Topic: Memes, where do they come from?

They come from discarnate sources mostly...seeking energy.
AS a counterpoint to the idea that they are neutral and dependent on personal resonance, this is relative because like everything they have an intent. So from a certain perspective they are and from another they are not. The intent thats going out of vogue is the predator.
There is an agenda running under the most prominent new age memes in most cases.
The function of those memes is to hook the ego and sequester psychic-emotional energy off elsewhere.

Re: Memes, where do they come from?

Definition of meme; a self perpetuating complex of ideas. According to many of the researchers in the field much of our thinking is just replaying of previously absorbed memes. So we could decide to believe nothing without proof... which idea itself is a meme. Or accept the guidance of our intuition instead of logic... which is also a meme. How can we have a working mind without memes?

We're all butterflies flapping our wings and changing the world.

Re: Memes, where do they come from?

The term "meme" is a meme.

Re: Memes, where do they come from?

Cool one, Z! wink

The definitaion "a self perpetuating complex of ideas" sounds off.  How could Ideas perpetuate themselves?

StarCat's idea sounds functional in a WiH type-scenario... in this case negative memes would be seeds planted to attempt to grow egregori for harvesting purposes; Mental Golems with orders to consrict thought and energy in a path leading back to the 'Crats.

Other memes would be naturally occuring and evolving concept-egregori, both of positive and negative nature.

How to tell them apart? Experimentaton and confrontation I would guess. but it's all guessing with me at the moment sad

What does WiH stand for?

Re: Memes, where do they come from?

I've been thinking on this a lot lately. It's easier for me to seperate the sources of the memes now. E.g. as music is important for me I'll take the lyrics and music as different  "memes" enjected to society. And let's take WiH terminology as Zejith mentions;

Theocrat memes    -    IC memes

Rap music             -    70's Rock
Rolling Stones        -    Led Zeppelin
Paul McCartney      -    John Lennon
Madonna               -    Janis Joplin

We have Theocrat-meme icons as Madonna (who I see as the most dangerous type - because she "seems" to be in conflict with organized religion but always makes theocratic music right from the beginning), Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger (still the most money-making group from a world tour, a coincidence?) etc. And IC icons as Jim Morrison (finished his job and faded away), Kurt Cobain (same as JM), Jimmy Page (still around and still making good music).

Of course these are my ideas only, but I always felt something that I could not put into words till now about popular music. Working as an alternative rock radio DJ in 90's, I didn't understand how could people listen to mainstream pop radios, so empty, meaningless and stupid. Now it begins to make perfect sense.

Re: Memes, where do they come from?

Agreed wholeheartedly on Madonna, and on Page.

Rap Music: I'm no conossieur, but a friend of mine brought some stuff to my attention that was "super-synch" in Hip-Hop. "A Tribe Called Quest".

He had first asked me to come up with some lyrics vaguely based on esoteric stuff I write about in a little newsletter. Unconnectedly (or so we thought) he brought a CD of those folks (ATCQ) to me, having lost the cd case, to have me translate some lyrics. I listened, then said "this is the stuff you wanted me to do".

He later found the cover and there was a bit of esoteric imagery on it. He hadn't listened to them in quite a while, grabbed them up on a whim, and was jazzed about the synch.

Gangsta-ThugLife memes are very present in the genre in general, as are some gooey-christian memes, but this event brought to my attention that there is much else as well.
