sorry if there is already a post like this, but i couldnt find one through a search...  so that's my curiosity... who is Sophia!?

Hmm, not who, but what (if you're referring to what I guess you are)...

AFAIK: Sophia means knowledge, but is alternatively used as a word meaning philosophy. As in antropo*sophy,* teo*sophy,* philo*sophy,* and so on... This all comes from the greek (? or something ?) word, sophia.

Sophia alternately means wisdom, but also the spirit of the Earth... Gaia/ Sophia.  John Lash uses the name Sophia in his Gnostic writings.

According to Gnostic sources, Sophia is the entity which brought a flawed creation (the Demiurge) into being, and then hid it away in isolation. Being unaware of anything other than itself, the Demiurge created this material world and everything in it.

I remember that when i was younger and was studying teology in the university (catholic view) in some way was disscused that in the early times in the roman church a debate about the figure of this entity (sophia) was happening because it was no clear in the bible if sophia was part of God of if sophia was the Holy Spirit or its exact position in the jerarchy of divine-semidiviine beings...

For the Gnostic Christians, the Sophia was a central element in their cosmological understanding of the Universe. A Feminine figure, analogous to the human soul but also simultaneously one of the Feminine aspects of God and the Bride of Christ, she is considered to have fallen from grace in some way, in so doing creating or helping to create the material world. For the Gnostics, the drama of the redemption of the Sophia through Christ or the Logos is the central drama of the universe. The Sophia resides in all of us as the Divine Spark. In Gnostic Christianity Christ is sent to bring her back to the Godhead.

So in a gnostic sense, the Sophia could also be interpreted as the divine wisdom within us that fell asleep when we "fell" into this matrix timeloop.

...been encountering mentions of Sophia a lot lately as well. Sophia was central in Vanilla Sky, movie that relates thematically to the idea of awakening from illusion. And one of Therion's new songs is called The Perennial Sophia.

awesome!!! thanks for the replies, warriors!  i actually figured it out intuitively the other day and realized that i hadnt checked to see what you guys had said...  i mean i figured that it had to do with knowlegde... sophie... that chestnut, ya know?  all this other info makes a lot of sense as well...
