Topic: Movie posters

Ok I've been meaning to do a movie poster thread because I think there are quite a few cryptic clues in todays films and in the advertising of those films. Not to mention I just love decoding and analyzing things, especially art and literature so this is right up my alley:D. I think we could also put advertisements here. There are some really creepy ad campaigns I've seen over the years.

My plan is to add to this as I go along. Please feel free to join me.

Ok here are some movie posters that got me thinking a few years ago this was before I really started to look at film advertising as a clue. I knew that films themselves were filled with symbolism. These posters seem to be referencing an eclipse, or the black sun. I'm not really sure which. All I know is that once I saw the movie The Ring, I began seeing other films that used the symbol of a circle surrounded by light.

All these movies came out at around the same time:

The Ring

The Core: Hollow earth symbolism too

http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/6332/corest0.th.jpg

Now this one is interesting. Its a Disney movie about kids who are kidnapped to work digging tunnels underground!!! yikes As you can see it uses the round planetary or solar eclipse theme again

Holes:

This one's a new and popular  t.v. show about hybrids, I think...Anyone watching this one?

Heroes:

Now this film "The Hole" was about some kids who decide to go underground on a bet and see what happens to them, sort of like a Lord of the Flies/cabin fever scenario. The poster doesn't show the eclipse symbol so much, but the previews did. Like The Ring, the preview showed the point of view of a person looking up from underground through a hole.  In a way it doesn't matter since the title of the movie causes you to think of a round black void in your mind.

Re: Movie posters

Yes, I have been watching Heroes.  It is about DNA activation rather than hybrids.  Great little show.

Here's two posters.  Interesting tag lines:

Lyra caught the fingers.

Three and Three or 33.

Did you notice Jim Carrey's fingers in the poster?   Each hand is arranged so the fingers look like a 3.   And there are two of them.   33.

Re: Movie posters

Here you go Shoogie, here's another one for your circle collection:

http://216.168.37.61/posteritati/jpg/A3/ARMAGEDDON%201SH%20TSR.jpg

"Armageddon" - 1998.  "Head's up."  A big circle looking an awful lot like an eye.

And as far as other interesting movie posters go, we have "Monsters Inc.":

http://encyclopedia.quickseek.com/images/Movie_poster_monsters_inc.JPG

Note the (all seeing) eyes.  Now, here's something interesting.  Lemony Snickett's poster has the threes all over the place - three hands total forming a "3" with the fingers;  3 kids in the middle;  three "M's" - mishaps, mayhem, misadventure.  Well in Monster's Inc. we have three eyes total, each embedded within a "W" - or "M" if tipped the other way around.   So what is that all about, I wonder?  Anybody?

(In case anybody is unfamiliar with Monsters Inc., it's about a monster city called Monstropolis that gets its power from the fear of children.  The power station factory called Monsters, Inc. employees monsters who utilize these portal doorways to go into children's rooms all around the world every night and then scare the bejesus out of them, collecting the emitted fear in these canisters, and then bringing it back to the factory.  The bad guy is Randal the Reptile wink who has created a devise that he can plug kids directly into in order to extract terror from them.   Quite telling, no?)

Re: Movie posters

All of you that are interested in this stuff, save the picture files to your computer because they tend to disappear and the thread gets ruined, half the information is in the actual image.

Re: Movie posters

Thanks for the advice Bhang-yes I've been saving them on my computer. Also Lyra, great catch-I knew there were other examples of the circle phenom.

Here's a poster that made me queasy when I first saw it

http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/4963/chickenlittlever2pw4.th.jpg

My mom and aunt were discussing this poster with me one day and we came up with some interesting symbolic interps.

1. obviously the caption-amping up the fear again
2. The "child" chicken bending over has some nasty implications especially in light of Disney's involvment in child abuse
3. The shape of the chicken's butt with six feathers sticking up looks a lot like one of those 19th century helmets the Kaiser wore or some kind of military head gear.
4. The movie came out during the avian flu scare lol

now I haven't seen the film, but to my surprise saw it discussed on some mainstream message boards as strange and inappropriate for children. The movie itself dealt with an alien invasion! But I thought  it was interesting that even regular mainstream people saw something non-kosher about it.

