Topic: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

Like Lyra mentioned in the Jupiter retrograde thread,  I never used to "believe" in Mercury retrograde. Even though I'm an astrologer type, I try to keep an open  mind about the different planetary trends and sense the energies for myself to see if they truly have an impact that is noticeable.  I don't automatically place my faith in the work of past astrologers; I prefer to test things out for myself through intensive study, journalling, etc.

Years before I became heavily involved with astrology, I'd heard about Mercury retrograde and wondered what it was. Then I picked up my first layman's guide to planetary cycles - the yearly Llewellyn daily planet guide - and started tracking the moon phases and Mercury retrogrades for myself.  I noticed amazing synchronicities as I looked back in old journals and took note of what was going on.

Mercury retrograde times are weird. I still don't know WHY they should affect us, but they do.  Mercury doesn't actually move backwards in the sky. It's just that short-term differences in orbital speed (Earth vs. Mercury's) make it APPEAR from our vantage point that Mercury is moving backwards.  This happens about three times a year for about three and a half weeks at a time.

And for some reason, this gravitational (or perceptual) bizarreness has a huge effect on things here.

You'll notice during Mercury retrograde that there will be a bunch of plane crashes.  This one is trackable, like clockwork.  While there will still be occasional plane crashes that DON'T happen during  Mercury retrograde (like that weird one recently where a Yankees player crashed a small plane into a building in New York City,) during Mercury retrograde there tend to be "pile-ups" of transportation-related tragedies or problems.  So there was that plane crash in Nigeria right after Mercury went into retrograde, and then shortly after that a plane clipped the wings of another plane while circling the runway at Newark airport. Maybe there have been more, but those are the ones I paid attention to recently. But there will usually be clusters of plane problems. Sometimes train problems, too, like commuter trains getting derailed.

If you look over an entire year and jot down the times when you notice more road repairs being done , with the related traffic backups and delays, Mercury retrograde times always have more of these things going on.  Sure enough, bridge work started here locally right after retrograde began, and another major highway I travel daily is having all manner of weirdness - lane shut downs, entire highway shutdowns, etc.  Nothing EVER happens around here with traffic because we're in a rural area, yet when something DOES it's always during retrograde.

Other weird events also tend to cluster during these times.  I never asked the engineers at Princeton University's Engineering Anomalies lab about this, they're the guys who monitor those random number generator devices that behave in anomalous ways around times when BIG STUFF is happening that rocks global consciousness (Princess Diana's death, 9/11, etc.)....but I wonder if the random number generators have been noticed to behave oddly during Mercury retrograde periods. It wouldn't surprise me if they did.  (I visited their lab many years ago - it was cool.)

Because if you were to try to sum up in once brief description what the heck is happening during retrogrades, I'd have to say that ANOMALOUS STUFF OCCURS.  Things that are unusual, that usually create delays, backups, complications, or detours.  And it's noticeable everywhere, if you are attuned to anomalous stuff in your life.  If you're not good with recognizing subtle patterns of weirdness, you might not observe these goings on, but if you keep your eyes and mind open, you'll almost always see a cluster of weird or unusual things going on in your own life and your own  neighborhood during retrograde.

Here are my Mercury retrograde observations so far, things that have impacted me or people in my immediate sphere of influence:

1) Some poor animal got trapped down the heating duct in my honey's new barn office; we can't get him out, even with drills and tin clips and everything. Dont' know if it's a squirrel or a bird or a bat. Animals showing up or getting stuck in weird places is a classic retrograde thing.

2) A friend lost his keys and couldn't find them or the spare on a very busy day when he needed to use his truck right away. Misplacing small items is classic retrograde in action.

3) I temporarily lost MY keys last night when I needed to head out, and I never lose my keys; in fact, I'd been thinking about retrograde and how I needed to make sure I was especially careful NOT to place my keys any place weird. It's funny, I was in those moments of not being able to find my car keys, and I started to get frustrated, and then I said to myself, "Poop! It's Mercury retrograde!" and then I composed myself and said, "Damned retrograde isn't going to get me! I'm shifting my consciousness OUT of being affected by it!" And I immediately found my keys, hiding in plain sight.  Weird!

4) I've gotten lost twice while driving around places and roads I regularly travel. Had one of those things where it's dark out and suddenly the roads seem completely unfamiliar to you and you lose all sense of spatial orientation; another time I just plain got lost.  Differences in the Earth's magnetic field will often cause machinery to malfunction, and it seems to mess with people's natural navigational sense, too.  The only times I end up having to turn around and backtrack because I've driven somewhere I didn't mean to go are during retrograde periods, no matter how much I try to avoid being affected!

