Interesting sense of humor.
My opinion is that naming this "Funnny Movie" is misleading.
I think that ***WARNING: VIEW AT OWN RISK*** is more appropriate.
Jonathon just got banned. I'm a friend of his
Don't watch that if you have a heart condition, you may go into cardiac arrest.
Jonathon just got banned. I'm a friend of his
Banned for what? Just posting that link? That's a bit harsh isn't it?
And what happened to Thoth, I notice he's had his membership cancelled. Has he been banned for something as well?
Unless there's something I don't know about I think the moderators are really over reacting here!.
Jonathon's the same kid I removed several weeks ago for being immature and hotheaded during the previous period of weirdness when the atmosphere here was already explosive. For the past year I have talked with him on instant messenger about various subjects, and via one-on-one I don't mind helping him despite his dyslexia or odd questions, but having him on the forum is a different matter. At the time we discussed it offlist and he gladly agreed to leave the forum and read posts from then on as a guest - no loss to him as he can read and learn all he wants. Then he rejoins a few weeks later contrary to his agreement and posts the same stuff as before. I just discovered this last night and therefore removed him again. He hasn't been banned, just deleted as a user, which I guess is injury though without the insult. Then he joins again as "Billing" pretending to be a friend of Jonathon and letting us all know he's been banned. I tried posting my notice about Jonathon last night but my site went down. Jonathon's IP: 210.54.194.133 -- Billing's IP: 210.54.194.133. Those are his first and last names, respectively.
As for Thoth, he emailed me with a request to delete his account. I guess he got offended because I edited a long string of "f***"s out of one of his posts, and deleted another thread of his in the Humor and Fun section where he posted a link to a page about various violent and degrading things to do to women during sex, talking about how utterly hilarious this page was.
So to summarize: Jonathon rejoined despite saying he wouldn't, then signed on under "Billing" after discovering he had been removed again, and Thoth asked me to delete his account after being offended at my moderating one post and one thread of his.
OK. Well that's certainly fair enough!
Unless there's something I don't know about I think the moderators are really over reacting here!.
Trust me, there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that MOST people here "don't know about." Then somebody gets banned, or removed at their own request, and people start jumping to conclusions and getting indignant at the moderator. There's a lot more to the aaronfirebrand situation for instance, that most everybody here is completely unaware of. And pretty much NOBODY saw that link that Thoth posted, because montalk was able to delete it right away, but if they had seen it, it would have painted Thoth in a whole new light. Unless you're someone who finds that humor funny, you would have been frowning, trust me. You gotta love people who come on here pretending to be interested in the topics discussed at Montalk and on the forum, meanwhile, their posts show something very different. Like Thoth for instance. His first paragraph in his very first post was this long winded ego stroking compliment directed towards me, "Oh lyra, I love your writings, you're so great, you're so wonderful...." which raised the red alarm flags for me. Being the target of somebody's opening paragraph is unnerving, it's like being "marked" in the crosshairs. From there he proceeded to get involved in long winded back and forth and back and forth and back and forth debates about who knows what. Half of his replies said absolutely nothing, and just served to keep the debate endlessly going, sucking up energy and time. I politely backed out of one of them because it was a time waster and energy drain. Then he began attacking aaronfirebrand, writing nasty posts which cussed him out, then going back and editing them and deleting them. Then his other posts began taking on that acerbic tone, cussing and saying sarcastic things to various members. Then he posted that last "humor link", which described as montalk put it, violent and degrading things to do to women during sex, which was supposed to be "SOOOOOO" funny. That was the true Thoth, glimpses of which had popped out here and there throughout his posts leading up to that, but which seemed to go unnoticed by most people here. And the rest is history.
Well, I am glad not to have seen whatever link -- and I would hope those who are honest about networking on this "Noble Realm" will consider the quality of the information they are sharing.
Active moderation in this area is appreciated!
And with language, it would seem obvious that one would restrain their vulgarity from strangers or someone's grandparents. Is it too much to ask the same discernment when posting on a forum? After all, we are mostly strangers talking together.
I also do appreciate any caveat's or notes attached to links. As some of us know, the Internet is no different from human reality -- there are certain sectors that are void of light. So, thanks to Wandering1 for posting the note and allowing others to make a more adequate judgment about following that link. (as if the url didn't say enough...)
Maybe these are also something to add in a "read this first" type of entrance post for new comers?
I can confirm what Montalk and lyra are saying. I've seen a lot of the distracting nonsense that was posted by aaron and thoth and personally think the board is better off without their posts. I'm also opposed to censorship in general but think Montalk's policy here is very open and only cutting out some very obscene and inflammatory comments that have no redeeming value.
The "READ FIRST" page is a good idea, I'll put one up soon. Most people who join already come "equipped" with consideration and common sense and soon get a feel for how this forum operates. But an informative intro to Noble Realms would help remove any ambivalence, so thanks for suggesting this.
Most of us appear very STO oriented, open minded, intelligent, and reasonable. I'm sure we'd all like to keep it that way.
Open question, is this car commercial video something that's being widely spread around the net lately?
morningsun-- I remember seeing this video a couple years back. I think it's a case of "what's goes around comes around." Nice way to feed negative forces with a big jolt of fear.
ahh... to click, or not to click....
ill just let this one pass...
besides the original post, i think montalk does a fine job watching over and moderating the board. fair in every sense of the word.
like i said before, this is montalk's site, and he pays for and runs this place, therefore he has the right to make decisions about it, etc.
but instead of being an authoritative censor and bias moderator, much like MANY forums all over the 'net, montalk maintains a free realm here without many rules, and this shows alot of trust and open-mindedness.... which is what this place is all about.
the read me first section and some easy guidelines should help people to learn how this forum works, if they didnt already have a sense.
this is a place for positive, open-minded discussion, with a sprinkle of conversation. posting soemthing showing degrading actions against women during sex would NOT be fulfilling this forum's purpose, and actually works against our goals here, get the point ??
same goes for this clip here, even though i havent seen it, it seems to not be very nice.
