In some places yes. The last time I was in Itacare I noticed that some cafes were advertising high-speed internet access. I don't know how it compares with USA/European high-speed but it must be quicker than standard dial-up.

Re: Marijuana

Some more important questions to ask yourself would be: is Brazil really part of your destiny or is it just a convenient dream that your ego needs to feel content and avoid taking responsibility for your daily life? Will beach, ayahuasca and high-speed internet access make you permanently happy, or will you still have to face the same soul-issues once this illusion fades away? Did you "find your way", or are you trying to solidify an experience which, despite being wonderful, was not necessarily meant to become your whole life? Only you know the answers.

I can't speak for anyone else here, but personally I have a couple of reasons for wanting to move to Brazil, none of which I've mentioned here yet, and none of which have hardly anything to do with apathy, frustration or wanting to avoid taking responsibility for anything.

Why do you feel the need to question peoples motives when you have absolutely no idea what they are?

Re: Marijuana

Ermolai -- if I can be so bold -- I don't recall Aya saying that he was facing "soul-issues" -- to think that anything makes one permanently happy to me is folly.  I don't think Aya was saying this at all, rather that he likes Brazil, it's beautiful -- nothing wrong with living among beauty --

Frankly, Brazil is looking pretty good to me at the moment smile  Time put Mr. Bush on its cover as Man of the Year --

You noted the frustration of having to come back to so-called "mundane reality" and dealing with people who "don't get it", apparently shared with many other participants to this workshop. This is "daily life" for many of us, but we do not need to be helpless in front of this situation. "Mundane reality" can be transformed into an exciting adventure if you align with your higher self and dare to follow your dreams (which again may or may not include Brazil -- only you know).

Perhaps I'm just communicating with my mirror, or a part of me that I've left -- or am trying to leave -- behind? Perhaps this is what we all do? But I love to question everything and do not feel sorry for it. If you feel offended, ask yourSelf why.

We are all facing "soul-issues", otherwise we would not be here, stuck in duality. And this is a "generalization" I'm not ashamed to state.

Christine B. wrote:

True, but attachment to beauty and pleasure keeps you stuck in the illusion.

Or I could say: we all live among beauty, if we have eyes to see it. big_smile

Where have I ever stated that my idea of happiness is beach, ayahuasca and high-speed internet access? I'm at a loss as to why you think this. Stop making assumptions about people, it's not clever and it's not spiritual.

or will you still have to face the same soul-issues once this illusion fades away?

What do soul-issues have to do with this? Is there some spiritual law that says I'm supposed to live in the same place my whole life? I've lived in my current city my entire life (29 years) so far. I've had a strong urge to move on for over 5 years now. I don't actually plan on spending the rest of my life in Brazil, but who knows. I never really plan anything. Maybe I won't even end up there at all. I'm not an intellectual person who thinks about everything too much. I follow my heart, not my mind, which is why I resonate strongly with Heart of the Initiate. From their website - "We are born into the world of mind; the journey from our minds to our hearts can be a difficult one. Heart of the Initiate is about this inner journey."

You have no idea what my primary motive is for moving to Brazil, but I can promise you it's nothing to do with wanting to sit on a beach drinking ayahuasca all day long.

Did you "find your way", or are you trying to solidify an experience which, despite being wonderful, was not necessarily meant to become your whole life?

Who said ANYTHING about it being my whole life? Assumptions again. Maybe I'll stay in Brazil 6 months and then move somewhere else, I have no idea. I'm just following my heart here and it hasn't let me down so far.

Only you know the answers.

You're certainly right about that. I do!

If you feel offended, ask yourSelf why.

It's not the questions that annoy me, it's the highly condescending tone.

Re: Marijuana

So any way back the Marijuana issue,

Ive had a problem, well yeah i can say def a problem with the weed for some time now. It currently is the biggest issue in my life right at this very moment in time. I have been smoking weed more or less pratically everyday for the last 10 years and Ive now come to a point in my life where i know I have to stop it to continue my spiritual evolution as to the way I want it to be.
Ive realised now that I started smoking dope when I was in high school so I could "fit in" and I was finally getting attention from people other than trying to be myself (which I was always constanly being picked on for being myself) . Upon trying it, I was like this is fuckin great shit, im now getting attention from people (because I looked sooo stoned, which I actually looked worse than what I felt) people were like "your totally f*cked up man" and I would just look and laugh and then everyone would laugh and then crack in to the bag of crisps and the chocolate bar on the side, and then look at each other and crack up laughin, it was great, I finally felt accepted!
Then for the next couple of years I led myself in to a lifestyle that I rather enjoyed, smoking weed at any oppurtunity possible, bongs in the morning, bongs for lunch , bongs for dinner, bongs for a midnight snack, yet I wasnt as bad as some who smoked inbetween meals and more or less during their sleep so I didnt feel what I was doin was that bad.
Then the years went by, doin what I did, basically having a ball.  Inbetween then and now one day I found myself of who I was like never before , yet it was a feeling I had felt before, funnily enough it happened to be on mushrooms, and my god what an experience it was. This was the first I felt this complete oneness, that everything was connected and that it was all based completely on love, then I lost control, the emotion, the feeling was immense and I basically lost control and taught myself a very valuable lesson. (If u would like to know the complete story let me know but dont have enough time to explain it now)!
Anyway, Ive continued to smoke weed till this day and now come to a realisation that ive been using it as a crutch since the day I started, not to say that it hasnt made me see things in a different way, it has given me the insights in to what I feel to be real today and made me the person who I am but ive come to this crossroad where I feel I really need to stop, its become an addiction, but at the same time I see no reason why i cant cut down to smoking every now and then (moderation), it wont do me any harm, but I can see over the years my indulgence has now put a hold on my evolution. Ive learned so much from it but now I come to the time where I do need to stop.
So my problem is do I completely stop or can I just cut it down to the same as having a relaxing a relaxing drink at the end of the day from a hard days work. In fact i'd rather smoke than drink anyday but overall I 'd prefer to do niether because I believe you musn't rely on that to relax you.
Then the arguments start saying that well whats the problem with having a joint every now and then and I can't see well why not, it takes the edge off the everyday reality, but then I should be enjoying my everyday reality to the full and making the most out of everyday, then at then end of the day I can chill out with a nice spliff.
Basically im just sharing with you the arguments  that go on in my head about this whole situation and quite frankly ive had enough of the back and forth , pros and cons (I have back and neck probs which smoking helps), situation which im in at the moment.
I know realising having a problem in the first place is the first step to solving it, I just need to know what the "right" thing to do is and that I can only know,
The problem is that I like smoking it , the problem is that I know in my self is that I know I have to COMPLETLY stop to get to where I want to go but that place I want to go i'll get there anyway, no matter what I do.
So do I keep smoking it knowing that I will get there anyway and just enjoy the ride, or do I stop now and go through the tough road of cold turkey, so in the end i feel much better for it and come out a much stronger person.

