Re: So, what does your NR handle name mean anyway?

That's cool. Here's a couple links about the origin of mine:

There's alot more images to gather...doing a

an image search of "Sedna" bring up many

great Inuit carvings and other media which are fascinating.

More to do there. Links at the bottom of the first one

here have much more about the mythology. I find the

confluence of a planetary body and a goddess of the sea

to be evocative of some mystic force combining ancient/modern/techno/shamanstuff

an' all those gooey goodies!

"Hail Great Sedna

Old Food Basket of the Deep, bountiful and fierce

She Who is the powerful bringer of food and storms

She Who commands Seal, Walrus, Whales and Polar Bear

Sedna of the Northern Deep, Mother of the Sea's creatures

Creatrix Who sustains the Inuit

She Who swims in the Icy Ocean

She Who is Guardian of All who honor Her

Sedna, strong abundant Hag of the Sea."

What a delightful picture of "the dearest, freshest, deep down things" (Gerard Manley Hopkins quote).

Thanks, Pictus!

Well, someone asked me to post about Sedna and the Aurora Borealis myths. I found this:

spiralgoddess wrote:

The Northern Light fill the skies with Magic. Vast fields of Ice and Snow reflect the brilliant play of light that fills the northern

skies. The Aurora Borealis is a part of the natural and mystical world of the North. Sedna below, the Aurora above.

Some native Legends tell of the Goddesses and Gods whose bodies are the magnificent Aurora. There are also many Legends of the

southern Aurora told by Maori and other southern people. The two great Auroras have inspired similar beliefs at opposite ends of the

Earth. The human spirit seems to have a deep inner knowing that transcends place and time. We share a knowing that connects us

all in our most deeply held sense of Awe.

In his music he combined 1950's rock influence with hippie and Tolkein references. He often used the word boogie in his lyrics and the word also describes the sound and rythm of his music. I chose Shoogie to give the same resonance but softer.

However, when I was researching the meaning of words and names one day, I discovered that 'shoogie' was an early gaelic word that meant to shake back and forth. So the name sort of suggests rythm and dance -which I love- as well as perhaps shaking someone back and forth to wake them up! tongue

That is too cool, Shoogie!  I have their Slider CD and always liked it but honestly had no idea about the band's history until now.  Nifty!

And I'm lovin' all your stuff too, SednaSphere!

Re: So, what does your NR handle name mean anyway?

Resono - to sound again.

Latin word, where resonance is derived from.

Meaning is also based on the Sol-fa music notes, Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti.

Re is second note.

So is fifth.

Seven is my number.

The no has a special twist to the fact that I'm deaf.

Never bend you head. Indeed!

I stole it from a southpark episode. It was the only word spoken by a group of aliens. I suppose it can mean anything.

Re: So, what does your NR handle name mean anyway?

Pharos became the etymological origin of the word 'lighthouse' in Greek (????)

It is the name I discovered to recognize the energy of my Higher Self.

I had just said it one day, not knowing what it was... and discovered it's meaning through researching "The Pharos of Alexandria".. one of th seven ancient wonders of the world.

To be a "lightehouse" or "guide" falls very much into the person that I am... so the connection just sort of found itself.
