Topic: anyone know of a good book about angels and demons

angels and demons as they appear and are interpreted in different religions and mythologies?
i watched the History Channel special "Angels: Good or Evil?" and enjoyed it, but it didn't really cover much.
i want to know more about the roles and appearances of these strange entities (whether they are "real" or not, i don't really care).

most the books i find are the hippy-dippy touchy-feely new-agey "angels among us" and people's "experiences" with angels or demons.

Re: anyone know of a good book about angels and demons

Dr John Dee wrote one about 500 years ago - I haven't read it but have always wanted to.  Not sure what it's called (I'm sure Angels and Demons is in the title) or where you could find it.

Good luck smile

Hi, I'm not sure if this was the one you were referring to, leisuresuiitlissy, but I have this book with John Dee as a co-author.  The name of it is The Complete Enochian Dictionary: A Dictionary of the Angelic Language as Revealed to Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley.  It's very interesting, to say the least. Apparently it's channeled material, according to Dr. John Dee and his partner, anyway. I thought it was a good read, though I advise to take it with a grain of salt. Hope that helped smile  -Nikki

I say take it with a grain of salt, but I don't necessarily discount everthing in the book; but a good bit of it is questionable.  Another book I recommend is called A Dictionary of Angels, Including the Fallen Angels, written by Gustav Davidson.  I think this may be more along the lines of what you're looking for, (and it's not just a straight angel dictionary), you should definitely check it out. smile

Darkstar, I think that's the one I had in mind.  My friend picked up a copy, it's about 3 inches thick?

Anyway, bye smile

The best book on the subject, IMO, is Remarkable Healings by Dr. Shakuntala Modi. She's a psychiatrist who discovered that entity attachments are the cause of all illness - mental and physical. And she's right!  Because as you learn to clear out attached entities, miraculous cures take place on both a physical and an emotiona/mental level. Amazing stuff. The book is all about her case histories -- clearing people of demons, discarnates, and more, plus it's about the cosmology she learned about what is really going on with demons and angels.

Stay clear of 'Angels and Demons' by Dan Brown.....it's got nothing to do with angels and/or demons.

Why do you say that, matt, what is it really about?

Hey, Dan Brown is the guy that wrote The Davinci Code, isn't he?

Re: anyone know of a good book about angels and demons

i read "davinci code" and "angels and demons".  they were copies of each other; same characters, same plotlines, same wooden dialogue that digressed into multiple paragraphs describing some ancient order or "truth" about "the way it is", same boring writing disguised as depth, with a bit of controversy to boost sales.
might as well read danielle steele.

thanks for the suggestions all, but i still don't think they are what i'm looking for.
i don't want to conjure angels/demons, or ask for their help or guidance.

i want to read about the portrayal of angels/demons in islamic mythology; compare that with angels/demons in xian mythology, angels/demons in jewish mythology, buddhist mythology, zoroaster-ian mythology (or however it's spelled), greek and roman and norse and hindu and celtic mythologies, etc.
