hey blue, im up with ya, and i get so excited.  i read today that we (the "celestially challenged"--sorta cute) may be those of the "twice born", meaning that its an end-product of living thru the struggle towards self-hood, as in thru the experience (ie pain) and BECAUSE of it, and yet the joys, and thru the inevitable dilemmas, conflicting demands, and shifting alliances (william james), we emerge ever the wiser, no longer divided.   becoming an atman--an AT MAN.

atman (atta) : this is the 'real self', the soul of a person. Inside everyone is a 'spark' of the divine (Brahma); it is this spark that is able to reincarnate after death and provides each life with identity. It is through the atman that all things are connected, leading to the doctrine of ahinsa (or non-injury) and universal love and divinity.

Interesting. Still...

It must be said that on the face of it Self-Mastery is a notion that seems to appeal to the Ego primarily: other teachings say there is no abiding, permanent Self to master so such a course if taken is in fact the pursuit of control over a quitessential illusion.

Doesn't one have to give up such desires for control over illusory things to achieve authentic enlightenment? I think it better to forget Self and "carry your Cross" so to speak, as Jesus said: I believe that in Cosmic terms everything is Pre-Determined and only our choices are the variables to each Event or equation.

The key is to surrender the notion that one is a doer or maker of things, an autonomous agent acting in time. Then true mastery through unfettered Freewill is attained. Then it is realized that reformation is all we are capable of, though a valuable insight and a gift this is.

But perhaps this might be considered a digression from the sentiment of the OP. I am unsure...:/

well, see godlike, thats just what i was thinking.  when i wrote that.  i think thats exactly the problem tho, the notion of the SPLIT.   that there even is an EGO.  or an ID, or a SUPEREGO.  i think thats a meme.  that freud came up with.  just a thot construct to explain human behavior.  there is is no split, in all actuality, and i agree, in a way, there is therefore then, nothing to master, so to speak, only so to speak.  i knew someone would say this, that it appeals to the ego.  i believe/think there is a BIG SELF, which is a compilation of many selves, and oversoul.  i think the self is the biggest most real thing we have.  the biggest and best thing, not an illusory self, but all components of self (now there i go, splitting it, but not intentionally), and not to surrender to anything.  no need to surrender, thats what they would like.  more surrendering.  i read the other day, (wish i could save these snippets of info i see, rather than to save a whole pg or article, need only a snippet of it, darn--where did i see that and jive with it?  oh woe is me) that indeed, if ppl would see themselves as the great individuals they are, of a group of humans, in or out or whatever with time (im not saying that like i intend) then there would be so much more use of individual power and self love.  there can be no bringing in a new world without self-love and the "power of I"--thats  what im getting at.  to be whole, and intend, to love self and every thing about it.  i think we ARE makers and doers of things, and that is where real freewill comes in.  to see, and do, and think, and feel.  and BE, and thats not illusory, its necessary if were gonna get out of here, and lead the way.

its my goal to have ppl see how important it is to CLAIM themselves, to break from old memes, and to LOVE the damn shit of themselves, so they can more freely and logically love others in a humanistic, we come from the same origins, type of way.  without love of self and knowing who one is an individual, (and thats where the mastery concept comes in) i dont see how we can project betterment to others, or to the universe, which needs us to upgrade, and well frankly, get over these memes and projections. so that there is REAL LOVE and real acknowledgement to be change agents.  so many ppl r struggling with decision-making, allegiances, alliances.  this clogs up the route to change, to a new world.  we cant drag old ideas with us, and the thots of self-love and   the power of it, keep resonating.  i cant love others unless i love myself, which i do, and i trust in that.  thats what im trying to do, to get more ppl on that wagon (another agenda of mine--i admit it) in order to present the picture that we. as individuals, only have ourselves in this whole matter, and in having a love for self, and being all one can be, and using the POWER of that, all else clears up, from within, one person at a time.  gaining faith/trust/enlightenment in/for humanity, one person at a time.
