My #1 petpeeve: tailgaters.

I cannot count the number of times I 'brake checked' the cretin behind me.

That will either get 'em to back off, or the bell rings and it's "on".

I know that one well!  Another thing my dad taught me:  tap the brakes once as a warning.  If they continue to tailgate, sloooowwww doooowwwwnnn.  If they get the message, speed back up, but keep watching and be ready to slow down if they start up again.  What really irritates me about tailgaiting is that more often than not, it's large vehicles that think that they can intimidate me by looming in my mirror.  Not so.

I once worked with a woman who was proud of being a frequent tailgater.  When I told her my method, she got really mad, and swore she would slam into anyone who did that.  Funny, that's never even come close to happening, not once.  Again, folks are out to intimidate, not stick their necks out.

And to clarify-- I'm not a slow driver.  I'm no speed demon, but I keep a fast pace.

Re: Anger Management!

Hehe Lono, I actually should clarify my def of brakechecking.

It's a timing thing.

Get the offending vehicle about 3 carlengths back, speeding up if necessary, and at the right moment, using brake or emergency brake, LOCK em. But only for like half a second. Tire smoke sends a good signal usually, like I said, that move will separate the zombie tailgater from the prospective 'competitors'.

This method works even better on a motorcycle.

In NY the following vehicle is responsible for a rearend collision, so most people will get an abrupt reminder of where THEIR brake pedal is........

Re: Anger Management!

Just in case anyone would like some help with their anger, I have some ideas.

This necklace would help just about anyone with anger issues, and it's very suitable for women or men:

I know a woman who ordered this "radiant heart" necklace last Christmas and said it was one of the best presents she ever bought herself.    Her holidays are not as happy as she would like and she said getting this necklace was like finding a wonderful friend.   I would imagine any woman would really enjoy it, not to mention helping with any anger issues:

LOL

My favourite (and probably a bit more creative) is to make funny expressions from the number plates on the cars all around you.

eg - J75 FFT  -
FFT - Fat F***ng Turd
Frequently Farts Terribly
Fondles Fearsome Toenails

You get the idea... We have had some hysterical car journeys once we start this game.

Re: Anger Management!

I'm almost glad I have no vehicle to drive. One time on my motorcycle (Honda CBR-600, speed demon) I was on the highway catching up to the traffic in front of me, and this prick with a convertable (and on a cell phone) swerves out of the fast lane on the left-side into my lane on purpose, I had to lock my rear wheel at 65'ish, keep my bike from going completely sideways and keep the front wheel from smashing into his rear bumper.

That was the EASY part, the hard part was not kicking his face in with my steel-toe shoes when I rode past him (he didn't succeed in keeping me from lane-splitting through traffic)

There is a certain freedom about a motorcycle. I could pass people while riding ON the yellow strips seperating lanes. And the occasional highway race with other riders was, besides illegal and "dangerous", high-octane fun! wink
