Oooh...I like the looks of this one!
What I've seen so far of their official website is quite nifty in itself.

Yes, I plan to see this one.
"The future is trying to tell us something." (movie tagline)
Wow, that movie looks awesome.
Yes! I've been wondering if anyone else noticed this film.
What really gets me is the spiral imagery. I had an intense lucid dream about walking down a spiral staircase several months ago and since then have seen that image in a few movies!
Most notably Pans Labryinth, An Inconvenient Truth and Bridge to Terabithia. I think its some kind of synchromystic clue. My friend said descending the spiral has something to do with acessing deeper levels of consciousness. ![]()
the spirals on his face are one example I could find but there's a scene where the girl walks into a huge oak tree [druid symbolism] and descends a spiral staircase.
Never having been to one before, I thought it might be fun to take my daughter to the sneak preview of this yesterday since she was keen to see it, too. So we set off an hour early just in case it was packed. It wasn’t. And although we weren’t the first ones there either we did manage to score a couple of great seats. (She thought hers was the best in the house but I assured her that it couldn't be since mine, in fact, was the best, heh heh).
By the way, this isn’t a movie review per se. I don’t want to write any spoilers. Besides, I’m not a savvy enough movie-goer for that sort of thing. I just thought I’d share some of my observations. Like I said, I half expected a huge turnout but in the end the theatre was filled to about a third of its capacity, maybe a little more. The audience consisted entirely of families with kids ranging from preschool to preteen. The previews included regular old commercials, music videos and what I thought were age-appropriate movie trailers. Plus there was a brief interview with Gina Gershon to promote her upcoming book and film “Camp Creepy Time”. It’s (get this)…
…about a young boy who's sent to a summer camp. He discovers that the haunt is little more than an alien-run smuggling operation. And the camp counselors are turning children into monsters, and shipping them off to zoos on planets around the solar system.
...which elicited several loudly exclaimed “Oohs!” and a tremor of muted mumbling from the darkness. But that all quickly subsided. As soon as the movie started the whole theatre went absolutely quiet without a single “shush!!!”, “sit still!” or “be quiet!” uttered by anyone and I swear, it stayed that way through the entire show. Well, there was one exception when the little pig-tailed girl in front of me fell off her chair. She was literally on the edge of her seat. LOL. I also got a kick out of a couple of comments made by the parents behind us, like when they asked their daughter, “if that ever happened to you, you’d tell us, wouldn’t you?” and “I hate it when it’s only kids that can see it!”. But ya, everyone was totally enthralled. And unlike Bridge to Terabithia, I only checked the time once in the hopes of being able to make it through to the end without using the facilities (which I unfortunately couldn’t...I knew I shouldn't have sucked back that massive pop!), instead of wondering how much longer before it was over.
Without going into any detail, I was alternately chilled, moved, excited, awestruck, inspired and tickled by this show. I loved the characters, the story, the special effects, the music, all of it! And yes, it is rife with fringe concepts and all things metaphysic (plus a few personal synchs thrown in for good measure) so I doubt it will have mass appeal. Even if it’s a feel–good movie I bet a lot of people will be uncomfortable with it, which is too bad. My daughter said it was the best movie she’d seen in her life. We had a great time together and both of us left in high spirits. Afterwards, when I asked her if she thought any of it was actually possible, she gave me an emphatic, “Yeah!”. Then I asked her which part. She thought about it for a moment and then said, very matter-of-factly, “All of it”.
So with that I'll leave you with some Roger Waters and my hope that this one "spreads like wildflowers".
Have you heard
it was on the news
your child can read you like a bedtime story
Like a Magazine
Like a has-been out to grass
Like afternoon T.V.
Why is my life going by so fast.Hello I love you
Is there anybody in there?
Put down the phone

We'll find a short-waved frequency
the wave connecting you and me

Life is long but it goes fast
the kids will have to separate
their future from our pastHello I love you
Is there anybody in there?
the ghosts are walking by my side
I feel their love I feel their pride
For I have built a bridge or two
bridges between me and you

Thanks for that. Informative, entertaining, and doesn't give away a thing! You're brilliant!
aw shucks! *toes the ground*
I should add that there are definite plotholes and inconsistencies too, but I wasn't about to let those get in the way of enjoying it the first time around. ![]()
...part of me thinks, " Ah-ha, another cycle of wake-up movies begins!", and another side thinks," They're putting this movie out to bring in all the awakened people, to spread a message...". I liked the original story...so I may check this one out...but I'll be keeping an eye out for people keeping an eye on me. ![]()
I watched the Neverending story last weekend, hadn't seen it since I was little. Boy was that a wake up movie, and a really spiritual one as well. Atreyu's journey was so much more than a physical trek, but then again most journeys take place on the inside ![]()

Oh sure, like I'm not paranoid enough as it is. Thanks a lot! ![]()

I pored over that book when I was kid! The one I read was an enormous hardcover with red and green print. I've had my eye out for an edition like that for a while now. The movie never did grab me like the book did. If you haven't read it yet you ought to do yourself a favour and pick one up.
You know, I just noticed that a story I bookmarked recently called Momo was written by the same author. AB quoted it in the Thoughts on the Matrix thread. Think I'll check that out one sooner rather than later.
Edited to correct the Momo link and to add that I think what really got me about The Neverending Story at the time was its metaficticious (?) aspect, although I only realize that years later after having read The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. (I'm not sure if that's the correct term or if that's even a term at all but what I'm trying to describe is the concept of "reality meeting fiction" and the two crossing over into each other, if you know what I mean?) Anyway, I'm really straying here. That has the makings of a whole other topic in itself.
Wow!
I highly recommend "The Last Mimzy."
I don't think that I have ever seen so many fringe topics in a single movie.
My son and I just watched the movie (the last mimzy) tonight, here at home. I loved it! It was kind of sad though that the parents didn't believe their kids. Shoogie mentioned the spiral thing, when I saw that in the movie it reminded me of the 'golden mean', also known as the 'God ratio', 'Golden ratio', etc. I remember drawing this 'golden mean' in my architect class in college. I'm going to watch it again when my daughter gets home Sunday. I have also seen the movies "Bridge to Terabithia" (loved it! Our imaginations are beautiful!), and "Pans Labryinth", nice movies.
That's funny, I rented "The Last Mimzy" yesterday. I loved it! A friend had told me she read the original sci-fi short story, "Mimsy Were the Borogoves", which the movie is based on. I had to go research that after the movie, since there was a reference to "Alice Through the Looking Glass". If anybody is familiar with Dan Burisch, ( http://www.eaglesdisobey.net ) in kind of runs parallell with some of his story.
I rented the Last Mimzy last night based on this conversation. Interesting how it wove into it so many themes - the nature of reality, creating ones own reality, beings from the future sending a message back to correct a mistake made....the way that nature came alive....extremely well done. Curious how it did at the box office. Seems like kids would have liked it, but maybe it was too deep and they're more interested in characters and "action."
I noticed that, other than the little girl, everyone else viewed the technology with suspicion.....horrifying how the AFT raided the home. with their riot gear on.
Some years ago, I had a strange experience where I was compelled to write a poem set in the future....one of peace, abundance, happiness....the kind of world pictured in the movie. By then the world that we know now...the one of endless war and negativity and selfishness was just a distant memory. But that some of us had seeded that world with deep, passionate and unwavering love, not unlike the love the little girl felt for Mimzy.
Wonderful film. If you have kids, a great alternative to almost everything else out there.

This is interesting as I'm currently reading a book about the divine proportion (phi, golden mean). Microcosm - macrocosm. An important concept to reflect upon.
