Topic: Visual flicker and other perceptions

Hello. After 6 months of reading only, I am finally ready to post again.  I thought I'd choose some repeated experiences I have had recently with you, and ask if anyone else has experienced similar things.

I'll try to describe this because it's difficult to interpret as it is, let alone pass on the description of it. The experiences are:

1) If you hold your hands out at a book reading distance from you, and form a circular shape with your thumbs and index fingers, that is about the same size as this 'hole' that I see randomly. Now imagine that you see that sized circle, with a smaller circle inside it, followed by a smaller circle, and so on until its minute. I see this an opaque object, which flashes a slightly brighter pulse I guess, moving inwards at high speeds. I guess you could liken it to a portal that you would see on some fancy sci-fi movie. Anyway, I know its me rather than something outside of me, because whereever I look it follows where I'm looking. So that's not so much my worry, it's more the weirdness of it in the first place, and secondly the randomness of it. Sometimes when I'm having a shower, sometime when I'm waiting for a bus, and at infrequent intervals. It only lasts maybe a minute or two. So yes, that is the first.

2) On occasion, I will wake up naturally from being asleep. If I do so gradually, as in going from dreams to fully awake, as my eyes are opening I will see what I can only describe as 'visual flicker'. I know a lot of you no longer own televisions, but think back to when you used to have them. Or even computer screens. Do you remember the difference between a CRT screen, and a flatscreen that you may now have or have seen? You might notice the difference in flicker -- for televisions, the old ones here were 50Hz and the new ones are 100Hz. At 100Hz, you can't notice it, but at 50Hz you can see the screen flickering. Well that is how I describe my visual experience sometimes when I wake up -- but a lot slower, perhaps 10Hz. I literally see everything flickering, and then as I fully wake up, it speeds up and becomes normal and unnoticeable. So thats the second thing.

3) The third thing, and if you haven't already you will pick up on a trend that this is yet another visual thing. I sometimes take baths, because I find it relaxing, particularly at night. I do so turning the lights off, so its pitch black. I guess in a way its like sensory deprivation. But sometimes I will close my eyes or keep them open -- either way I can't literally see anything, and hold my arms out in front of me. Now this time its cool, because when I concentrate by not thinking about anything...does that make sense? I can see flashes of something, some kind of colour, waving around wherever my arms go. But its not a rigid shape or outline, just a flowing kind of thing, which mimics the movements of my arms. I guess its bright, but not outstandingly bright in colour. As in, I notice and perceive it, but it doesn't magically light up the room. It's just there.

4) Finally, and yes you guess it another visual perception thing. Sometimes -- I do use the word sometimes a lot don't I, but it's just the way these go, I'll look at a wall, or another solid object, and see it vibrating..... Now I don't mean like shaking on the spot, but as in its there, but it isn't fully there. Now this I liken to cartoons, and the way they are created. You see the animation because its flicked at a certain speed, yet if you cut the speed down you can tell that its just individual shots that make up the complete motion. So that's how I would say I see these real/solid objects -- as if they are a cartoon that has been slowed down. Yet when I look at them properly, like a double take - they go back to normal and are unnoticeable as usual. That's it.

So these are my recent experiences I thought I'd share. They aren't world changing I know, and I'm sorry. But I thought this would be a good place to share them, with a higher chance of someone understanding what I'm talking about.

Or having a better suggestion than just - 'you should get a doctor to check that out'.

I hope everyone is going well,

Matt

Re: Visual flicker and other perceptions

I experience a similar phenomena.

When I focus on an object i.e computer screens etc out the corner of my eye I see things vibrating. When I adjust my vision to see these 'things', everything goes back to normal.

Re: Visual flicker and other perceptions

Hi Matt!  I see the vibration that you see quite frequently.  I see it best in low-light, and even better if I'm looking at trees near dusk.  I used to think everyone saw this way until I mentioned once to someone close to me that the trees were vibrating more than usual, and he didn't know what the heck i was talking about.

I also see small bubbles in the air, especially in sunlight.  Again, this is something not even eye doctors can explain.

I believe it was Starcat who posited that this is seeing etherically, or is the beginning of it.  I suspect that you're even better than average if you see the things you're describing.  In particular, seeing traces of your ethiric form while in darkness.  Also, seeing the hertz cycle type thing when you wake up.  It's like seeing beyond the illusion of form, if that makes sense.  As you put it, seeing beyond the illusion of cartoons.... this would be similar.

As for the hole or portal in your vision, I can't speak on that.

When I took LSD years ago, I would see and feel things or even everything vibrating. It was part of my hallucinating experience.

