Re: Taking down websites

This really is out-rageous, completely against a freedom-like ideaology. This can't be tolerated at ALL. IMO This is only the begining of future attacks on our liberties, not that this is the first but how can this even be tolerated or over-looked by those in political power. I believe anyone attempting to take a stab at the U.S. Constitution should be put on trial for arrest. Those first 10 Amendments are so well thought out that absolutely no other laws should be accounted as an exception to over-ride the first 10 amendments. Sorry I might be over-dramatizing but I really am getting worried about our country.... for anyone that lives in the U.S. that is.

Re: Taking down websites

Here's how I look at it.  And it's probably not what some people want to hear smile  but here goes:

- This is unfortunately pretty much what we can expect from now on.  We've known this was coming for years.....at least, the conspiracy theorists knew it, even if nobody else was listening or taking them seriously.    So we can't be all surprised about it;

- They can block access to internet sites, but there are ways around them.   And on a sidenote, people shouldn't be using AOL Time Warner anyway, they suck.  Them and their mass CD mailouts cluttering everybody's mailboxes, desparately trying to get everybody to use them.  Bah!   I don't think so.  And if AOL / Time Warner wants to block things?   Let 'em.   We'll boycott them, AND spread the word about it.   Pull the curtain back on what they're doing, reveal this for what it is;

- Take this as a sign that it's time to move on, to the next level.  This is the most important point, the one I figured some might frown upon.   What, are we supposed to read these conspiracy news headlines websites for years, going in circles?   When are we going to start DOING something?   How long are we going to be readers, instead of do-ers?   When the sites start going down, we have no choice anymore but to stop reading and start doing.  It's a nudge, a "sign" if you will.  Time to move to the next stage.

These websites have been around for years, and their site owners have been fighting the fight for years, but did we honestly think we were all going to just keep plugging along, as we are now?   30 years from now did we expect that we'd STILL be sitting in front of our computers, reading Rense, Icke, Alex Jones, etc??    Going in those proverbial circles, getting ALL wound up by the doomsday conspiracy headlines?  Basically, same s***, different day?

No.   We knew that things were going to change.   Change is not necessarily bad.  Change is a catalyst for a new way of being to come in.   So take this as a nudge from something who feels that we've gotten a bit "stuck", or stagnant.  It's time to get moving, move on to the next step.

And to tackle the idea of "But these sites keep everybody informed about what the government is up to!!!  These sites give us the TRUTH that the mainstream media won't give us!!!   We NEED them for that!!  We NEED someone who can tell us these things!!"

Again, we've been reading this material for how long now....???   We already KNOW what's going on.   We don't need Alex Jones, Jeff Rense, David Icke, et al to tell us anymore what "really happened" any time some major worldwide event has happened.    They have laid the foundation of what we need to know and what we need to look for, so that we in turn can take those tools and now use them to think for ourselves.

It's not hard to look at any mainstream media item and see through it and dissect it for what it really is.   Once you've learned how to do it, from the tools that were given to us by these guys and many others, you can do it on your own.   Technically, we don't NEED these sites to forever be telling us what's "really" happened.   We should know by this point.   The media lies.   Anything you hear from them is a distortion.  This reality is not what they're telling us it is.   Period.    How much more do you honestly need to know, right?     So now it's time to move to the next level.    And to think that we need these sites just for "the principle of it" is to say that you kind of believe that the world as we currently know it will still exist in its present form decades from now.   Which it won't.     It was all bound to change.   The conspiracy theorists knew it years ago.  Some people are just having a hard time dealing with it now that the time has officially arrived.   It's no longer in the future.  It's now.

If someone is feeling an urge to take on the censorship issue, that's cool, it's not a bad thing to do, because I don't think this should be allowed to happen without some sort of fight.   Like I mentioned earlier, boycott AOL / Time Warner, tell everybody you know and pull the curtain back on this, expose it.    But also see the signs and feel the nudge to move on to the next level.  Don't just remain stagnant, in front of your computer, thinking that for the next 20, 30, 40, 50+ years we were going to  have these sites to continually pour over, stagnantly going in circles, forgetting to move along.    smile

Re: Taking down websites

Nice one Lyra, how did conspiracy theorists manage before computers? smile
There is the old one that banning something makes it even more desirable as word spreads i bet those sites will get a few hits for a while.
Hey i bet you still get the porn sites though

Its not like we are fractions of the whole but rather versions of the whole.

So true.  hmm   Not that I care about porn, or am all anti-porn, but it is funny that we'll still have access to porn if we wanted, but not alternative news sites.  Figures.

