Topic: Rooftop Speakers in NYC emit ads straight into your cranium

This is nuts!

http://adage.com/article?article_id=122491

Has anybody experienced this first-hand? Now it's out in the open that this kind of thing is done!  The only good thing I can think of as a result of this is that if people are aware of this type of "advertising", it may make it harder to successfully beam their other garbage into our heads without people catching on.

edit: I love how somebody took down the speaker...twice in one day!!!

So was it a ghost or just an annoyed resident who stole the speaker from the SoHo billboard twice in one day last week? Horizon Media, which helped place the billboard, had to find a new device that would prevent theft from its rooftop location. Mr. Pompei only takes it as a compliment that someone would go to the trouble of stealing his technology, but hopes consumer acceptance comes with time. "The sound isn't rattling your skull, it's not penetrating you, it's not doing anything nefarious at all. It's just like having a flashlight vs. a light bulb," he said.

Riiight, you'll eventually learn to LOVE having advertisements and whatever the hell else we feel like beaming directly into your head! Nothing nefarious here mad

Re: Rooftop Speakers in NYC emit ads straight into your cranium

Look at this bullshit. Advertising is being put onto the bottom of cups, into the scrips of movies that are actually writen around these ads, soon in fortune cookies, and if god really hates us: tampons in the form of messages that appear when sufficient blood is shed into each rag. It's so crazy I'm actually considering boycoting the products I see out of spite. Look at some of the crap on the market today that is advertised instead of being improved. Ironicaly the worst products sell the most. I'm too pissed off the list everythings that pisses me off. Anyone with me on the attitude towards stupid products? I hate Coke

I've got my consumption down very low now. My goal is to have not more than I can carry in a backpack. At the moment I have the problem of a very large library that is giving me grief. Time to sell all those books. My other problems are a car and a cell phone. Once I can figure out how to dump those I'll be very happy.

Most of my food intake is non-processed organics, but I still rely on stores for food.

I make very good money and buying possessions just depresses me. I am trying to slowly immunize myself to all advertisements.

Count me in!

Re: Rooftop Speakers in NYC emit ads straight into your cranium

It's interesting to note that these particular ads are for some kind of "paranormal" TV show. So now the average person is going to be comfortable with artificially induced "paranormal" auditory experience. Oh wow! I'm more creeped out now than ever by those damn "cellphone towers" with all the speakers hanging off of them. It's ever so interesting that these mass murderers often tend to hear "voices", including that latest shooter in Colorado.

This may well be yet more old underground tech just quietly seeping into mass consciousness. Knowing about the two methods in this thread is absolutely critical
for all of us. Let none of us be taken in.

I didn't see that the billboard thing and the God Gun were actually using the same technology. I guess they would be... my duh.

So it comes down to methods of use.

Nefarious and Nefarious-er

What a world.

Re: Rooftop Speakers in NYC emit ads straight into your cranium

I walked by it tonight to see if there's really anything going on. I'm not sure, since it's a really busy area, especially on a Friday night with all the bars, restaurants, lounges and clubs. I stood there for a good 10 minutes, pretending that I was waiting for a friend and I  waited for something to happen haha. I didn't get an urge to see the show (it probably sucks) nor did I sense anything. I was just staring at it, seeing and allowing something "paranormal" to happen to me. Bleh.  I didn't get anything. I think it's because the area was busy and there was a ton of noise around me. Eh, I'm sure that technology does work, but surprisingly not tonight and not on me. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I'll try again before that big poster goes down.

It sounds like people reacted to it quite negatively (judging from the vandalism:o), so maybe they got a bunch of complaints and decided to shut it off. Good to hear a first hand report, Proto, even if you didn't hear anything. PS. That's probably a good thing;)

Yeah, no problem.  I haven't heard about this until I saw your post. I was like "hey, I'm around that area about once a week, let me check it out." lol
