Kan. Shoppers Step Over Stabbing Victim
Wednesday, July 4th, 2007 at 6:50am
WICHITA, Kan.As stabbing victim LaShanda Calloway lay dying on the floor of a convenience store, five shoppers, including one who stopped to take a picture of her with a cell phone, stepped over the woman, police said.
The June 23 situation, captured on the store's surveillance video, got scant news coverage until a columnist for The Wichita Eagle disclosed the existence of the video and its contents Tuesday.
Police have refused to release the video, saying it is part of their investigation.
"It was tragic to watch," police spokesman Gordon Bassham said Tuesday. "The fact that people were more interested in taking a picture with a cell phone and shopping for snacks rather than helping this innocent young woman is, frankly, revolting."
The woman was stabbed during an altercation that was not part of a robbery, Bassham said. It took about two minutes for someone to call 911, he said.
Calloway, 27, died later at a hospital.

Not defending this behavior as it is both sad and indicative of the sickness in society -- but feel obliged to point out police have a way of pouncing on ANY and ALL who are even peripherally involved in nefarious activity. Most people don't want to get hauled down to the police station and interrogated, especially when they fundamentally know nothing about what actually occurred, and are aware of law enforcement's penchant to ensnare those foolhardy enough to "do the right thing."
What's saddest of all is the shopper's disconnect within self that allows use of technology to record the event with no accompanying desire to offer even tangential aid to the victim in the event (e.g., phone 911 and send picture).
I live in Wichita and you have to know that it is not a normal city. The people here act like zombies. I'm not the only one who has noticed it. A friend who use to live here would tell me all the time there is something extra wrong with this place. Ted Gunderson has said there is a huge occult underground here. So perhaps a lot of people here are MPD? I don't know but I have seen a lot of things happen here that I was the only person to react to while everyone else around me stared like a bunch of OPs.
T-ren...you posted the exact same thing kindkind linked to.
!
Belljar, that's interesting what you noted about Wichita....
I didn't follow the link sorry, I figured kindkind story story was on the senior citizen.

Funny you should say that. I remember seeing a program on the Travel channel about haunted places, and Wichita is considered the most haunted city in Kansas. They supposedly have a haunted house bus tour?

A few months ago, I was out with friends, and left the bar to go for a walk/buy some cigarettes. It was about 2am, and I wasn't drunk, but most people on the street were, and I saw two groups of people (boys and girls in both groups), walking towards eachother. As they passed eachother someone made a comment to someone from the other group and after a few 'come ons', a physical fight ensued. A particularly lippy girl ended up having the shit kicked out of her by a guy from the other group. She was on the ground being kicked in the stomach and chest. I was not going to jump in. I wondered why nobody's friends stepped in though.
