Topic: Need Feedback (ie - Need help)
Disclaimer: I'm just going to dump everything about my situation that I pretty much never let anyone see the full scope of. Actually, I've never let anyone see the full scope of this. So I'm just going to be unflatteringly honest in the hope that when you read this, you understand that I take the risk of being honest in the hope that it doesn't alienate me from all of you here. if you really don't want to know all the negative stuff from someone else's life, then hit hte back button your browser now and don't read ahead.
Here's my situation:
25 years old
10 years nicoteen addict (actively fighting)
5 years of occasional alcohol use (2 months of increased use, though that's like more than once every 2 weeks, not that bad!)
3 incidents of psylisiban (sp?) mushroom use
1 incident of PCP overdose from what was supposed to be more shrooms (stopped all psychadelics after that)
4 years of occasional marjuana use (1 year of regular use: know I need to stop)
I spent the majority of free time in my youth playing video games, sometimes roll-playing, and often watching televeision because, frankly, the real world was school and pain with little to no incentive to take an active role in anything outside of my personal hobbies) eventually, internet surfing/chatting came in.
at about.. 21? I lost interst in video games, and even earlier than that I lost interest in television for the most part (though I have been watching some newer shows, just to break the monotiny) and spent more time online than anything else.
that same year was the accidental PCP overdose: first time arrested, though not convicted of anything (i busted up my dorm room windows/monitors/tvs, didn't hurt anyway)
at the same time as I lost interest in tv/games, I started learning more about alternative knowledges of all sorts, from political to spiritual. Such things are now just about the only things that can catch my interest for long periods of time.
I finished my undergrad in spring of 04 and haven't been doing much since (finding part time jobs to survive on, living with my mother.. yeah)
so.. through all of this, I always felt at least generally healthy. Health improved considerably the first 3 years of college.
Now I find myself at a point in my life.. where I have very little interest in much of anything. I fight pretty much a constant battle with suicidal depression, though that stopped about 3-4 days ago, all of the sudden.
that is to say, I feel jaded. worse than that, I can't seem to imagine a future for myself anymore. At one point I wanted to be a naturopathic doctor.. and now that's devolved into what do I do to survive. I have two options right now.. Grad school and hope that further education will get me back into the swing of things and out in the world again. Or community college for nursing, which is almost purely a financial decision - I do like to help people, but I find that hospital atmospheres both stifling and draining. however.. having an occupation that can be picked up and taken pretty much anywhere in the world is the idea.
what I need to know is this: What the hell do I do now?
i can't even get myself to be interested in finding a mate anymore (which took up a lot of my mind for about 10 years). that is to say, it'd be an interesting chance for growth and change wether positive or negative, but i can't be bothered to even try to be attractive anymore.
I don't even seem to have noticed a significant change in my perceptions, but yet at the same time, I seem to have lost all interest in living.
yet, I don't want to die. Not really. if i did I think I wouldn't have suceeded in staving off suicide for so long.
Therapy has never been helpful. If anything it's been more depressing to see what therpay ends up being- an ego game between two people with different rules than everday interaction. Honestly, I usually end up completely controlling my therapist in terms of perception managment to the extent that I can't get anything out of it. Not intentionally mind you, but the aditudes and mindless intelectualizing of therapists honestly doesn't make me feel the need to be open and honest, quite the contrary, it makes me feel used.
I used to love all sorts of things that I now simply cannot bring myself to care about.
While I'm sure that being addicted to technology is part of the problem (tv, games, internet.. it's all the same really), the underlying problem simply isn't. I spent a great deal of time in the past few years NOT interacting with such things on a regular basis. Internet adddiction is starting to go away too. I only go online now to talk to certain people and check certain things, then I go do something else.
I've tried shamans (and have been helped in some cases, but it never really got to the core problem, or helped with anything long term) energy workers (same more or less), a cyropractor for shits and giggles. I've been forced into trying psychotropic mood stabalizers, etc.. which made me feel lightheaded and weak, which frankly is not a good condition to be in the world today at any time.
lately, the walls seem to be closing in around me. I feel a lack of options from being broke and having a useless BA in liberal arts (but lots of bills for said education!), having very little job experience from part time jobs, both during and after college.
It feels like I need a miracle now for my life to ever get out of this mess, as every avenue for helping myself that I try leads me back here to this experience of emptiness.
Energy workers/healers seem to be the only kinds of people who can even get a grasp at my issues, and sometimes help.
So I'm loading all these details here, with the hopes that some of the brilliant people here might have some insight into what the hell I can do to prevent myself from becoming a mindless automiton, which I see as being a very realisitc future if I can't find something to break the emptiness in my life. Honestly, things work best for me when I do act like that, and I hate myself for being an automiton, so that's just not healthy.
I find myself experiencing chronic pain of all kinds, a general malaise, there's a knot in the middle of my back that seems unfixable at the moment. My stomach is pretty much constantly feeling off, and I had about 6 months of daily diareha, with nothing to show for it in terms of infection or perminant imparement of function, though that finally ended recently as well.
Where am I going wrong? Drugs were a bad idea, I understand that now. It's sad that marajuana is about the only thing that makes me feel somewhat 'good' though I use that term loosely, as the mental imparement does bother me. i've given it up for periods of time, with very little change in my expereince of the things mentioned above. I feel with certainty that it's a buffer, not the cause of these problems based on experimentation.
But where does that leave me? I used to have hopes and dreams. And then I learned of what a mess the rest of the world is in thanks to college and personal investigation. Lots of those dreams seemed frivelous and unrealistic after that. The few that I gathered after that little re-evaluation have all evaporated in less that a month after finding each one.
If there's any hope for me, any at all, that anyone of you who reads this can see, please, please give me some feedback. I feel lost in such a way that if no one can help me but myself, then I am already doomed, as myself has proven unreliabe at best.
