According to Carl Johan Calleman's prophetic reading of the Mayan Calendar as a "timetable for the evolution of consciousness," this is the beginning of the "Fifth Day," associated with the creative and Promethean energy of the god-form Quetzalcoatl. According to Calleman, this period of 360 days is when the new form of human consciousness crystallizes, followed by a period that is characterized by the smashing of the container of the previous form of consciousness.
One way to articulate the current "shift" is to propose that the veil between matter and consciousness is becoming thinner. Another way to describe this process is to note that material reality is becoming less dense and, in subtle degrees, more psychically responsive. From a Qabalistic perspective, you might consider this period as the coming together of the ninth and tenth sephiroth, symbolizing the Astral Plane and the Earth Plane.
This may sound somewhat ungrounded, but there are purely materialist and physical aspects of this shift, which we discover when we consider the rapid evolution of technology. Technology allows us to turn more and more of our "thought forms" into fully realized manifestations, at an ever-increasing rate of speed. This is literally happening, and it is undeniable. Someone 500 years ago might have imagined a highly complex three dimensional form, and perhaps have it executed after years of effort. Today, assuming you had the resources, there are three-dimensional "printers" that will execute any form you can imagine in a matter of hours.
Technology allows the human imagination to realize itself at exponentially increasing speeds. Of course this is just as obvious with our capacity to contact anyone virtually instantly - even ninety years ago, it could take months for letters to cross the ocean -- and our capacity to create and disseminate photographs, audio, videos, etc. Among the upper and middle classes at least, the new world of social networking and digital media tools is remapping the nature of the Self, on a powerful but largely subliminal level. The boundaries and defenses of the modern alienated ego are beginning to give way to a form of identity that is more permeable and overtly relational.
I am very interested in our ability to move, at an extraordinary rate, from virtual systems to real-world structures. MoveOn provided an interesting model with their suddenly emergent offices during the last election, with banks of phone callers materializing instantly, etcetera. When the will of the populace is activated, then virtual organization allows for incredible high speeds of transformation in real world systems.
Imagine if there was a populist campaign, orchestrated by MoveOn or a similar group, to enact an immediate "Marshall Plan" for energy, combining conservation, alternative energy, and accelerated research on potential futuristic solutions into a new societal forcefield.
This is all happening without any need to discuss the more overtly psychic, synchronistic, and paranormal dimensions of the transformation now underway. But the continuing change in the nature of the psyche is, in my experience and that of many of my friends and acquaintances, as tangibly authentic and true and even more revolutionary in what it hints about our possible future.
