Topic: Immigration in Boulder
I just got back from a trip to Boulder, Colorado, and heard something that caught my attention.
Just as it's a hot topic in the problem-reaction-solution throughout the nation, they're currently battling the immigration issue. I still haven't figured out where I stand on this issue, and I'm sure that much of the hullaballoo surrounding it is manufactured. But for what reason?
Anyway, my mother-in-law-to-be was talking about her volunteer work with the Naturalists in the area, and she said one of those things that I flagged as something to notice, and it percolated in my mind. She said that one of the activities they had for the children was to have them identify weeds, and pull out the ones that were "not native to the area," the suggestion being that non-native weeds were harmful to the environment.
Apropos of nothing, the thought came to my mind yesterday that this was a subtle way to indoctrinate the children (and their parents) into seeing immigrants as "non-native weeds" that needed to be uprooted and cast aside.
So here are all the happy, crunchy, granola people who pride themselves on being PC at every turn, and they're promoting a very under-handed form of what amounts to bigotry.
And just why is the immigration issue becoming such a hot-button topic these days? What's the hidden agenda behind this?
