Topic: Herbs, Extracts, Oils, Survival List

Which herbs, extracts, oils would you put in your survival kit?
I'm asking for your input on this.  We know we should have things
like aspirin, iodine, neosporin, etc., to have around in case of
emergency, but which of the natural things would you also keep
for alternative health care?  Homeopathics and Chinese herbs
too.

Here are some I thought of:

Chapparral, goldenseal, echinacea, wormwood, black walnut,
turmeric, garlic, kava kava, cinnamon, stevia, catnip extract,
tea tree oil, castor oil, osha root, vanilla, oil of oregano,
olive oil, orange oil, clove oil, food grade oil of peppermint,
food grade hydrogen peroxide, colloidal silver...

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.  I'm thinking
along the lines of: "if you could only have x number of
books on your desert island, which would they be?"

It's like if you could only have say, 30 herbs, oils, extracts
to take with you, which would they be?  And also, why?  If you
care to elaborate on any particular one.

I'll bet Barefoot Doc would have some suggestions!

Thank you all,

Tom Paine

Hi Tom  i would add Slippery elm, Pau D'Arco.  Olive leaves and Lobelia Inflate, Cayenne pepper powder or tincture. to that list
Having just discovered jojoba oil i would take that too, its really a more a wax than an oil and has some remarkable properties for many skin conditions and is natural sunscreen

Emergency Homeopathics

Aconite – for shock and fever if the patient is restless and fearful. Aconite is a natural tranquilizer and fever reducer. It is also excellent after trauma and surgery.
• Allium Sativa – for discharge from eyes and nose with labored breathing. Victim is thirsty and sensitive to light.
• Apis Mel – for rapid inflammation of bee stings, concussion/brain swelling, sprains.
• Arnica – for shock, any trauma, exhaustion, fever, bruising and bleeding if the victim is quiet. It helps repair damaged blood vessels.
• Arsenicum Alba– food poisoning or bleeding from the lungs.
• Belladonna – for central nervous system problems, heat stroke, loss of physical control.
• Bioplasma – contains the 12 tissue salts and helps to replace electrolytes after shock and dehydration. Give no more than twice a day. It is used in conjunction with Aconite and Arnica.
• Carbo Vegetabilis – this is known as ‘the corpse reviver’ and is used for birds that are collapsed, limp, and cold with a flickering life force. Also used for wheezing and respiratory bleeding.
• Echinacea – fights infections (The herb version also fights infections, but might interfere with lab tests.)
• Gelsemium – for shock if the victim is weak, cold, lethargic.
• Hamamelis – to stop serious bleeding and for burns. Use after Arnica for concussion and bleeding within the eyes.
• Hypercal – minor bleeding from an injury.
• Hypericum – for burns, bruises, and nerve damage
• Ignatia – fear, fright, grief
• Ledum - puncture wounds, cat bites, after injections and vaccinations. Also for continuing treatment after Aconite.
• Rhus Tox (toxicodendron) – sprains, strains, hives, intense burning/itching
• Sulphur – switch to this to continue treatment after carbo veg
• Symphytum – for broken bones AFTER the bone has been set.
• Plumbum – convulsions that might lead to coma.

I would probably need to give some thought to narrow all these down to 30 but  my radionic remedy machine could make all the homeopathics.

Andrew.

Its not like we are fractions of the whole but rather versions of the whole.

Thank you for the additonal items, Andrew.
I'm not knowledgeable about homeopathics but your
list will give me a good start!

Re: Herbs, Extracts, Oils, Survival List

Hey Tom, I love your selection of herbs and oils. Thanks for the info Doc, really great stuff.  Here's a few things you may also want to consider for your survival kit.

Grapefruit Seed Extract is an absolute essential; anti fungal, bacterial, and viral.  There are so many uses for it internally, externally and a lot of different cleaning uses,  http://www.allhealthtrends.com/index.html

I really love the stuff from http://www.nativeremedies.com.  I use the digestive assist and it helps me a great deal with my poor little digestive weaknesses.  They're high quality homeopathic remedies, and quite a few different formulas; it feels like high alchemy to my body, it's awesome.

Also Neem oil products are amazing; great healing qualities, and a wide range of uses, http://neemtreefarms.com/catalog/

I'd probably also want a Netti Pot for the sinuses, it relieves allergies, really clears the passages; good thing to have around.  Pollen is enough to throw me off, laugh, so who knows what's in the air when you're relying on a survival kit, you know? smile

And chinese herbs are always good. This site has high quality stuff and is easy to use and understand. http://www.orientalpharmacy.com/

Alright, thanks for posting this Tom,

Re: Herbs, Extracts, Oils, Survival List

Thank you Das Mooosz!
I've used grapefruit seed extract, and thank you for reminding me!

I want to also add essential oil of Juniper berry, Yarrow extract and
Ravensara essential oil to the list.

I've just recently discovered the many qualities of castor oil, not just
as a purgative, but an antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal  which
Edgar Cayce mentioned many times in his readings.

And as Barefoot Doc mentioned in another thread, chewing Frankincense
tears cures many abdominal complaints including IBS and Crohn's symptoms!
Also known as Boswellia, I chewed one of the tablets and it's nothing but
compressed Frankincense dust!  Cited in several medical journals as
extremely effective for gut problems.

And Das Mooosz thank you for the links!  I'm going to bookmark them and
mine them for health goodies.

Doctors are afraid to use many of these remedies.  Can't risk it.  Therefore
insurance won't pay for many therapies or healing modalities.  They're not
interested in healing, they're only interested in NOT PAYING.

Re: Herbs, Extracts, Oils, Survival List

Would you add the 4 thieves solution to this mix as well?  Sorry, I can't remember what was in the mix.  I just know that there's a legend of thieves during a plague that would steal from people who had died and supposedly they never got sick.  Rumor has it their sentence was commuted when they gave the formula they used to prevent illness.  Another thing I learned from an herbologist is that people in the Lavender factory in France during the plague days also never got sick.  So add lavender as an oil or for burning like incense?

One idea would be to keep a culture to make your own live vinegar, say kefir or kombucha and add stuff like garlic, oregano oil and tea tree oil, or use something like non fermented apple cider vinigar as a base to make your version of 4TV.

Re: Herbs, Extracts, Oils, Survival List

Okay, now I've got a couple more to add to the list:

Lugols Iodine solution (see MysticalGirl's thread on Iodine)

Boswellia "Boswellin" which is Frankincense in tablet form.  Cures or
alleviates a multitude of ills including Crohn's, Irritable Bowel Syndrome,
and other GI tract problems.  Frankincense is burned in European
hospitals in infectious disease wards to kill airborne pathogens.