5) Email interference - an editor contacted me for a rates quote, I sent one back to her. I didn't hear back for a day and something told me that I'd better get in touch with her to make sure she'd received it. She had received it and had sent me an email back, which my server at GoDaddy just magically - ATE.  Her second email back to me just never showed up here.  Communications snafus and midirections - more classic retrograde stuff. And often it will be IMPORTANT communications. Inevitably, it's communications that involve major stuff like money and deal-making or employment offers  that get "eaten" or disappear into the void during retrograde. While, ironically, every freakin' stupid chain letter that your friends of friends of friends have decided to forward to everybody on their list arrives in your "in" box like clockwork. smile

If any other forum members are noticing anomalous stuff going on in your lives, feel free to share your retrograde adventures here. As far as I've been able to map out over the years, these anomalies will usually involve events falling into these categories:

1) Physical klutziness or clumsiness, leading to cuts or accidents or damage if you're not careful;

2) Weird events involving animals showing up in bizarre situations or weird places;

3) Communications problems - voice mail, phone calls, email, letters/bills/etc.

4) Missed connections - more people cancelling appointments or not showing up for appointments than usual; or you just can't get together with someone because something comes up;

5) Road problems - commuter delays that are insanely long; road work that suddenly is happening; getting disoriented, lost or distracted while on the road;

6) Losing or misplacing familiar items like cell phones, keys, purse, wallet, etc.

7) Mechanical malfunctions - computer viruses set in, printer suddenly doesn't work, cell phone battery goes dead, car doesn't start.

8) Celebrity deaths - there are usually a cluster of these, too. Sometimes that famous 80 or 90 year old who seems to have been hanging on forever chooses to exit during retrograde; but there will usually be several significant famous folks checking out during retrograde times.

This particular retrograde period started October 28th in the wee hours of the morning and ends on Friday, November 17th at 7:25 pm Eastern Time.

Well, how's this for you.........The entire incident recorded in this thread started after Mercury went retrograde on October 28th:

http://forum.noblerealms.org/viewtopic.php?id=4205

As noted in the thread, the "plan" was apparently already in the works for some time, but it all went down during retrograde.    Coincidence?   I don't know...makes me wonder.

For item #3 on your list, I'd expand it to include the idea of misunderstandings within communication.  People hearing another person wrong, totally misunderstanding what was written or said.  More instances of arguing and fighting than usual.

For item #5, as you noted in the Jupiter/Mercury thread....road rage!!   Seems there's a higher propensity for road rage and car accidents.  So be careful when driving.

As noted in the Jupiter/Mercury thread, earlier this year I found myself being tailgated by a psycho bully in a Mack truck who wanted to go 80 in a 50 zone.....and it all occurred 45 minutes after Mercury went retrograde.   He kept lurching forward to come right up to my bumper, trying to scare me, then would pull back, then lurch forward, then pull back.   He was being a total nut.

Last year when I worked at the hotel mentioned in the above referenced thread, all hell broke loose at the hotel during one particular Mercury retrograde period.  I mean, the DAY that Mercury went into retrograde and for the next three weeks straight until it ended, it was nonstop mishaps, accidents, things breaking, reservation problems, guest complaints, you name it, it happened.   The jacuzzi flooded down through the ceiling, pouring into the lobby;  a toddler stepped on one of those large, heavy duty staples that for WHATEVER reason was next to the pool....had to be brought to urgent care with a bleeding foot.   Reservations went missing or were booked incorrectly, it was just like everything went wrong.  Even the bellhop was laughing and shaking his head about it all at one point, like "WTH??"  I kept telling everybody, "Mercury retrograde!" but, they didn't want to hear it.   But for me, that particular retrograde period is what made a believer out of a skeptic.  wink

Re: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

I've seen this too.  For me, Mercury Retrograde shows itself mainly by computer problems.  Last year during one retrograde period, my comptuter crashed completely.   Then my cell phone crashed as well.  Finally, I went into the main office where I work to borrow a computer.  Guess what crashed to the point the IT guy couldn't figure out, and promptly resumed working after I left?!

I've also had that directional problem  you speak of, too, where I space out and miss my exits, go the wrong way on streets I've known all my life, etc.  Just today I met a friend for lunch, and she was late because she got lost on the way to a place we frequent.  Just plain strange.  I had actually forgotten about Mercury Retrograde until I saw this thread!

Jennifer, have you noticed a higher incicence of Mercury Retrograde affecting people who have a lot of Mercury in their charts, as opposed to others who don't?

Re: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

The Friday right before Mercury turned on Saturday night was a gorgeous day here... sunny, cool and breezy. So breezy the roof got ripped off of a convenience store. NO STORM, mind you. AND a tree across the street from us just decided to uproot itself and fall right on top of the neighbor's cars.

THEN I went to work Sunday morning and saw that one of the ladies has shown up for work with black clown paint covering her entire face. Her attitude all morning made it clear she was extremely put out to be expected to work... so she actually spent most of the am leaning against the table.  She quit Thursday morning over a paycheck dispute.  She changed her mind and wanted her job back later that day, but she had already been replaced.