Recently a friend took some liquid at Kerville Folk Festival. Kerville is akin to Rainbow Gathering and whatnot. Anyway he took a double shot sugar cube of this liquid and what happened to him was that he said he 'saw god' by percieving the vibrations of everything there is at the same time and having the 'knowing' that everything was also him and god. He said it looked just like you said - seeing everything vibrate . . . He has a theory he shared with me about his experiences on LSD and it is that the drug helps him to see things for what they really are . . outside of the 'illusion' - just energetic forms and that he recognizes that this is what is happening with his perception.

Back in 2001 I read a short book called The Superbeings and did a short meditation as suggested in the book. It said be calm, close your eyes and concentrate on a spot directly behind your heart and keep thinking the phrase "I am love". When I did it, it made me to where I couldn't stop smiling and I felt like I was being filled with love and vibrational energy. Then I stopped and went outside and was shocked because I realized I was percieving everything to be different than before. Everything looked just like what you said about seeing everything vibrate! And everything looked brighter, too. And more energetic and just more alive. But everything I could see, when I looked at it, would be vibrating.

I am as is Void.

Re: Visual flicker and other perceptions

Matt, you may find these two threads relevant to your experiences:

NR: Brain Hemisphere Vibrations

NR: Right there but never seen: pointless eye trick

I've noticed the flickering since about 2001. It flashes between 7-10Hz and is most apparent in dim lighting. Looks like if a ceiling fan is passing over some night light. If I close my eyes and get into an alpha state, then open my eyes quickly, the flashing is quite powerful but fades within a couple seconds. If I open just one eye, I see that the pulsation is not just constant, but kinda sweeps across my field of vision, and same with the other eye except at a slightly different sweep angle and frequency, so that if I open both eyes like that, the combination produces this rapidly shifting/rotating and disorienting flickering, something like "flicker-flicker-flicker-SHIFT-flicker-flicker-flicker."

But most importantly, I noticed that days or weeks can go by when the flickering is barely even perceptible, if at all there. But in the week prior to some matrix-manipulated drama requiring me to be coolheaded to handle it well, the flickering starts up and increases, then on the morning of the situation the pulsations are really intense and seem to amp me up with nervous reactive energy that interferes with sleep, disorganizes my thoughts, and comes with overactive inner chatter. So I think it's either just some natural phenomenon, or else it's the visual byproduct of some artificial frequency zapping designed to put one into an alpha brainwave state or else entrain and lower soul frequency to make one more reactive. Just a guess...

When I an TRUE tired my vision capacity diminish a lot
and also see flickering in CRT, fluorescent lights and even
incandescent lights.

Re: Visual flicker and other perceptions

I have seen the portal thing you're talking about but usually only outside. I still see this every now and then. the cool thing was is that the first time I saw it I pointed it out to my friend and he BEGAN to see it too! so IMO that gave it a little more validity and possibly more room for inspection

I have experienced the white bright light that flickers right before you wake up. This only happend to me a couple times a WHILE back like a year ago.

I also have experienced the visual vibration of objects. Infact it was so intense EVERYTHING around me was swaying/vibrating everywhere and then I started to freak out and have been too afraid to do it since. This was approximately a year and a half ago.

Re: Visual flicker and other perceptions

Hi Matt.  I have experienced many similar phenomena to the ones you describe, and so have many others.  I think it's safe to say you needn't pay a visit to your doctor about this.  smile

An interesting thing about the "flickering" you describe relates to something I have been  thinking about a lot over the last few years.  It's the idea that time is not continuous.  Just like pictures flashing across a screen at 60Hz, the world only appears to be smoothly flowing by, when in fact it is a sequence of discrete packets of information that the mind uses to create the illusion of continuity.

It is not for us to understand love, but simply to make space for it.

Re: Visual flicker and other perceptions

I notice this flickering often. Sometimes it's more present than others. And it coincides with a vibration I can sometimes feel. 15+ years ago I took LSD and the same sort of flicker was apparent if you were in a dark room, and turn on the light, and it stutters/flickers and dissipates within a few seconds. I did a lot of LSD for a span of a couple years. My vision or the way I perceive things was never the same since. I've wondered if I incurred some sort of physical damage, or if it's some low level or beginnings of etheric vision. A few times I think I have noticed that vibration in solid matter, and the double-take where it goes back to normal. I've also thought maybe LSD *does* make you go insane smile And a few months after I got into the conspiracy reading, found NR, and etc etc. The flicker and vibration things picked up intensity and it's been much stronger and more constant for me. It seems to me to be consistent with what everyone else has written about the flicker above. I was wondering if anyone here has not done a lot of hallucinogens in the past, and is experiencing some of these things?

