Topic: Strep throat

One of my mother's co-workers had strep throat and refused to take an antibiotic for treatment, so her doctor told her to eat pickles. Has anyone ever heard of this remedy before? Or know of any other natural remedies for strep throat? Just curios.

Re: Strep throat

Sounds like he's really saying drink vinegar.  wink  Since that's the primary ingredient in pickling.  I did a search on "vinegar cure for strep throat" and one of the first links I came across was this:

http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/sore_throat.html

About a quarter of the way down the page you'll see a cayenne and apple cider vinegar and honey tonic that people were giving positive feed back on for their sore throat.  Also I saw in my google search results websites that discuss apple cider vinegar with relation to curing sore throats.  So the doc is saying eat pickles, but it seems a better and more accurate solution would be to hone in on the vinegar that's in the pickles, since I doubt cucumbers do anything for sore throats.

Re: Strep throat

Don't forget Oil of Oregano.
Cinnamon tea.

Re: Strep throat

Thankyou for the link lyra.

Tom- oil of oregano/cinnamon tea in combination with the apple cider vinegar you mean? Or is there a different remedy with these two things you listed?

Thanks!

Re: Strep throat

Although I am an anti-pharma person (ironically a pharmacist by trade) there are certain situations where drugs are useful. Bacterial infections are one of them.
Pickle juice I have read is useful for esophageal reflux, that new disease that afflicts millions apparently, judging by the sales of protonix and prevacid.

Re: Strep throat

Strong cinnamon tea.

Oil of oregano either 2 drops on the tongue or
in an empty gelatin capsule.  3 x day.

Not necessarily together, but can be.

You can make an extract of cinnamon by grinding
cinnamon sticks to obtain 5 or 6 tablespoons of
powder.  Put the powder in a jar with a pint of
vodka and shake 2x a day for two weeks then take
a tablespoon of the liquid for sore throat or any oral
infection.  Kills mold, bacteria, viruses.
The reason for grinding is to get fresh essential oil.

Quick way:  buy some oil of cinnamon and put a
few drops into a tablespoon of vodka or other liquor
and take it orally 2 or 3 x per day.

Re: Strep throat

Thankyou Tom, but question here: why the use of 'liquor' to mix it with?

Re: Strep throat

I have used about a tsp of cayenne powder 3-6 times a day for a couple days and ...poof - gone

Re: Strep throat

globug---
The use of liquor is to dissolve the essential cinnamon oil.
Otherwise, if you use water, the oil will not disperse into
the water, it will go hide at the bottom of the container.

T-Ren, yes!  I'd forgotten about cayenne pepper.  You
can also take it in capsules.  I  buy empty capsules and
fill them with whatever I want to take, rather than buying
the pre-filled ones.  You can always buy herbs in bulk a
lot cheaper than in capsules.

Re: Strep throat

i use kombucha tea as an all around but it's a fermented food and it does taste like vinegar with alot of vinegar. As far as pickle juice for the reflux, it's the vinegar again because most reflux is caused by a lack of acid. If vinegar doesn't work then you know it's too much acid.(i worked with vitamins and herbs and still study up on it.)

This isn't pancheta DAVE!
