That is indeed extremely disturbing. Just hearing what was in the video from montalk who was watching it off to the side while I was doing something else made my stomach tighten up and my nerves stand on end. I don't even know what to say, this is some serious SERIOUS shite, in a MAJOR way. It takes the cake out of everything we've heard so far.
Basically for people who haven't seen it and are curious, there was an open bridge next to the Convention Center leading to a town that has electricity and food......................and the military set up a checkpoint and wouldn't allow anybody to cross. They kept teling everybody to stay inside the convention center, that "help is on the way".................but help never came. Day after day, they were forced to stay at the convention center instead of leaving through the open bridge to the next town.

It's disturbing as well, as it recaps in the Mayor's own words everything that the gov't and the President did wrong in reacting to this, all the back and forth fiasco he continually went through fighting for every scrap of help he could get, and he lays it all out there, their total ineptitude, even saying that he's going to be in big big trouble later for what he's saying, but he doesn't care.
Three lessons that we can learn from Katrina -- everybody really read this and take note too:
1) BE PREPARED. Be prepared for whatever situation could happen to you in the area where you live. California -- Earthquakes. The Northwest - earthquakes and Cascade mountain volcano eruptions. The south/east - Hurricanes, flooding, etc. The Northeast - severe winters, cold snaps and flooding. Wherever you live, assess what is the likely thing that could happen and just be on top of things. Have supplies on hand, know your ways out, and have alternative forms of transportation in mind.
2) DON'T EXPECT TO BE RESCUED AND CODDLED. You're going to be on your own. You have to have the mentality that you need to take care of yourself. Don't expect that the gov't will take care of us like we're babies, cause they won't, and they proved it with Katrina. Adapt the survivalist mentality when faced with a situation.
3) DON'T LISTEN TO WHAT "THEY" TELL YOU TO DO. They corralled tens of thousands of people together in the Super Dome and Convention center.......................BIG mistake. Be the sheep that slips through the cracks and ducks out. Take care of yourself. When they're corralling the herd one way, go the other way. And do what you have to do to slip out. There were people in New Orleans who made it out of the city through sheer resourcefulness. People who stole school busses and mail trucks, did what they had to do to get themselves away from that situation. They didn't just sit there and let themselves be corralled around. That's the mentality we have to have. I totally dug the story about the "renegade school bus" that showed up at the Houston Astrodome. A 20 year old kid behind the wheel of a stolen school bus full of people. I was grinning when I read that. Good for him.
EDIT: The first reports about the "renegade school bus" said it was stolen, and that officials at the Astrodome were a big
when it came to what to do with them, and then decided "they could stay"; But when I just looked it up online, the story now is that they were given the school bus by police in New Orleans who told them to round up as many people as they could find and get out there. Here's the most updated version:

"We took the bus and got out of the city. We were trying to get out of the city," James Hickerson said.
Several passengers on the bus said they took the matter into their own hands earlier Wednesday because they felt rescuers and New Orleans authorities were too slow in offering help.
"They are not worried about us," said Makivia Horton, 22, who is five months pregnant."
"took the matter into their own hands" indeed!!!!!!!! Adopt this mentality!!!!!
