Topic: "American wins hotdog eating contest" WTF?! Back to no news for me

Today was supposed to be day 1 - again - of no news and no media!!! ahhh! for me.  (It's been an ongoing battle....long story big_smile I already don't consume the amount of media that a lot of people do, but whatever I do is still too much in my opinion.)  I just wanted to jump over to Yahoo to access my email, but this was like the third or fourth time I've seen this hot dog eating contest/champ headline in the past day while on the 'net.  The first few times I frowned and ignored it.  By now I'm just like, okay, fine, and clicked on it to see what was going on, only to be left like, "WTF??!"   Eating 66 hotdogs in 12 minutes, then puking?  This is main stream news.  This is what people are doing to themselves out there, all so they can wear a mustard yellow belt from Nathan's hot dogs that says they're a champ.

!!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070705/ap_ … _dog_champ

That's gross.  We live in a weird world.  If I needed motivation to try to tuck myself away from it yet again, this would be it.  So now I'm kind of thankful I clicked on this story.  This is more motivation to be out of the media loop!

I really don't know what the point of this thread is.  To talk about hotdogs?  Eating 66 hotdogs til one pukes?  Stupid media stories?  The fact that we're all living in a dream world with dream logic?  The idea of what could happen if we could permanently cut out media and remove ourselves from the silliness that the rest of the world engages in?  Not only with media, but with ALL dream logic aspects of our lives??  I don't know.  Take your pick.  Some may only be comfortable talking about hot dogs here - all natural no-nitrate versions versus Oscar Meyer. and that's fine.  Personally, I've found that Coleman brand all natural freerange grain fed nitrate-free hot dogs are quite tasty myself, highly recommend if you're of the meat eating persuasion.   Some may like the idea of No Media!  No Dream World!  So, whatever subject works for you. wink  For me it'll be like my 8th or 9th go around of trying to go without media.  The longest I've ever been able to do it is one month.  It becomes hard when I'm at a really boring pointless temp job ("dream logic manufactured industry") with so much time to kill.  It becomes too easy and tempting to just jump online.

Must - find - a - way.....

YAY!  America wins again! hahaha. The best thing about that news report is that a new phrase has entered my vocabulary: Reversal. As in "he ate that many hot dogs he did a 'reversal'!"

Re: "American wins hotdog eating contest" WTF?! Back to no news for me

Well, obviously you have no sense of national pride. It was the freakin' 4th of July for godz sake. You're supposed to spend the day painted up to look like the flag and going to parades of boy scouts and veterans and whoever's running for county auditor along with every emergency vehicle from a 4 county radius (and if you're really lucky they'll end it with a flyover by fighter jets that will cause at least one octogenarian to require medical assistance). Then you'll eat too much carbonized animal protein and your boyfriend will carry a 24 pack around in a cooler on his shoulder till it's gone. That's the signal that it's finally time to go to the park to watch firemen blow stuff up. After the traffic jam, if you're really with it, you'll have driven to Tennessee for your personal fireworks that the drunken men in the family will blow off in your own back yard just after most of the neighbors have gone to bed. If the day ends with the all the kids still having both hands, and the 3 year old you've given the two foot long sparkler to didn't stick it in the 4 year old's eye...well it's USA all the way!

Over on ESPN, they talked about that eating bout all day...calling it one of the greatest sporting events in history while comparing it to the "Thrilla in Manilla".

Sheesh...Amerikans. No wonder we're losing in iraq.

Re: "American wins hotdog eating contest" WTF?! Back to no news for me

Why are you so surprised, lyra?

It's all about DISTRACTION.

Either people don't want to THINK about what a mess the world is in
or they're being PREVENTED from thinking by all these DISTRACTIONS.

Why do entertainers, sports heroes, actors, etc. get such outrageous
salaries?  Because they keep people from thinking about their own
predicament.  Their own mortality.  What the hell!?  People would
rather think about ANYTHING except the real questions of life.

When I was in my early twenties, I was immortal, bulletproof and
only interested in getting laid.  But something happened around
24 or 25 and I started asking some big existential questions.  And
I've never stopped.  But I have stopped watching TV and even
movies.

Hot dog eating contests my ass.  Paris who??

But that's just me.

Re: "American wins hotdog eating contest" WTF?! Back to no news for me

I'm kinda disgusted, yet not surprised. It's sad that an "eat till you puke" competition is glorified when there are people starving in the world.

Still, you gotta keep the sheeple distracted with this kind of inane "news"!

