Anyone else here into Nina Hagen?  I am pretty obsessed with her.  I'd like to know what the more spiritually minded folk think of her approach to music.  I have a really weird connection to her daemon or whatever you wish to call it, and we pretty much share the same beliefs.  She is a highly sensitive brand of Pisces (born March 11 - a particularly powerful day to be born on as far as psychic abilities and intuition go)  Some of her music has a strong spiritual message (even bordering on preachy) but she's been quite a musical chameleon throughout the years without ever losing her identity.  When I hear her voice in action, I literally feel that she's sending a message from the unseen - not in anything logical like words, but in terms of creative expression.  "Weird" springs to mind, but she is a visionary... goes with the territory.  In her prime, she had over four octaves - and she exhausted her capabilities to operatic heights and demonic gutteral lows.  Mix in an alarming sense of humor and you have a great example of a transcendental singer.  Hard to describe what she can do - as she says, "it's beyond words"... she also has personal tales of being visited by UFOs.  She's all around out-there, which I consider a product of her sensitivity - drug experimentation at an earlier age certainly amplified her vision and creativity to unspeakable levels.  Pretty much a love-her-or-hate-her type...

Born in East Berlin, her musical background was in classical (opera) though she had gone touring with jazz musicians after dropping out of high school and then went on to become the "mother of punk" - her first proper album (Nina Hagen Band - Nina Hagen Band) was an art-punk freakout with totally bizarre energy.  It's evident how brilliant she is here.  But she went on to so many other things, including new wave, pop, experimental and old standards.  I've managed to find some good clips of the space punk diva.

Hey can i quickly say that this is probably my favourite thread on NR. I can't really say how music effects me except to say that I cry when I hear an exceptional song because for a while I would not exchange the experience of the song for anything. Or something like that.

Incredible amounts of info, I found it fascinatin'

In my bit of experience, techno tracks come out with less noticeable artifacts than conventional music, at comparable resolution, 128 or higher. So I am still torn whether to do an mp3 player at all.
Equipment is important to the audiophile, but lately I am almost willing to sacrifice some sound quality for convenience and capacity. And I am $%^&(# tired of fumbling with discs in the car.

I may be turning into a damn pod. sad

I picked up a pair of Sony 40mm driver home headphones recently (I have neighbors) but when they're not around I light up my old Rectilinears. I think they're 30+ years old.. they still sound better than Bose towers, even with a mid 80's Denon preamp.

I don't have any of that newfangled surround crap... Just give me WATTS
