Hi everyone, I thought this would be a nice thread.
Post a picture of your pet/s. Here's my obnoxious beast:

Kitty in the sun:

I think she's solar powered. Black absorbs the most light of any color, and when the skies are gray she goes into sleep mode.
Awwwwwww, she's sweet. She's got a very ladylike face - looks like a person.
Here's my dog, Shadow:

And here's a dark and grainy photo of my favorite little girl, Little Bit:

Mister Alf...

Awwwwwww, she's sweet. She's got a very ladylike face - looks like a person.
It's funny you say that...I've often jokingly called her "Kitty people face" because she's extremely sentient and expressive. (which is better I guess than "Kitty pumpkin rump" back when she was gaining weight in Florida.
) She doesn't have a normal cat look about her, at all. The last time I ever hung out at Venice Beach in 2002 before leaving California I took her along for the adventure, and we were sitting on the beach under a palm tree, waiting for people who might show up to have a drum circle, so I could watch. In the meantime she's on my lap, checking out the general Venice Beach scene in such a way that this one guy finally feels compelled to come up to me and says, "I've been watching your cat..." and something about the look on her face and in her eyes and how.....unusual she was. People have definitely noticed it. She just has this cool personality. She's my little sweetie though, such a little girl. ![]()
Lyra, I can definitely see that intelligence and life force in her! Some pets just have that extra special "something" that makes you wonder if they actually live on a different mental plane than other pets.
Miss Little Bit has that spark, too, but she was sleeping when I took that photo. She looked at me with that "Wha? What the heck is that bright light you just flashed at me?!" look. ![]()
Mr. Alf is very handsome, Novice. What a distinguished gentleman.
And LSL-- your tuxedo kitty looks as cantankerous as mine! I have a black/white cat that has been a cranky old man since he was a kitten. He rules the house with an iron quick-paw, too.

Yeah Miss Little Bit looks like she was woken up in the middle of a dream...
My boy (Mourad) is bossy and is never shy to wheel out a complaint, but not generally cranky...
When I took the second photo I was lying on the floor poking a camera in his sleepy face for a good few minutes before that shot was taken. So I deserved the filthy look he was giving.
Lyra I'm impressed your Kitty is chilled enough to go out to the beach without flipping (!)
I'm impressed by the beach story, too. If any of my cats had gone to the beach, here would be the scenario:
Little Bit would have stolen every small fish or piece of bait right out of the hands of every fisherman. Their outrage would quickly turn to "Awww," as she made her patented "trill, drop, and roll" maneuver. She would then eat her catch and move onto stealing their lures.
Boris would stalk through the sand angrily, FINALLY getting that freedom he deserves. Along the way, he would swipe the noses of every single dog on the beach, striking terror into the heart of even the largest, meanest one.
Aragorn would charm everyone on the beach and snub me. I would see his self-satisfied face from the hatchback of a leaving car.
Teddy would meow loudly, annoying everyone on the beach. He would also zoom for no reason, and would pick on the weakest animal or person he could find. Otherwise he would snivel and be afraid of his own shadow.
^^^^ Well, the beach story is not as exciting as it may seem. I had just left Portland Oregon, and was heading back down to SoCal where I was going to kick around in Orange County for a couple of days while making up my mind whether to continue on to Florida. I was on the 5 south at the 5 and 405 interchange north of LA and it was about 1 in the afternoon, sunny and pleasant (and smoggy
) and I realized......Venice Beach. This is it, it's my one window of chance to see Venice one last time before I leave Cali for good. Going to Venice Beach from OC is a collasal endeavor with all the traffic, so cat or no cat it really was now or never, since I was right there, passing right by it. So I veered off onto the 405 and headed to Venice. Parked in the huge paying parking lot they have there right on the beach and was like, Ok Kitty, here we go! Time for an adventure!
I mean, can't leave her in the car, that's some craziness right there. Not an option. But not going to Venice one last time wasn't an option either.
So I put on my backpack, picked her up, positioned her over my left shoulder, and off we went. She's got a perky, curious personality and so was like "!!!!" looking all around, like, Holy shit!!! Walked on the cement roadway they have for walkers, bikers and skaters, and off to that street where all the shops and sidewalk vendors are lined up. It was cool, she attracted a bit of attention, people coming up and saying hi to her. I normally like to be as invisible to people as possible but it obviously wasn't going to happen with a cat, so I just went with it and resigned myself to not being invisible this once. haha Then it was over to the beach where I headed towards the water, but the sound of the crashing waves scared her and she started fidgeting and clawing around on my shoulder so I backed off and went back towards the road and sat down on the beach under a palm tree. I put her down on the sand so she could experience that, see what she thought of it, but she didn't move at all, just stared down at it like "WHAT the.....?!?!" and refused to move. I laughed and picked her back up and just put her in my lap, with my coat covering most of her body to keep off the ocean breeze/chill, and that's where she just sat there scoping out the scene, watching people and taking it all in, which got the attention of the guy who came up to me, as mentioned earlier.
Then people showed up for a drum circle, and that's what REALLY got her attention. The steady sounds of the drums and bongos was riveting to her, she locked her eyes on it in this super intense way like I've rarely seen. Stared and stared at it all. It was interesting. So we were there for a bit, then I picked her back up and it was back over my left shoulder again and back onto the roadway with the vendors. She got lots more attention from people, including this one kid, about 8 years old, who came up to me and said, "I bet I can guess her name, I bet it's Midnight!" I didn't have the heart to tell him no, so I hesitated for a split second then said, "Wow...you know what, you're right! It is!" And he smiled and said "I knew it!" all proud of himself.
I stopped and bought incense from a vendor and after that is when Kitty finally let out this loud "!!!" meow into the air, like, "WTH!! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS!!!"
I told her to hang in there, because I was on the way back to the car by that point anyway. But overall she did really good for a cat. Got to see the beach and feel the sand, hear the waves, watch a drum circle, and be out in the world of people.
This is our dog "Ruby" (corgi mix)..she's a sweetie!

I'll get my son to show me how to post the actual pic in the post one of these days, lol.
I don't know, but I'm very disappointed.
My guess is that the flickr.com site doesn't allow direct linking of images to other sites. You can simply post the link itself, if you'd like, or you can store the image on another http site that allows direct linking, and get the image to appear here.
Here's the link so others can at least see the pic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/62507747@N00/428203838/
Just had to share something that happened with Little Bit a few minutes ago that was so hilarious-- and person-like. I have a closet in my office that's very cat-friendly. You step onto a ledge, and the closet is a walk-in type with shelves up above. So I have this lovely purple bubble-wrap that I use for packages, and LB was up tearing it up. I kept calling to her to stop it, but she wouldn't.
I stepped up on the ledge and pushed the bubble wrap at her because I couldn't reach her. She stopped what she was doing, came and sat face-to-face with me, and had this really incredulous but unimpressed "flat" look, like "Wow. I can't believe you did that. That was SO rude." I've never seen that look before. After a few long seconds of this withering look, she reached out and SLAPPED MY FACE! There were no claws out, and it wasn't like a normal cat slap. You know how they usually slap from top to bottom and kind of whip their paw from the wrist? It was a firm but gentle sideways slap to the cheek!
I guess now I'm in the dog house. ![]()