The greatest sporting events in history?!  They have seriously got to be kidding.  That's so ridiculous even regular asleep people have to question that.   I don't even like most sports but consider that an insult to all athletes everywhere.  !!   On the one hand I can believe they're saying something like this only because I keep seeing this damn hot dog eating contest headline everytime I log onto the 'net, but on the other it shocks me that it would be getting THIS much coverage.  TPTB really are scraping the bottom of the barrel for distraction tactics.  They are literally doing anything to keep people from looking closely at anything meaningful.   You noted "no wonder we're losing in Iraq" - true, but not only that, this amped up attempt to pummel some dumb hot dog eating contest at us shows just how badly we are losing in Iraq, aka, Vietnam II.  They don't want people thinking about that.  And this 4th of July there are many families without sons and daughters coming home, dozens dying every week over there.  And I don't say that in some emotional way - I do realize we shouldn't be over there in the first place, and there are a number of US military personnel up to no good over there, to put it delicately.  So I say it neutrally, but, it is a fact, miltary personnel are needlessly dying and many people are upset about it and it's something that should not be happening yet it is and, there's no end in sight.   So instead we're pummeled with "HOTDOGS HOTDOGS HOTDOGS!!  HOTDOGS HOTDOGS HOTDOGS!!  LOOK AT THAT GUY SHOVELING IN HIS HOTDOGS!! WOWEE HE JUST PUKED!  WOOHOO!!!  GO AMERICA!!!"   Anything to keep us from looking over there.

NO MORE MEDIA!!!!

Today will be Day 1 of my attempt at doing this again.   We'll see how long I can go.  Anybody else want to do this with me?  Completely no media?   It'll be fun.  smile    I already don't listen to mainstream radio and never read the newspapers, and I'm already TV-free, same as Tom Paine, but I still watch movies sometimes.   And of course there's the internet, which has kind of replaced the newspapers I no longer read.  So I'm looking to remove the internet basically except for checking emails and running my website and checking in with NR.  That's it.  No news.  No more putting my consciousness where "stuff" wants us all to put it.

I think this ties into something Kato3 said in another thread several weeks ago, as well as in an email to me.  About how "they" are hijacking our consciousness to get us to literally create a reality of THEIR design.   She had a better way of explaining it, I'll see if I can find it, but I think the media is one huge part of how they're doing this.  So what happens when you say no and walk away?  Permanently, and not just for only one month at a time like I've done?  Good times!

Re: "American wins hotdog eating contest" WTF?! Back to no news for me

To eat until puke is a thing which dogs cub do...
Not a thing to be proud of, the dummy face of USA.

The main media almost only to distract, annoy, create fear and corruption.

I do not see much media just superficially eventually as I still
live in the matrix
, but I keep “distance” no emotion, the
“cold red bionic eye” is used for that... LOL
Absolute distance from media for me now will cause more harm than good.

You guys are so serious...
Seriously though, I do think that regular asleep people think statements like that are ridiculous, and I mean that even for the sports knucklehead crowd who was tuned into ESPN on the 4th of July. There were no sports happening besides what happened in the wee hours at Wimbledon, so who would even spend time watching those blathering bobbleheads?
[OK that was me, but I was only waiting to see a replay of a ball bouncing off a center fielder's head and over the fence because I had a need to know whether it was ruled a home run or a ground rule double.]
Anyway my point is, even playing to that audience, I'd be willing to bet that every time they rolled that "greatest sporting event" clip, 10,000 empty beer cans hit TV screens across America, to a chorus of "thatguysafckingidiot". I mean, it's like Monty Python or something and most people can recognize that, at least in the context of ESPN. If this was all we had to worry about in the way of PTB programming we could all go out and change the world.

I do agree that it's gross as hell though, kind of like sports meets Jackass. I can't even eat one tofu hot dog without getting sick so I will not even watch a clip of somebody swallowing 67 hot dogs whole....and the water and bread part is almost the worst of it.

Re: "American wins hotdog eating contest" WTF?! Back to no news for me

I'll join ya Lyra, the TV's already gone and I hardly glance at the Newspaper. No more media! NR's Current Events is enough "news" for me...

As for what you said here...

Check out this page from an old comic that apparently inspired the "Matrix" trilogy, "The Invisibles"... (really liking this comic, has everything + more)

Cool!  smile  Today was Day 2 for me of not clicking on news stories and being relatively media free.  I say relatively because I still saw a couple of headlines while hopping over to Yahoo, but I didn't actually read any news stories.  I also plan to not even glance at magazine covers at the store.  Which I've done before, but it was only for a month tops, like I mentioned.   I keep falling off the wagon with it all but I'm not going to give up.  wink  Back to Resisting the Click, again!   http://forum.noblerealms.org/viewtopic.php?id=3519

Yeah, that it is very interesting.  I especially liked the last line about when was the last time we had a thought that wasn't put there by them?   Very true, and very fitting for what we're talking about here.  (The hot dogs thing is just a cover for what this thread is really about! haha)   Tom has the whole "Invisibles" series downloaded on his computer, so thanks for reminding me about it.  He's going to transfer copies over to the computer I use so I can start reading them too.

The eye cancer thing made me laugh.  big_smile  Yeah, that's how it does feel actually, like an assault when I see these headlines.

