Passing it through doesn't mean you are digesting in.  In fact, I am skeptical that you are absorbing much at all in that time.  Cell walls in plants are very difficult for our bodies to digest, and cooking breaks them down.  It sounds more like your body is confused and passing the shit right on through.

Gotta second starling's post too (every word of it), in fact I don't really have to much to add.  Kudos.  (and for the record, raw ahi is my favorite food in the world)

Don't unquestioningly believe everything raw food proponents claim.  Many of their claims just don't match up with scientific research (like the whole enzyme claim, since like I already said, the vast majority never make it past the stomach acid).

Here is a good starting point for you Samiam if you really want to look into raw food (and not just read the feel good, completely one-sided view presented by fanatics).  This was written by people with a lot of personal and scientific experience with the subject too, so PLEASE, read it (scroll down to the table of contents)

Well it all depends.  Most people don't have strong jaws/teeth to chew plants down into liquid form because people started eating white mans food which caused their facial structure to change, all goes back to Weston Prices studies.  They can use a blender/juicer to break down the plant's cell wall and get the nutritions out of the hard cell walls.  I just use a blender because I think the fiber is important.

It sounds more like your body is confused and passing the shit right on through.

I highly doubt this is the case.  I feel much more radiant & alive since eating more raw fruits/greens in my diet.  My skin is softer, my hair is thicker, my eyes are clearer, and I don't have bad BO anymore.  So it must be doing something good for me.   I feel great.

Most of all I judge people on how they look.  That clearly demonstrates if your eating right.  Your whole body is built out of what you put into it.  If your eating crappy food it will show.  Girls have it easy because most of them wear makeup and concealers to cover up their rought spots, but once they take the makeup off at night,  it's another story....

Of course.  I didn't mean to imply that wouldn't be the case.  Is that the entirety of your diet though?  That is what I have a hard time swallowing.  It is one thing to eat tons of fruits and greens, that can only be good for you.  It is quite another to eat ONLY fruits and greens, that can't be good.  You need high quality protein and fats, and you just can't get that from vegetables (especially high quality fats).  Unfortunately, as starling pointed out, most good sources of animal fats and proteins have a high probability of being loaded with parasites, especially wild/natural sources.  There are a few exceptions, but eat too much raw fish and you'll get mercury poisoning, and raw eggs are just not that appealing.  I think the pleasure you gain from eating can play an important part in healthfulness of the food.  If you're European, I suppose you could get away with a raw food diet that incorporates a lot of fermented dairy, but I haven't seen enough evidence to indicate the health benefits would be anything close to enough to justify the complete loss of culinary freedom.

I guess I should also disclaim that I absolutely love cooking (and eating good food).  To stop cooking is to ignore and belittle nearly 500,000 years of human history.  That is a long time for our bodies to adapt.  Once again, you reference Weston A Price, yet seem to ignore the fact that he never once suggested a raw food diet.

I started this topic on here to see what you all had to say about what the proper diet for humans is after getting into raw food the last 6 months.  I'm of european descent.  German/French.  I'm not trying to recommend or push the raw food diet on anyone.  I really don't know what foods would be proper for me eat or you, but I feel what your eating plays such an important role in your health.

I still eat some cooked food, wild salmon, organic pizzas and grassfed meats but I cook it at low temps.  Never anything above 200.  I'm not worried about parasites.  I feel if your immune system is strong, you don't have anything to worry about.

I just want to know the proper diet for me to eat.  Could bloodwork to be done to see how my blood/DNA reacts to different food.  Wouldn't that be the easiest way of finding out if a certain food works for you or not, like an allergy test?

Re: What is the proper diet for humans, Raw Food?

In response to the comments about crack or other addict consciousness and the idea of indulging cravings... yes. It applies there too. The difference, however, is that when the indulgence involves substances that may be harmful or deleterious to the form, or if there is fear of such, the process of following or indulging the craving is inward.

We have an externally focused population, I understand, however the craving doesn't actually exist in the substance desired, it lives within the person experiencing the craving. "Following" the craving, then, is an inward process. Allow it to wash over the self, feel and "be" the energy of the craving. There is a reason for the craving that this process will reveal. And in the end, the benefits of discovering it far outweigh the "danger" or discomfort of allowing the craving to temporarily consume the consciousness of the individual.

The reason the person has an addiction or craving is always valid. Trusting that is almost opposite what the mind and ego does with such things. In fact, the attempt to deny, refrain, contain, or control cravings is the very foundation of the cycle of addiction. Discovering the root cause for the compelling draw toward a substance will yield much and free the consciousness. So to answer another question of why would mother nature or a natural force ever draw us away from something pure and healthy? Because of the learning and self-discovery it will produce. As always, the key is one's consciousness applied to the process.

