Also the vegan diet seems to require far too much work and thinking for me , I don't want to spend all day thinking hmmm what am I going to eat, I just what something to quite my stomach.

The only reason we tend not to as guilty eating vegetables is because we cannot hear their cry.
I believe plants are sentient, feeling beings. I'm certainly not perfect about it, but I try to maintain reverence for all food I eat and the fact that it was a sacrafice, whether plant or animal. I think it is superior to eat food that was humanely and thoughtfully raised, whether plant or animal.
I tried veganism and showed clear signs of malnutrition. I was sick, my fingernails malformed, and my hair started to fall out. It's not for everybody. But I applaud anyone who does so if it is right for them. I agree there are environmental benefits -- that's why I tried it.
I remember being a kid, and being real healthy physically. I always went and played outside, drank lots and ate at least 3 times a day.
Hmmmmmm...... *raises eye brows*
There are logical arguments for and against veganism, both nutritional and environmental, but I won't go into them. Basically I think you should always listen to your body's innate wisdom rather than your rational mind when it comes to choosing what to eat - your body knows what you need (and I don't mean persistent/habitual cravings, which are truly addictions). I used to believe that you could rationalise when it came to diets, based on nutritional values, etc, but now I've read about people who claim to be "breatharians", and not have to eat at all...so who knows what we really need to sustain us? I guess it's a very personal, individual matter, and depends on all sorts of factors. Perhaps I should add that I am drawn to a vegan or near-vegan diet. I just eat meat occasionally, as and when I feel I need it.
I like to take corn flour, mix in egg and water, put in some chopped up garlic, and fry that flat on a pan heated hot with olive oil. And salt. Then put on it yogurt and nutritional yeast. Maybe wrap it up in some good lettuce, and put some falafel that I got very cheap at the middle eastern store. Falafel sure is good, just add water and fry it!