I think I just answered my own question. big_smile

Now ive just got to stop. But what about my back and neck? :s

Re: Marijuana

Maydovus - The most qualified person to give you an answer on this is yourself. However, I shall say this:

I too must confess to smoking ganja regularly. Many people I know lecture me on how bad it is without having smoked it themselves, many of my friends have stopped because "it ****s up your life" etc etc etc I've heard it all. Basically, what I have to say is this:
In the amount of time that I have been smoking it regularly, I have become more aware, I have lost the inhibitions that prevented me from utilising the immense creativity and imagination I have always possessed, and I think it's a good tool for mindfulness and when I am working on a problem. I haven't experienced any of the downsides that supposedly go hand in hand with "addiction". I'm speaking from my own experience, I think alot of the propaganda floating around influences people's minds to a degree.

Sugar, fat, alcohol, nicotine, television, celebrities, voyeuristic tabloids & reality shows, videogames, pop music, pornography, fast cars, bullying: These are all "addictions" that I would place above Marijuana in terms of harmful apathy inducing distractions/delusions.

Re: Marijuana

Maydovus,

I am your mirror reflection here.

I just decided to quit smoking pot TODAY. JUST now. (well , this morning, like 10 hours ago)

I like pot, and im pretty sure i will puff the magic dragon a few times more in my life (prolly more than a few) BUT- it has become an everday form of control on me. and You, too, i bet.

do you look forward to coming home and lighting a fat joint to unwind ? if YES, you are using Mary Jane as an Escape. while understandable, one shouldnt have to blaze up in order to relax. thats the control-trick: u need Maryjuana to relax.

i was at the point where i would smoke @ 7 am before going to work (hoping to make the day go by faster) then smoke at noon before school (hoping to make the day go by faster), smoke during the class break, and then smoke afterschool, sometimes more than once.

thats too fucken much man.

you are on the right path when you consider using "moderation". But let me give you a suggestion: (this is what i decided to do today)

QUIT cold turkey for at least one month (you can set your own reasonable test-time)

after you have accomplished that, if you feel you can moderate your usage and ONLY smoke for recreational purposes every now and then-- give it a try.

if you feel that you have outgrown the usefulness of pot in your life-- then that is great, you already quit so there ya are.

Maydovus, believe me when i say i hear the same voices in my head:
"dont smoke pot anymore!" "why not? nothing wrong with it" "it does nothing for you" "but my body aches and it alleviates me" bla bla bla it never ends.

the FIRST reaction/voice/feeling is almost 99.99999% right. i have noticed it, and everytime it is always the first voice that says "dont smoke" and following that are the rebuttals that convinced me to continue smoking.

i feel your dilemna, as i have tricked myself into thinking i have Back/Neck problems as well. whereas i may have some truth in that, it certainly doesnt automatically mean pot is the answer.  but ill be damned, pot helps ease the pain real good.

its the definition of being between a rock (stoner) and a hard place.

as for me, ive officially announced my soberness (from pot)

....now where's the shrewms ?

Re: Marijuana

Marijuana opens doors...I do not believe it should be used recreationally. In that case so many doors open everywhere that one forgets he/she is supposed to walk through some of them! It is a beautiful tool in terms of facilitating the re-programing of our mental wiring. Marijuana "jumbles" the psyche within its existing boundaries. However, the jumbling can quite easily be controlled and directed. In this case it is a similar to shuffling a pack of cards or learning a new game with your existing pack. The jumblng effect has the advantage of enlarging the scope of awareness, not necessarily on a short term basis. Once one becomes accustomed to the basic re-programing skills, the possibilities quickly become obvious. This could be taught, however being that it is based on the existing structures (or awareness) it is mainly an individual development.

As long as you don't decide to stop completely you'll keep on being controlled by the Marijuana daemon.

These are meme-excuses generated by the Matrix. Just because everyone tries to escape reality doesn't mean that it's OK if you do too. Ask yourSELF what you really want.

As I see it the most important is to learn to maintain our energies, so that we can start using them more creatively. So long as we bleed energy constantly (all drugs, no matter how "consciousness-expanding", create holes in our subtle bodies) then it's almost impossible to escape the Matrix. Of course you can delude yourself endlessly that you're really freeing yourself and/or becoming more enlightened.