I'm just seeing a problem, if you want to call it that, with humans overall getting very "stuck."   The words stuck and stagnant kept appearing in my post, but that's because it's an apt description of what's happening.   People get set in their ways, set on reality being a certain way, set in going in circles................then forget to move forward.   I'm seeing it EVERYWHERE I LOOK, in all aspects of life, and it probably could be a topic in itself.  !  Seriously.  I've become soooo all about promoting solutions, and transcending stuff, moving beyond, getting *UN*stuck.  Remembering who we are, where we're going, and then GETTING there.   I love the analogies we see about humanity getting trapped in an eddy, a whirlpool, because it's just so true.

Yes, websites are being banned.  But we saw it coming, we knew this was going to happen.....now let's do something about it, while simultaneously remembering to unstick ourselves and move along to the next phase!!  smile

Re: Taking down websites

Very good points, lyra.

I just called in to Time Warner again and they're still claiming it's a network issue and that many people and websites are affected.  I asked him if he had a list of websites that were not accessible and he said no, but one example he knew was http://www.photobucket.com.   This site doesn't come up for me.  Can someone who's using Time Warner check and see if that's a valid site?

In related news, the EU is formally planning to seize control of the internet from the US.

Re: Taking down websites

Yes, it's working again.  I'm glad that we're not "there" yet, though it's possible this was a "testing the waters" exercise.    I'd be interested to know how many calls Time Warner got on this and if the customer response to this situation might have some bearing on any possible future plans to block troublesome websites.  I'm also not convinced that this was just a technical snafu "outside their network" as TW claims.   If that was the case then we should have seen reports of more other troubles as well.

Re: Taking down websites

Still not working for me

Re: Taking down websites

Anyone else having trouble with www.davidicke.com ?

Don't know if this is part of the trouble, but I thought I'd post it here.

Network feud leads to Net blackout

By John Borland

Two major Internet backbone companies are feuding, potentially cutting off significant swaths of the Internet for some of each other's customers.

On Wednesday, network company Level 3 Communications cut off its direct "peering" connections to another big network company called Cogent Communications. That technical action means that some customers on each company's network now will find it impossible, or slower, to get to Web sites on the other company's network.

William Steele, a senior network engineer for Syncro Services, said his company noticed the problem Wednesday morning.

"There are some people I can't send an e-mail to," Steele said. "At home, I have Road Runner as an ISP, and wasn't even able to remotely connect in order to manage our servers."

"Peering" arrangements are maintained by network companies that agree to connect their networks directly together to exchange traffic more efficiently. When the companies are of roughly equal size, money rarely exchanges hands.

Level 3 contends that its arrangement with Cogent is no longer financially viable, since it is larger than the other company. It has asked Cogent to seek other arrangements, possibly including paying for the traffic exchange, a Level 3 representative said.

Cogent CEO Dave Schaeffer contested that claim, saying that its network is at least as big as Level 3's, and that it makes no sense to pay for the connection. Cogent is offering any Level 3 user who can't get to Cogent sites free Internet service for a year, in an attempt to attract its rival's customers.

"Our goal is to have this problem go away, whether through Level 3 reconsidering or their customers coming to us," Schaeffer said.

The Level 3 representative said the company was unlikely to reconsider its position, however.

The problem is likely to affect only a small number of each company's customers. Many network company customers have several connections to the Internet and can use an alternate connection to reach a site that might otherwise be blocked.

A similar Net blackout happened in 2001, when Cable & Wireless and PSINet were embroiled in a billing dispute.

Re: Taking down websites

I've been looking up govt. corruption (various sites) and here and there a real juicy tidbit will have been removed, saying "page cannot be displayed or server failed" or some other lie. I'm getting infowars.com perfectly fine, but certain pages have been removed. I'ts starting to look a lot like 1984.

Re: Taking down websites

Also, in response to Lyra, I agree it's time for some type of "action", but i'm having a hard enough time everyday with the powers that be that I don't think we need to instigate this sort of thing. I'm just trying to get by, but knowing what I know, I appear to be a "rebel" . I saw two full riot gear NYPD officers today "guarding" a subway entrance at six p.m. in apparent response to the Britain and Scotland "terrorism recently. I changed my path, but i feel like a wimp for doing so.

Re: Taking down websites

they're keeping close tabs allright. I've got an idea. Yes, these truthful sites will eventually all be gone, so maybe we could create an email list where anyone can post and all members recieve it, if they want. there's got to be a way to keep this forum going. the fate of humanity might depend on it. in this brave new world, we're running out of options.

of course, they could censor and ban all of our "hate mail" traffic, or ban each of us from the web altogether. scary and scarier. seriously, there should be a failsafe, even if it means creating alter ego websites that change names weekly. maybe we'll have to snail mail but it's worth it.
