Topic: Vedic Mathematics - anyone know about this? Or Mayan math?
I am interested in mathematics and I'm intersted in alternative information on mathematics.
Can anyone refer me to where I should look to learn these things?

I have been studying vedic mathematics all weekend and it seems like it is just a way to do quick calculations. I don't see much spirit in there.
Good point! Probably we'll have to read the Vedas for spirit. But being able to do quick calculations sure would give my spirits a lift!
I've been curious about it for several months. Do you find it helpful in saving time?
sure
also, I see that their are tricks in vedic math that no one I know has heard of and I hang out with computer programmers and people who you would think would have heard of the tricks.
one is that any number that ends with a 5 can be squared really quickly
(25)^2 = 2*3 concatenate 25 = 625
(35)^2 = 3*4 concatenate 25 = 1225
make sense? if not I can try to explain it better.
cheers,
alex
Hmm, how does that work?
you mean, what is the proof?
if that is what you mean, then I don't know but I'm trying to figure that out and when I do, i will post back.
I mean, how does one do this? How does one use it?
I'm not sure if I understand your question but I will try to answer it and if I haven't answered it then let me know ![]()
I think someone would use it if they needed to square a number that ended in a 5.
I guess it would depend on what you tend to do with your time, but if you do anything that is math oriented then you would often run into situations where you might need to square a number ending in 5, like what is the square of 445?
I guess also, it is just interesting that there is a pattern like this.
Hello all
My first post:) Don,t know if this is what you are looking for but here is a nifty website with Vedic math philosophy

Wow thats some awesome stuff, thanks alot for the link.
If you like math and sacred geometry in nature you would LOVE Drunvalo Melchizedeks book The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life and also Dr. Carl Johan Callemans The Mayan Calendar.
Here is Ian Xel Lungold giving a presentation explaining the science and mathematics of of Dr. Callemans book so its easy to understand ( though the book itself is MUCHO scientific, hard to read if you dont already have a very mathematical and scientific mind. Im far far right brained and have al the sympoms of it: hate authority, love expression and art, play drums, guided by my emotions, let alone im a scorpio with a pisces moon and capricorn rising, and one hell of an loveable opinionated ass, and I ALWAYS sucked at math but got straight As in art and literature)

There is a series of youtube videos of Drunvalo Melchizedek presentation on sacred geometry and the Flower of Life relation to it. Lots of info here. There are ten parts to this video, but if you go to google video can watch the whole second part of the seminar in one video, about an hour or so.