Making the conscious decision to honor the craving, call all aspects of self to the task. There will be feelings, thoughts, guidance and all other resources available in the experience, if the intent is to open and discover through the indulgence. Again the stance at the onset is important. Open to discover what is there to discover, or close oneself off to discover proof of a suspicion, and your results will reflect that initial intent.

As used here, it doesn't mean shaking in your boots, can't sleep at night, or even feeling a need to warn the world (though all of these are a certain level of fear). It means the very simple, base level of choice that goes against trusting you are always well, safe and supported.

the only reason i feel the need to reply is to clarify for the sake of my ego, what i believe...

i agree with you about the fear...  but i still hold true to the fact that we all chose to come here and experience fear (among other things of course) ... there's a liberation we seek that only fear can spark...

indeed, we ARE always safe and secure and nothing can harm our true nature... but many things can harm our bodies...  while our true nature is in control of our bodies, it obviously CHOSE to let go of some of that control in order to be born human..  im glad that you are so encouraging, Sowelu.  i just dont think that myself, or most people are not so enlightened that we can simply believe in all the great happy stuff without witnessing the bad in our minds AND in our bodies... that's the point i think... of coming here...  if all you wanted was positivity, you've encarnated into the wrong body at the wrong time...

again i dont expressly disagree with anything you are saying...  but i think it would be wise for many to think about fear... and then after trying to suppress that fear, like most of us do, maybe we should embrace parts of it as teachings... and learn to dismiss the pointless ones.... these will be different for each person obviously...

ive noticed a huge fear OF fear itself in the seeking crowds...  and in myself and now i've started to except it..  im trying not to be afraid of being afraid...  that's total freedom from fear in my book...  but freedom from fear means freedom from other positive things as well..  usually im so impatient with my growth, i dont realize that the whole point of living separately is to live separately... and to enjoy life along the path back to oneness, which is inevitable...  inevitable for negatively and positively oriented souls...  only on the lower levels of consciousness does negativity and positivity seem to be at war...  i sense that the positive pole of the source and the negative pole are actually best of friends... because they know that they are helping each other learn and ultimately are essential for each other's existence...  then, when we all meet again in a unified form, our entire universe will have come one full ( albeit massive)  upward spiral revolution and we'll be ready for the next go round... which means another downward spiral.

i believe that the earth is experiencing it's last leg of the downward and is starting to inevitably bounce back upwards.

rock on, Sowelu!  keep that mind movin and that 40+ years wisdom comin!

Re: What is the proper diet for humans, Raw Food?

I like the links you posted on the raw food diet, SamIAm. It's funny because that woman named "Sarma" actually owns a restaurant devouted to raw foods a few blocks away from my apartment and I never noticed it until reading that website.

It's pretty amazing that those people actually stuck to a raw foods diet and dramatically reduced their diabetes. I can relate since lately, I've been losing weight all of a sudden and my thighs have a "burn" feeling as if someone's been working out alot, plus diabetes runs on my father's side of the family, so it's pretty scary, considering that I'm only 23 and not 67 or whatever. Not cool.

So, thanks for the links. I probably should incorporate more raw/clean foods in my body, but the only thing I'm skeptical about is the fruitarian diet. I would think it's probably bad for you in the long term since your only consuming sugar in the form of glucose from the fruits and carbs. I'm unsure if that's good for someone who is diabetic or someone who has that in their family. Must do research...

Re: What is the proper diet for humans, Raw Food?

sowelo,  sooooo cool.  You are right.  There is no need to be hung up about what you eat.  Not if you are conciously aware of the real deal.  Just enjoy.  Be grateful.    The Buddha was a vegetarian who would not knock back meat if someone was kind enought to offer it to him.

The Instincto Diet.  Just throwing that out there.

As someone who went totally raw food and whole food when my babies were babies, and made everything from nut milk to fermented nut cheese, pure fruit icecream and sprouted seed spreads, soaked date sweeteners, to nut and carob balls, hummus to sundried tempeh burgers...   yep it was great for a family living in the tropics and a learning curve extrodinaire.  Super.

But, it is not the be all and end all.  If you can do it, and enjoy it, then do it.....  If someone is kind enough to cook me chilli mussels, who am I to say no?  Thanks and joy is all.  Simple.  Listen to your body, sometimes it speaks for your soul.  As sowelo said "partake", which for me equates to "eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die".  Simple.

Whatever that means for you is good.