Re: Visual flicker and other perceptions

Sinaptix, I did much LSD and such when I was younger, and I experience a lot of what everyone else here has mentioned. I think once that door has been opened, once you get that glimpse, you dont percieve things the same way anymore. Im sure a lot of people that have never used hallucinogens probably do experience similar things, but end up going to the doctor for it!

*Looks around, slowly raises hand*  You can count me in on that.  I first began seeing the bubbles and vibrations while on LSD when I was 18, and have never seen things the same way since.  I agree that certain substances can open doors which tend to not close.  I, for one, am happy that this door has opened, and would not change it for the world.

Over the years, I've been able to consciously develop some of the sight I had while tripping, which had initially gone away after the trip was over.  I once heard someone liken the use of hallucinogens to being in a helicoptor and seeing the top of the mountain.  You get a glimpse, but you still have to travel by foot in order to stay there.

Re: Visual flicker and other perceptions

Hey Matt,

Do you or have you been meditating?  If so, how often and for how long?  I'm curiously studying the effects of meditation in light of certain experiences such as how you describe.

cheers

Re: Visual flicker and other perceptions

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies, they are reassuring. To comment and answer some of your questions....

I don't see bubbles, but I see the blue sky as millions of little circles that move and change in brightness. I figured it was just me and the way my brain processes it. But I said this to two of my friends at the beach. One said she saw the same thing, the other had no idea what I was talking about.

That's a great way of explaining it. Perfect in fact. At about the same frequency as a moderately spinning ceiling fan.

I think I get what you mean, if so I had the same thoughts while catching a train a few years ago and watching the track next to me. As the train slowed down, you could see the individual sleepers flashing by, and as it sped up you just saw one constant colour which was in place of sleepers flashing by at a higher frequency. It went from individual objects to one constant object. It is a simple idea yes, but once I realised what I was thinking about it just jumped out at me, and made me realise that what if everything exists like that, along with time speeding up and slowing down whenever. I don't have the answer to it, but it remains something to think about and be aware of.

sinaptix wrote:

Dont do and never have done drugs of any sort ever. I haven't even smoked a cigarette. Not that I care if people do do drugs or not, I just figured I have a great imagination to start with and my mind sees some pretty crazy things anyway that I have no reason to hallucinate. So all that I have described is naturally occuring.

I have meditated in the past, but it isn't something I do regularly. Although, I do listen to clasical music in a way that I would liken to meditation, in that I listen to the music and completely zone out. I relax and think about nothing. But if you mean proper meditation, then no. I would like to start doing it more though.

I hope that answers all your questions. If you have any more please ask. I wasn't expecting such a large response, but I am glad to know there are people who understand and experience these things as well.

Re: Visual flicker and other perceptions

Hello from the pyrenees of spain, I experienced lot of  visual strange perceptions since chilhood, first one and the most important is the ability to see little dots in all things...(not the same as the bright little dancing spots in the blue sky that i also can se since child) . This little points can congregate or link togheter making images usually in a cartonish style..and from the contemplation of this images you can enter in a complete dream scenario like in a lucid dream. Other kind of spots that i see are the spots that surrounded all things...more active in living things, they are specially bigs in trees.

The most curious visual phenomena is the one i have when im outside with a cloudy day or dense fog..and almost always with snow and fog together that make like a isolation box for the eye. this phenomen is close similar to your.. i see in front of my eyes and with the size you mention a strange vortex.. that swirl and swirl at high frequency and is like a maelstrom,, in the middle of the air...

I have read lot of theories about etheric, entopic, hypnagogic, snowy vision, migraine aura vision etc etc etc..but i dont know nothing...i only see this points...
Of course enteogen drugs can improve this kind of vision... but a hard flu with fever can make you see it more,, and i found that staying without sleep more that one day...uffff i can see with my periferic vision like a ghost movie..lot of forms moving quickly around me.

I also have a strange kind of visions every time i close my eyes and stay looking the inner screnn almost every night.. i see eyes...lot of eyes..disambodied eyes,,, perfect human eyes like in the dali picture.. i see this  always..every day... is not an all seeing eye...they are a lot and  have differents between them,, sombody can give me a clue about this?

Just this few comentaries and sorry for my bad english.
Happy summer to all you seekers!!!

Hello Nacho!  I had to point this one out, because I see it too.  It's best, like you said, against a white or light background.  For me, it's like a point of strobing multi-colors.  I also see the points of light or dots in everything, kind of like pixels on the computer.  Very strange!
