Topic: Old cell-phone projects.

I have an old Ericsson KH668  with extra attachable battery and a charger, plus an old Motorola TSR Wireless beeper. I've been to one of the links which suggests using an old Motorola cell phone for projects, but what projects can I do with these items?If there is nothing I can do with them I will donate them to charity. But I really want to take them apart.

i too have a few old cell phones that could possibly be used for experiment.

you can alter it's freq. so people cant use their own cellphones to send or get stuff like calls and text messages

Do any of you know the basics of how a cellphone, the towers, etc. work? What else could you do with it besides the previously mentioned things? Perhaps there's a site that gives a good overview. What are the legal issues involved in tinkering with cell phones, why, and how does this dovetail with monitoring, wave effects, and so forth?

I don't think there's a whole lot you can do as far as hacking the cellphones or networks, legally or otherwise.  If you're interested in this kind of tinkering, you might want to look into getting an amateur radio license.  It's an incredibly rewarding hobby with many different facets.

That's a good idea, thanks! I was just thinking perhaps by taking it apart it would help me understand how it works, and some diagrams that illustrate it would help too.
