Topic: "Fantastic Planet" animated film

there is this animated film (in french i believe) called "Fantastic Planet"

its frigg'n old, but it is FRIGGN AWESOME.

it is a story about how an Alien Race ( the Traags ) live on this planet, and they brought over these tiny little creatures ( called Ooms ) that just happen to look like humans, into their world.

they "tame" and manipulate this little creature humans, and Kid Traags use them as little pets.

This movie has astonishing parrallels to the entire Alien Manipulation of Humans that we are all too familiar with.

The Traags debate whether these little Ooms are intelligent creatures or not... and because some of the Ooms escaped and are "wild" some Traags want to exterminate them (cuz they steal their food etc)

The Traags represent the 4d (higher evolved) aliens, and they meditate and use technology for their culture. Sooner or later the little Ooms steal some of this technology to learn the knowledge, and they uncover some secrets of the Traags.

Anyways, its called Fantastic Planet, and I found it @ blockbuster, so i think you all should check it out.

I'm a sucker for Animated Films, but this one really caught me by surprise.

I'd like to discuss the parrallels and meanings of this Film with you all. Its very symbollic, and quite pleasing to the Eye, the worlds are interesting to say the least.

*oh, its got subtitles too.

Wow, thanks for the memory!  Pretty sure I've seen it but that was ages ago.  I'm gonna rent it this weekend!

Re: "Fantastic Planet" animated film

That was my favorite movie as a kid. I asked to see it a bunch of times. It inspired me to draw my own "fantastic planets." I hoped someone here would bring it up eventually!

Re: "Fantastic Planet" animated film

I called 3 Blockbusters in my area today, and they don't have it.  Now it's a mission.  Anyway, I got Butterfly Effect so I didn't go away empty handed.

Try looking for it online to buy.  Sometimes it's more economical to just buy something versus renting it at Blockbuster.  This way, you get to own it, watch it more than once, and loan it to friends you know.   Also, you'd be guaranteed to find whatever veresion (DVD, VHS) you need online.  Just an idea.   smile

Re: "Fantastic Planet" animated film

Our film club showed Fantastic Planet way back when it first came out back in the early 70's. It's great! And certainly has a lot worth discussing.  As Lyra suggested, online ordering really is the way to go.  I want to recommend one site that I have ordered from. They have a vast library of films that are long-forgotten or hard to find.
