Topic: Mobile phone tracking

Could someone with more skill than me explain the following:

1. Can a mobile phone be tracked to a distinct location?

This could well be paranoia, but I'll explain.

When I used to own a Samsung, if I placed the phone next to a radio, and recieved a text message, I'd hear interference through the radio.

But when I didn't recieve a text message, I'd also hear interference through the radio occasionally. If I moved in the car, and placed the phone next to the car radio, the same thing would happen.

Am I going totally mental or is there something to this?

Hi Zarathustra,

You could probably Google "Cell Phone Tracking" and come to your own conclusions. After observing and listening to 'both sides' I totally believe that you can be tracked through GPS. This is being marketed as 'comforting' ...giving you a 'safe' feeling. Oh. chuckle.

I wonder how the 'chips' will be marketed?... bet they'll think up some doozies to convince people its all out of love of helping people. big_smile

I completely believe the P's when they say that the technology that is being used is a thousand times more advanced than what they are claiming is 'the latest' ... What a crazy Game we're playing. smile

Re: Mobile phone tracking

Old cell phones can be tracked also. You don't have to have GPS, it's simple, your phone is in communication with different cell basestations and as you move around it talks to the pne with the strongest signal. From the grid it's relatively easy to triangulate the location of a phone pretty accurately based on the signal various strengths they can figure out roughly how far away you are from each cell tower.

Re: Mobile phone tracking

I've noticed that newer cell phones produce some kind of interference with eletronic equipment, which you can actually hear through close-by audio speakers as a medium-pitched "BRRRP BRPPB PRRRBRRP" sound. Haha I don't know how else to describe the noise using the English alphabet. smile But anyway my old cell phone from about 5 years ago never had this interference, so I don't know what changed since then.

And yes, you can bet your arse that your cell phone can be tracked to within at least a few meters of your location, either via GPS or by triangulation as already mentioned. So, if you're on the run from the law, or just a paranoid individual, I'd recommend not carrying a cell phone with you...

Yes, and all modern phones have GPS chips which bring the accuracy down to within a few inches or feet.   Even with non-GPS phones it's still just a matter of yards.

Whenever the phone is on, it's communicating with the network periodically.    That's normal.

The bottom line on all this is that any time you are carrying a cell phone, every move you make is being permanently logged, and the microphone can be remotely activated as well to spy on you.  So if you're concerned about privacy, don't carry the phone at all, or pull out the batteries and leave the phone in the car if you are going to have an especially sensitive conversation.

Re: Mobile phone tracking

Hehe..

Try putting your cellphone next to a monitor (not a flat panel, a real monitor) and call your cell from another phone.  See what happens to the screen, hehe.

NOTE: YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.  I will not replace your monitor.  You are warned, I have burned out a monitor this way.

hehe..

Hmmmm Risen ... your post reminds me of wanting to put my finger in the flame 'just to see' ...I have no doubt an OUCH would follow!~! LOL! big_smile

Thanks for the smile! smile ...as well as enforcing the idea that the electronics that are so much a part of our lives need to be recognized as potentially dangerous playtoys.

Re: Mobile phone tracking

Haha RIsen, I have seen the monitor thing at my workplace. Fun with electromagnetic fields! Just imagine what that phone might be doing to your brain when it's up against your head.
