Mindfulness meditation is like meditation 101. That's what everyone starts out with. It is useful for beginners who have trouble calming their minds.
I don't know why you want to meditate, but I meditate to free myself from own ego and get in touch with my inner spirit. The idea is to dissociate with it by stopping the flow of energy to your mind. You are right about not forcing your mind to silence the noice, because if you do that you are adding more energy to the mind. You observe your conscience mind without judgment and watch for any feelings and sensations in your entire body.
But if you only want "Christian" technique and everything else is off limit, Christians meditation has two types - meditation and contemplation. Meditation for Christians is about picking a Bible verse like something from psalm and cite it over and over. Contemplation is about projecting your mind onto something like Yahweh or Jesus and listen to the Holy Spirit. Eastern style "quietitude" like what most people talked about in this forum is officially a heresy. But let's suppose you don't have an obsession for obedience for now.....
But the most important thing you must realize is that meditation is not actually about sitting in a quiet spot with your eyes closed. Eventually meditation is what you must do at all times. You will be in a constant state of awareness and a state of no-mind even when you are doing things like working, exercising, or having a conversation with someone. You use your mind only when the situation demands it, but you must return to a state of awareness after you are finished using your mind.
It is really difficult to do. So everyone starts out sitting in a quiet spot with eyes close to build up your mental muscle. One thing I find useful is that I make the habit of meditation first thing in the morning. That way you "lock in" your awareness for a long time. I usually lose it by the time I get to work, but sometimes it lasts longer.
The last time I was able to be in a meditative state of no mind for a the whole day, everything becomes vibrant. Almost everything I saw became alive, especially living things. It was a wonderful experience. But I got exhausted at the end of the day and was actually sick for the next few days due to a cold.
But I hope this helps.
John 10:34
Jesus answered, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, you are gods'?