hey! everyone...
Nice!! well, even i doubted meat for like ionno when i was to move out to U.S back in 2003 I set myself a goal to stay away from meat but ended up eating the most meat i have ever imagined in U.S from burger's to steaks and waht not...now when i had my spiritual awakening of recognizing things and seeing things thru the eyes of experience and observation I found out that indeed meat was making me fat and lazy and then I even read on some website that meat carries proteins which is ofcourse they do but most of this animals are given injections and what not that goes into their system and when we eat meat these very chemicals become part of our bodily meat. I accept the fact that meat tasted real good but as far now I have been staying away from it. Its been almost 6 months for me where I haven't touched meat at all wether be it fish or a prawn. No Meat!! and indeed it has helped me reduce a hell lot of weight and am more grounded and becoming spiritual.
Most of the teachings really say about not eating meat when you go on the way of spirituality. Cuz the matter of the fact is these animals are farm breeded like in India you will find like 50 chickens in small box cage where 20 would be more than enough and they can't even breath properly and then they are cut and consumed by us. very inhuman. Like they say oh!! the great prophets and all them ate meat...they ate meat cuz they lived in deserts where they had to rely on it and infact they grew them like their pets with love and only cut them when they became old with an intent to pass them on to new life of peace in the name of GOD.
Meat is also not considered good when you are awakening your kundalini. Because it makes you very in human and creates bodily and worldy desires. To have a pure life one must stay away from meat as long as he can achieve his spiritual goal and once he does that I don't think it really matters that he is not eating meat.
I personally have a very big problem here in India for the past 6 to 7 months that i haven't been eating meat its like what do i eat...and i end up eating rice only twice a day and that too very low in quantity. And sometimes I go to this functions and family parties where am bombarded with psychic attacks where i can feel it all inside my body or see my heart vibrating like a friggin vibrator and I don't get it why do i need to fall off for their lies and deception and I hold on strong. And what I learnt from my personal experience is everytime I ate meat or drank a lot of water it acted like a conductor for these attacks and they were sevior and when i abstracted from water and food everytime i was in a group gathering it had very less effect on me but the family and all them ppl won't let go they will keep on imprinting on my mind drinking water saying..oh am soo thirsty ...oh am soo hungry and the matrix telling my brain thru my nose oh that smells awsome go have it...and I hold myself but then I ask why oh why was I born into a bondage like this...sometimes I feel like we don't even need to eat its probly they have made us soo dependant on it that we eat and eat and eat....but thats something am really thinking about for the past few months...
......but most of this animals are given injections and what not that goes into their system and when we eat meat these very chemicals become part of our bodily meat.................these animals are farm breeded like in India you will find like 50 chickens in small box cage where 20 would be more than enough and they can't even breath properly and then they are cut and consumed by us. very inhuman.
Not trying to plead the case of eating meat - for myself, I'm back to cutting out as much meat as possible from my diet - but there are farms here in the US that raise meat humanely. What you're describing here is not the case for all meat across the board in the U.S. Maybe in India, however in the U.S. there are free range farms where the chickens, turkeys, pigs and cows are not kept in cages or crammed/chained down inhumanely in pens, and are fed a proper diet, not cruddy food...or worse, the remains of their fellow animal captives. These same farms also don't partake in hormone and chemical injections. It's pricier.........you may pay up to several dollars more per pound for free range, hormone and chemical free meat (and milk and eggs)...........but it does exist. Whole Foods or any of the natural markets nationwide in America that specialize in this sort of food carry these high quality meats. That's where we buy our meat from. Back in Fort Lauderdale (Florida) several years ago, Tom was talking to one of the butchers at the Whole Foods there and the guy was saying that all the butchers from that Whole Foods actually got to go visit the Bell & Evans poultry farm to see the facilities for themselves, verify whether all their claims are in fact true. And apparently they are. Free range free roaming chickens, fed grain diets, clean facilities, humanely killed.
Again, I do understand the desire to not eat animals and the argument that animals shouldn't be raised for our food on corporate farms, period, no matter how good the conditions are. And I agree, which is why I'm back to being as vegetarian as possible. (in fact I had started a good thread about all of this awhile back: http://forum.noblerealms.org/viewtopic.php?id=371 ) But I just wanted to point out the fact that there are free range/hormone free farms out there for those who do still choose to eat meat. You have options........
Lyra, I agree about U.S they really have strict rules and have the best products out their when it comes to customer service. But yeah thats the case in India where I live now...but I was just thinking that all the carnivorus animals show a lot of cold blooded behaviour which is ofcourse it is for their survival instinct to eat and survive but then again we are also social animals we think and define our personalities and I believe what we consume and how we look ourelves in our own minds effects on a whole. I am not syaing we become like cold blooded creatures but still when we can survive on vegetables and if we even desire to have meat we could once in a while but ..I feel vegetative diet really helps your body with lot of anti-oxidants and keeps your aura clean with fresh veggies and fruits where as meat I don't know what kind of effect it could possibly have on ones spiritual path but somethig tells me it doesn't do good.
Because at home here my family and peers always push me to eat meat and I know there has to be something that is present in meat that slows down one's spiritual evolution. Now even if they cook at home like they would make something meat in it and even if i end up eating gravy its just like eating all the proteins after they have been cooked. But yeh what I know is I ate meat every day and i ate a lot of meat when wasn't a vegetarian and I wasn't spiritual but as i started getting close to God and started practicing yoga and meitation it just happened naturaly that my body doesn't want meat in its diet at all...

This is random, but the word corn flour made me hungry. Ever had polenta? Corn meal with water and salt, butter maybe some cream. MMM. My mom makes polenta (also called Kachamak in the Balkans) and puts toppings in it. She either puts mozzerella or feta cheese and some sausage (dried, spicy, cut up sausage works best!) and there! A really filling yet simple meal, my God haha. Not very vegetarian but again, oh so good!
