Topic: Cloned meat for human food...
Done a search on this subject on the forums, and didn't come up with anything.
Well apparently cloned cattle etc, has tentatively been given the "okay" by the US to be used as food for human consumption. Interestingly as far as I can tell, once the food is on the shelves, it doesn't have to be labeled as cloned meat - and will essentially be indistinguishable from normal meat.
!There are so many implications to this it is unreal. But the main question on my mind is "why?" I don't see any benefit in using cloned animals as food. They don't grow faster, they still have to be carried to full term by a female, I don’t know if there are actually and differences. Are these animals going to be altered in someway or another? Supposedly there is no health risk in eating the meat - I find that hard to believe. And even if it is true - then why not label the meat as cloned?
All very strange. I admit I haven't been following much news for months - so didn't even have a clue that cloned meat was even a consideration.
I wonder what the EU's take will be on cloned meat? No doubt they will also "okay" it.
