Hmm... like Soloflicks said, why not grow their own parts? For some reason they have to use "natural" material, but then why only one eye and not things like bone marrow (stem cells) and liver (only organ that can regenerate)? Weird idea; maybe it's not for genetic material. Is it possible that somewhere there's a species that reacts to certain Earth mammal tissue like we react to cocaine or heroin? In other words, these are drug dealers harvesting their crop.

We with our low technology through genetic manipulation
can make bacteria synthesize stuff like plastic, human growth hormone,
insulin and the list goes on...
More advanced civilization can do wonders we can not.

Like I said, a weird idea. Maybe the method of harvesting, involving terror and pain, is necessary for the potency of the "drug". Why so few harvests? Supply and demand; small supply means high prices. Psst... got primo Earth cow rectum, only 1000 galactic credits a bag. smile

[Off topic: Apology to Lyra: That came from a bottle of tequila--really sorry--i'm an alcoholic and try to stay away from it--apparently tore into a number of people while drunk that night. (Also i can't spell when drunk.) I think i was wounded by some sarcasm in your response to my first post here--as I tend to be sarcastic too this was not called for--not called for in any event. If it's any consolation, I had the mother of all hangovers. I do try to be a decent person. Not always succeeding, obviously.