Also on Sunday morning, two other crew members inexplicably squared off as if they were going to fight.   Hubby passed a scene where a car had rolled 4 or 5 times in a ditch, and another where 2 people had been pulled over and were going to jail.

Again, very early Sunday morning, I witnessed a guy curb his little car, blow out both tires on the driver's side, miss the grocery store driveway completely, drive up the curb, over grass, then back down the curb, look at the damage, and try again to drive away. He had to be smashed out of his mind. I didn't bother calling the cops, as I knew he wasn't going anywhere in that car.

Is also great and would suffice.  ~Robert Frost

Re: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

The 2000 election occurred at the very tail end of a Mercury retrograde.

The election on Tuesday occurs in the middle of one.

In addition to snafus, Mercury retrogrades give opportunity to go back and undo or repair something that was done.. maybe during a prior Mercury retrograde.

US citizens have an opportunity to undo the retrograde of 2000.

Re: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

Okay, so during this particular mercury retrograde period I've heard of several coworkers here at my temp job who've experienced all kinds of mayhem.   The girl who sits next to me has been trying - unsuccessfully - to close on her and her husband's new house.  Four times in almost three weeks they've tried, and there's been nothing but problems and obstacles.  I told her....mercury retrograde!  You can't buy houses or do big things like move, or change jobs, or sign onto big contracts during retrograde.  wink   Won't work!

A guy in one of the other offices sent out this hilarious email to everybody in the company detailing his business trip from hell.  It was laugh out loud funny the way he wrote it, I really wish I could reprint it here because people would get a kick out of it.   But yeah, every single thing that could possibly go wrong went wrong, from the plane being delayed, to the rental car company not having his car, then having to hike for a mile to the other rental car company in a bad area at night, which he likened to a scene out of "Escape From New York," to the hotel mistakenly cancelling his reservation and a "surreal" conversation with the desk clerk, then getting a bad room overlooking the "pool", (that's what he called it, the "pool"...makes me wonder what was wrong with it!) to a drunken guy going for a swim at 3 a.m. and capped off with the hotel not having hot water the next morning.  !  Just on and on, total madness.  I wrote him back and told him....mercury retrograde!  big_smile   They always tell you not to travel during retrograde.  When I talked to him on the phone later he laughed and agreed and said he's a believer now.

Re: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

Try to post that email if you can, Lyra!  I love reading things like that, because I know it makes horrid experiences like what he went through almost worth it when you can have something to laugh about.

Re: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

Mercury goes retrograde about three times a year, so everyone has lived through many of them. And people have traveled, bought homes, signed conracts, had surgery, etc. successfully during them. What Mercury does is trigger some hiccups in the system -- most of the time the perturbances are of no consequence (like misplacing keys), other times they are classic  retrograde (like the business trip from hell).

On the one hand we have the Mercury retrograde election of 2000 turning into the debacle of the bush presidency.
And the next time election day falls under a Mercury retrograde (11/7/2006), there is huge voter backlash to 2000.

Usually the retrograde effects are annoyances taht eventually are resolved, like my experience buying my house -- they forgot to itemize the borough sewer bill, and then the borough forgot to bill me for 2 years. I was a new homeowner, and there is also a county sewer bill so I didn't know about the borough bill -- and was shocked to find out that they were about to put a lien on my house for the sewer bills plus interest. Since the borough was at fault they forgave the interest and all was well. That house closing also had these fun Mercury retrograde events: I sprained my ankle the night before closing at 2 am and didn't see the (thankfully small) roach infestation during my walk -- er-- limp through, they also forgot to itemize my homeowner's insurance... but that was 16 years ago and we still live in the place, happily.

Would I settle under another Mercury retrograde -- not willingly.
Did we survive it -- of course!

The most important thing to remember during a Mercury retrograde is to check, recheck and triple check details. Use patience and discretion. It will come back to haunt you... perhaps during another Mercury retrograde!

Re: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

Let's see, some more Mercury retrograde stuff:

A driver driving a horse trailer to Connecticut had an accident and the horse being driven needed a temporary place to stay - so Lucky Penny (suitable name!) is now staying here at the farm temporarily.  Mercury retrograde horse. Fortunately, driver and horse were fine, but the trailer was totalled.

Celebrity deaths - Ed Bradley and Jack Palance were some of the notables who have passed away during this period. I think there were a few others not as famous.

Road stuff.  One time last week I was out for a drive and there were four separate Mercury retrograde traffic thingies going on in a span of a quarter mile - accidents, repairs, lanes blocked, etc. And on the weekend I saw a driver drive his truck into a ditch and nearly flip over. Fortunately he was fine. I haven't witnessed any kind of accident in years - interesting that it happened during retrograde.

