I see the situation no different to how we control cows and other farm animals for our own purpose. They sit in paddocks, with fences, and sometimes we rely on dogs to round them up. Pretty backward if you think about it. We have the technology to monitor every single one of them, and if need be, we could easily farm them individually in a cage, using robots and automation to feed/excercise/do whatever needs to be done with them. But we don't.

Why?

Because there is no need to. It works fine the way it is now, without the high-tech gadgets that could be used. They are in our control, and if it aint broke, no need to fix it.

actually, we do farm cows like that ...   your conceptions of agribusiness are based on nostalgic representations in media and no longer reflect the factory farming of modern agribusiness ...

also, you analogy is oversimplified and not applicable ... cows never question their reality and are willing to breed in captivity ... human beings are not so easily inclined and thus illusions about the cohesiveness of the structure of the world need to be maintained ...  this 'suspension of disbelief' accepting this structure is the foundation of the entire matrix, without which it would cease existing ...  even the stone age represents advanced technology, it is only in the past two centuries that the matrix has been hijacked in order to change it into something new ...  to sustain greater population levels, new 'technology' needed to be introduced in order to sustain the necessary infrastructure illusions of a larger multi-billion population ...  you are still believing in the illusion of physical existence, it is only an illusion and in reality nothing is solid or not moving ...
