Was the hummus bad?

If you do a search on salmonella, you'd find that they say that salmonella is one of the most common food borne illnesses and that there are over 40,000 reported cases a year.  It primarily stems from raw meat, particularly poultry, and animal feces.  So, somehow, someway, food comes into contact with raw meat and dirty food that has animal feces in it, probably through sloppy handling practices.

Back in '99 I was traveling with my then-boyfriend around AZ and NM and by the time we hit Chaco Canyon, NM I was deathly ill.  It could have happened anywhere in our travels, but my ex heard on the radio that there was salmonella in the orange juice that was delivered to the particular Indian reservation we had been traveling through. We had stayed at a motel there in the reservation and eaten breakfast in their restaurant.  And yeah, I had the orange juice.  So, go figure.  I'll never know if that was actually it, or if it came about from another restaurant in our travels or even if something about Chaco Canyon itself created a bad reaction within me.  Anything's possible.  It was horrible though, not a pleasant experience at all.  But who knew - salmonella in orange juice??  Later I'd end up reading a book that talked about the way in which our food supply is often mishandled.  It's a wonder more people don't get sick or even die considering how many contaminents there are out there, and how fruits and veggies aren't cleaned and are slopped around with meat and how there are animal feces -- even people feces from the migrant workers -- in many things we eat.  When you start learning about it all it'll make you never want to eat anything again. 

So is this some "conspiracy" against mid-easterners?   I think that's farfetched.  There's a lot more efficient ways to go about creating negative messages against middle easterners than to purposely contaminate some hummus in Chicago with salmonella and infect 126 people total....and then hope that the subtle connection is established within people's subconsciouses.  One could easily say it's a conspiracy to make Chicago look bad.  Or to try to f*ck with "The Taste of Chicago."   Or that one of the 126 people that was infected was somebody being monitored by "THEM!" and this was "their" way of getting at the target.  Infect the food they're going to eat, even though it means taking out over 100 other people in the process.  Cuz you know they apparently will take down an entire planeload of people in order to get to the one in particular that they want to assasinate.     I mean, where do you draw the line?    Sometimes people read into things WAAAAY too much, in my opinion.   !!  It's some infected hummus.  It happens.  I drank infected o.j. apparently back in NM in '99 and was deathly ill for several days.  And it happens over 40,000 times a year on average around this country.
