We know for a fact that this goes on? We know that they find massive reserves, cap them off, and 'forget' about them? I know that when the U.S. finds oil in it's own territory it does this in case of war. It is hording its own oil in case of future wars. So that would make sense and it would be an unintentional form of gouging. I doubt other countries are capping their reserves off, since they desperately need money to strengthen their armies and what not.

Ahh, I try not to speak in absolutes... but I did.

Anyone else remember claims that the oil in Iraq was supposed to pay for the war?
For that matter, how much does the warmachine consume? I seem to remember seeing numbers about that a few years back, but I don't know where to look for that info.

That old saying "it takes money to make money" obviously washed over into the military philosophy, just replace money with oil. But that isn't the whole story either is it.... (wink)

I think it's a great thing I bought a bicycle.  And I don't think it'd change the world very much if humans did run out of oil.  People will just switch to ethanol, or pig dookie, or even grow hemp to keep the system alive.  The show must go on.

I have found this thread to be quite informative. Not about PO, but about the quality of the intellects that are posting on this forum and the amount of research that they engage in before posting. I shall use the lessons from this thread as a baseline in my evaluations of future posts, especially on topics of metaphysics where objective information is not readily available (as in PO) and people are relating subjective experiences. A very informative thread, thanks to all who posted.

Lindsey Williams *snigger, a man called Lindsey* supposedly used to work in Alaska as a Minister amongst the big wigs who pulled the string up there. He's written a book called 'The Energy Non-Crisis' and he's talked about his experience, which can be seen on youtube.

He says that in 1970 he knew that there were a group of powerful people pulling the strings behind the scene and they are fudging oil prices and such other underhand things like that.
