Topic: Heart attacks

A friend of mine just informed me that they recently had a "slight heart attack."

I know there are general dietary, lifestyle and pharmacalogical avenues of recovery that are normally pursued.    But I'm wondering if there are also important but lesser-known methods of dealing with this situation that others might know about.

Re: Heart attacks

There is a wealth of information on this page:

You won't find the mainstream views here; rather the dangers of statin drugs, the importance of CoQ10 and vitamin C, as well as how the cholesterol theory is wrong.

My best to your friend.

Cayenne pepper or hot chilles and hawthorn are 2 of the best and safe herbs for the heart and circulation and are safe.

Its not like we are fractions of the whole but rather versions of the whole.

Re: Heart attacks

Thanks for the tip of the site Aquarius,

Recently been looking into the side effects of statins.  2 people I know had syncope, (with loss of consciousness), muscle pain, and headaches as a result of these drugs.  One of them I drove to ER, whereby their bloodpressure bottomed out to 56/38  !!!!!!!!!!   sad

Don't usually butt in (try not to) in the ER, but this was not being handled in a triage matter, and I just yelled out "get the crash cart, we have a possible code blue in progress!"  Thank goodness the doc's and seasoned nurses responded and handled the situation before things got real ugly (like throwing a clot).  It took great restraint on my part dealing with a rather "snot nosed" newbie medical assistant attempting to call the shots, but that was the least of my worries during this crisis.  Anyways, the patient was stabilized and spent the next day under observation.

Statins are dangerous drugs, wouldn't be surprised if they get pulled off the shelves in the future, but sadly the profits come first and foremost with many drug companies.

A side note, I noticed my cholesterol went way down after taking evening primrose oil, others have also noticed the same.

Re: Heart attacks

Statins deplete the body of coenzyme Q. As a result, the incidence of congestive heart failure doubled in 5 years after statins were introduced.  The rate of heart attacks decreased slightly.
On a side note, the FDA just passed a law making it almost impossible to sue a drug manufacturer for damages.

Re: Heart attacks

Magnesium deficiency can easily cause heart palpitations and murmurs, so that is definitely something to watch out for. It can make existing heart problems worse unless corrected. Also, sugar crashes and over-acidity puts severe strain on the heart. Trans-fats (partially/fully hydrogenated oils) are also heart killers. On the nonphysical side, adopting a more relaxed, optimistic, and emotionally healthy attitude helps.

Re: Heart attacks

Funny... I was at the cardiologist yesterday because of increased pvc's (pre-ventricular contractions for those that dont know)  Potassium deficiency can also cause palpitations and irregular heartbeats.  I do have a slight murmur,  and I have another condition that makes it necessary for me to take a diruetic.  With the increase in fluid output, I have to keep my potassium levels up.   Alcohol also irritates the heart and will cause an increase of palpitations.     With statins I believe you also have a risk of liver damage.

Re: Heart attacks

I was getting PVC's pretty bad this past winter. I was getting ready to go get checked out by a cardiologist. They happened mostly on the weekends when I was lying down resting, which is odd because a lot of people get them during exercise. I consume large quantities of coffee which is probably the culprit. I did some research on PVC's. Unless there is some underlying heart problem they are completely harmless. Some people get thousands of them daily. You can take beta blockers but they only work about half the time.
After I started doing Spring Forest Qi Gong the PVC's stopped right away and haven't come back. I also stopped smoking 3 weeks ago. I work in a heart hospital as a pharmacist. Watching people come in for thoracotomy (they cut out a piece of your lung) and the massive doses of morphine they require afterwards kind of scared me a little.

Re: Heart attacks

Morningsun, (I apologize I'm laying in bed last night and have the thought I spelled your name wrong)

You might have your friend get some blood work, in particular CRP(C-reactive protein) and homocysteine. These have been shown to be a more definitive link to cardiovascular health than almost anything else.

I would work with the above recommendations too esp. CoQ10, magnesium, Vit C.

Some additions to consider would be SAMe(helps with homocysteine), EFA(essential Fatty acids) a couple B vits(B6 and B12 I think). Potassium and limiting Calcium(both depend on blood levels) and Vit E (coupled with Magnesium may help lower bp/ improve heart circulation.)

Just some thoughts.

Peace,
Teddy

Re: Heart attacks

Wow!  The NR crowd is a knowledgeable bunch -- I learned a lot!!  I would say also pleasurable exercise like walking in a nice place or bicycling or whatever one enjoys, and meditation.  Also, clean, nutritious food incl. lots of fruits and vegetables, "good fats", to avoid the over-acidity Montalk mentioned.  Since everything works together, is there a lesson, situation, or issue in your friend's life that needs to be worked through or overcome?

Re: Heart attacks

Thanks for the ideas everyone.  I will pass them along.