Oh, and I was almost hit by a soccer mom driving her kids home from school yesterday afternoon at breakneck speed. (Why is it always the soccer moms?)  Fortunately, I'd gotten a message from my guidance to go extra slow on that back road during that particularl drive, even though impatient drivers behind me didn't appreciate it very much (because I was actually going the speed limit - Gods forbid! smile  So I had plenty of time to avoid collision with the soccer mom and her terrified little girl, who was staring at me from the passenger seat.

Oh, caught a little food poisoning from some eggs benedict at a restaurant.  Note to self: dont' eat eggs benedict.  So Sunday/Monday I was out of it.

And my printer died - which can actually be blamed on Mercury retrograde cat. My kitten, Becka, likes to sleep under my desk lamp on my desk while I work in the afternoons, and for some reason she had a couple of spastic attacks and decided to knock my printer over. By the third time this happened, the printer was a goner.  (Note to self: kittens on desk - not good idea.)

Aw, how cute.  smile  Yeah, my cat LOVES the desk lamp thing!   I have a sweater that I'm no longer using bunched up on the side of the desk under the lamp for her, so she can have a cuddly "blanket" to lay on while she gets her artificial "sun."  big_smile

Oh yeah, and Jack Palance.....as noted in Ayahuasca's thread, who posted the Tim Boucher article and thread going on over at Godlike Productions, apparently the guy's already died, like, twelve times or something in other timelines that people somehow are able to remember.   haha  So his "glitch in the matrix" death, yet again, is DEFINITELY mercury retrograde in action!  big_smile

Re: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

Lono's thread about trying to close on her house during mercury retrograde reminded me that "IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR AGAIN! WEEEEE!"   big_smile  And so here's the latest experience I've witnessed:

Here at week the quarterly Board of Directors meeting is coming up in March.  Board books have to be put together for this meeting several weeks prior and then mailed out by a specific deadline - 7 days before - by law, requiring many people to get their stuff together and write their bits to be inserted into the book.  Making Board Books is a huge process, a responsibility that's luckily not part of my job, although I do have to help with document revisions and hole punching and all that.  So, Board Books happens to coincide with Mercury retrograde....for the second MR period in a row.  !   Probably even more beyond that, but back then I wasn't paying attention.   The last time it happened, the books didn't make it out by the deadline, for the first time ever in this company's history.  This time, the office is shortstaffed since this branch office is closing on April 30th and many people have already jumped ship as a result.  The Pennsylvania office is going to become the new HQ, and they've hired on a bunch of new people as a result over in PA, and techinically they should be the ones now taking over this responsibility since they're going to need to learn how to do it anyway.......yet the majorly puppet manager of this office who does not act real, AT all, chipperly declared that *this* office can do the board books this quarter, no problem at all!    (nevermind that they're understaffed.)  The books are due by this Friday, but of course we had off on Monday for President's Day, so that gives them four days to put it all together.  Not going to happen.  There's so much I could say about the manager woman who offered up this office to do it but I won't get into it all here.  Let's just say "empty drone" that can be used as a vector.  I think all offices strategically have one in place.  wink

Then in the middle of composing this there was an accidental fire drill.  haha   Yup.  So everybody in the building was congregated in the parking lot.

And from what I'm hearing it sounds as if one of the printers is conking out...and they've got a TON of stuff left to print.   It broke last time during MR, so, you know, why not go for two!

Anyway, I had totally forgotten by this weekend that it was MR then remembered again and was like, "!! ahhhHAAA!  Maybe THAT explains it!"

Re: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

Well, since I wrote that thread, we have been moving in and generally having an easy time of it.  However-- the most important aspect of any move for me is having my computer up and running and having internet access.  I didn't want to take too much time off from work, and remember I telecommute.  So, the cable guy comes yesterday (I wasn't there), with some excuse as to why he couldn't install an outlet in my office.  It will be Saturday before they can do this.  I found the longest ethernet cables in the world and proceeded to string them across the entire upstairs.  I plugged in my modem, and the smell of burning electronics hit my nostrils.  I had used the wrong AC adaptor and fried it.

That's just weird the stuff your company is trying to push through-- and you know they won't!  See, you can be all relaxed about it because it's not your problem.  Being a temp does have its advantages!

Re: My Mercury Retrograde Experiences - List Yours Too

Yesterday I couldn't get on the net at all for several hours. After fiddling with settings and such, I finally decided to turn off
the computer, then the circuit board switch, and turn it back on. It worked! But not before getting all torqued out about it.
That hardly ever happens, and since I've had some wierd interferences and a virus in the past, I was gettin' all bugged out.
Usually most of the the elements of the Merc Rets actually work in my favor, because I'm wierd like that. But this was a
classic computer Merc Ret effect which has happened a couple of other times as well.