See in the past I've tried giving up the media, but motivated by other reasons.  Here's an excerpt of what I wrote about one of my recent attempts (I'm reprinting in order to save time and energy on re-typing it all):
___

"It seems silly but the final straw for me was the big gasp! shocking! “scandal” that Paul McCartney’s soon to be ex, Heather, posed for “explicit sex photos!” in a “hardcore German sex book!”....like, ten years before she ever met Paul, back when she was a model. They’re holding her up to the light, with a big TSK TSK! Shame shame! You’re so scandalous, you should feel embarrassed and shameful!

I read that with all its implications and my head whirled back, like HUH?? Wait a minute…...let me get this straight here…....on the one hand the media is force feeding us SEX SEX SEX at every turn…..presenting it as titalating and tantalizing, even sexing up 12 and 13 year olds and using sex to sell everything from shampoo to alcohol. On the other hand, they turn around and attempt to shamefully crucify those embroiled in what THEY deem to be “sex scandals!” and tell us that it’s embarassing and shameful.

Talk about mixed signals. What an understatement. So yeah, that didn’t sit too well with me last night, at all. I’m tired of it. I’m tired of the media, I’m tired of the way “the powers that be” (TPTB) have used it for decades to program people, and do so by using “conflict conditioning” – telling the public that something (in this case sex) is good, then slapping people’s hands, saying it’s evil. "
___

So that was my motivation for one of my times.  Other times it's been the over saturation of celebs in general, people that aren't even interesting or worthwhile being forced on the public 24/7.  Or as an acquaintance of Tom and I said to me in an email - there hasn't been a week where he hasn't seen Britney, Justin or Christina on a magazine cover over the past 7 years.  For me, I've written about it in this way:  (again, saves time in re-typing and reconstructing!):

___
"The same goes for Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson, the Olsen twins. They’re always there, every time you turn around. And I had to ask…..why is that? What’s going on here? It’s the same with a certain blonde socialite (and her “best friend” side kick as well…) whom I won’t even dignify here by mentioning their names, but I think we all know who I’m talking about. There’s no escaping their visages. Why? I only semi-jokingly complained on a message board forum about two years ago that the blonde’s mug being on every other magazine cover and all over the internet to the point of no escaping it was a “psy-ops experiment” on the population. (Even at my favorite weather website, www.wunderground.com, they had an ad that featured her face. I wanted to see if it was going to snow, and instead I got hit with another image of her.) I really do believe there’s an ulterior motive going on here by those at the top and in the know wielding the power over the programmed masses. Anybody with even a smidgeon of understanding about the techniques of brainwashing has to recognize this. Brainwashing 101. You park somebody down and bombard them with repeating audio and visual, until they walk away convinced of something they wouldn’t have accepted before. Would the mass public “accept” these people as their entertainment distraction gods and goddesses, becoming obsessed with following their lives, if they weren’t bombarded with non-stop images everywhere they turn convincing them to do so? I think not. If you didn’t know any better, you might think that there are only 20 actors/actresses/singers total in the business. Who is determining who gets to be “it” ? And why is there an “it” system in the first place? It’s a system where some invisible force tells the sheep herd, “Okay, everybody obsess about these ten people now!” Then the circus music cues and the herd stampedes off in the direction they’re pointed to. Psy-ops experiment, indeed."
___

So my recent motivation is because the media has gotten to the point of such complete ridiculousness, and it's QUITE obvious it's not going to be changing.   Things were bad at the time I wrote the above excerpts, but it's gotten that much worse in a relatively short time span.  They've really amped things up to the point where it's getting worse by the month, not year.   The month.  And we have to look at that and ask why.  What in the hell is going on that they have to bombard the public with these celeb images and news stories at every turn, to where there's no escaping it if you have internet and live in an urban/suburban area?   Something's up.  And I want out!

Aldo wrote:

How about not only staying away from the media but as well from "Matrix-companies"?

Yup, it's all related, and is about removing oneself from "the system" as much as possible.  I have ebay and Amazon accounts like you mentioned, but I use them rarely.  I have PayPal too.  wink  If one is concerned about having their cc # and bank info. on file with these companies then it's probably not a good idea to sign up.  But if one already is signed up it's probably too late, so at that point it's all in how you use it that matters.  There are people with some serious addiction issues throwing away their money and lives by shopping on e-bay for instance all the time (just read a letter in some advise column a couple of weeks ago about some woman's husband who's probably spent over $100K on e-bay, always assuring that he'll re-sell his prize catches for profit, but has yet to ever do so, so it's really a shopping addiction, filling a psychological void, etc.)   But both of these companies provide instant access to what may be much needed materials for people.  So, it depends on how it's used.  But, I can also totally support the idea of throwing it all away because yeah, it is a Matrix company, everything's electronic, it's all debit and credit and bank info., it's one more way to be plugged into a computer and the 'net and it does encourage one to spend $$$$$ that they otherwise wouldn't be spending.  So whatever feels right for us as individuals.  smile
