Just got through the first few pages and was really struck by your description of us being characters in a video game. I've had that same thought and taken it as far as I could go with it mentally, and it holds up well.
Even think of how we all have strengths and weaknesses that we can build on, but can't completely change. If you're extremely mental, it's going to be at the expense of some other attribute, like strength, charm, or dexterity even.
When you begin a role playing game, the first thing you do is decide what race and type your character will be, whether he or she will be a thief (dexterity, sneaking, charm), a warrior (strength, constitution), or a mage (wisdom, intelligence, charm) etc.
Kind of makes you wonder whether we do that as souls before we come in. "Well, I need more points to bump up my wisdom. Hmmm... maybe I'll take a couple out of dexterity and one out of strength."