Being that these images work on a subconscious level it really made me notice when I reacted to it so negatively and of course being Disney I always pay special attention to its underlying message.

Re: Movie posters

Good catches.   Yeah, I've read about Walt and his thing for kid's butts.  hmm   Think it was Fritz Springmeier who wrote about it, and how old Disney cartoons used to incorporate butt imagery a lot.

Re: Movie posters

Lyra- the Monster's Inc. poster and the movie are really creepy ones. When I found out about Monsters Inc. I was like: Damn this stuff is for real! there really ARE entities in other dimensions feeding off of us, and what's worse is that the higher ups know all about it!

As for the 'We scare because We care- Monsters inc.' [we have  W, W, M] Numerologically speaking that's  5 + 5 + 4= 14 thus 1 +4= 5 that *magical* pentagram number! roll

Watching kids cartoons and commercials is also a revelation. I saw a commercial for a new toy the other day. It was a five pointed star that could spin around and light up. The commercial depicted three small children staring down at the spinning pentagram intently. While spinnning it created a small portal-like vortex! Black magic for the kiddies courtesy of Toys R Us.:D

Re: Movie posters

Hey Shoogie,  another one along your eclipse theme:  Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto", about the Mayan culture.

http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/th.d2aa35fa84.jpg

This came to my attention as it is now at my local cinema (yes, we are that far away from 'civilisation' down here wink).

The image in the paper was the movie title with the 'c' looking like an eclipse.  I cannot find this particular image anywhere on the net so far, but you can see it on the poster above.  However, looked at the official site for the movie at http://apocalypto.movies.go.com/ and the symbol is used there alot.  This eclipse image also features early on in the trailer.

The official poster's tag line is "NO ONE CAN OUTRUN THEIR DESTINY" , (nb: no hyphen in NO ONE).

On the web-site at the bottom of the home page it has another...

"WHEN THE END COMES, NOT EVERYONE IS READY TO GO".

When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace. Jimi Hendrix

Re: Movie posters

I wasn't sure where to post this, but this seemed as good a place as any.  The movie Antz came to mind while I was reading the Dragons vs Reptilians thread, right around #68:

GREENS, THE
Humans of 'normal' size, yet who possess an olive-green skin color. They claim to be from a subterranean or cavernous realms beneath Europe which they refer to as 'St. Martin's Land'.

The Reptilian race is the other extraterrestrial race that is most negative, destructive, and evil in their intent. These extraterrestrials are human in shape, however, have reptilian type faces. They also have scales which makes their skin water proof. They have three fingers with an opposing thumb.  Their mouth is more like a slit. They average from six to seven feet in height. They are well suited for space travel because they are able to hibernate. They are cold blooded biologically, so must have a balanced environment to maintain body temperature. The soldier class can bury themselves in the ground and wait long periods of time in order to ambush an enemy. The leader of this specie are called the Draco. They have special wings, which are like flaps of skin. There is a second group of their race that does not have wings. The soldier class and scientists of their race don't. In an emergency they can survive on one very large meal every few weeks. These Reptilians have been interacting with Earth for a very long time. In their home system they apparently live underground. Also in this Reptilian society are the Draco who are the winged Reptilians first in command. Secondly the Draco who are the non winged Reptilians.

(thank you, zenden)

It's been awhile since I saw that movie so I thought I'd refresh my memory.  Turns out the poster has the WTC towers on it (sorry about the link instead of the pic; I'm not up to speed on posting images yet).  Not exactly subliminal/symbolic, I know, but it piqued my interest.  Plus the plot is loaded with...I dunno...interesting references.  I wouldn't even know where to begin itemizing them, personally.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antz

And the script gets even more interesting. It's like a giant metaphor or something.

http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/antz.html

I stopped reading at

The squeaky wheel gets the oil.

And here I thought the squeaky wheel was supposed to get the grease.  Anyway, seems to me there's more to this movie than meets the eye.  Watching it again might make for a good exercise in practicing discernment.

Re: Movie posters

The Charlotte's Web poster really screams of 4th density STS manipulation. You have the moon the web and what the pig sees dropping down from it a spider. That is scary but acts like it is the pigs friend. So the 'help' from above really isn't help at all.
