Topic: Chat

This may sound like a dumb question to most of you, but how do most of you guys chat online? I have been using AIM for awhile but recently got rid of it. I want to go into chatrooms and whatnot to talk about the state of the world and this whole evolution of conciousness stuff. I find I get more inspiration and more active in discussion when its live. Anyways, if any of you could be of help, that'd be great.

Re: Chat

I use Trillian 3 Basic. It can chat with MSN messenger, Yahoo chat, AIM, ICQ and IRC. I still make a point of never chatting with AIM. XD

Re: Chat

Ok. Thanks. I went to mIRC.com and found out that after 30 days you have to register it for $20 US, but I knew there had to be a free way.

Re: Chat

Ok, so I got Trillian 3 Basic now, but how do I join different channels?

Re: Chat

For irc, not including NR chat, I use "Visual Irc".  It's free.  http://www.visualirc.net/download.php

For NR chat I installed an add-on for firefox called chatzilla.  https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/16/

I'm not familiar with trillian and never use the IM clients for IRC.

Re: Chat

Like Trillian but freeware open source is Miranda http://www.miranda-im.org/

Miranda IM is a multi protocol instant messenger client for Windows. Miranda IM uses very little memory and is extremely fast. It requires no installation and can be fitted on a single floppy disc. Its powerful plugin system makes Miranda IM very flexible. Only the most basic features are built in, but there are currently more than 350 free plugins available for download that allows users to extend the functionality of Miranda IM. To see how users have customized their client, check out the screenshot section.

Available Protocols:
ICQ
AIM
MSN
Jabber
Yahoo
IRC
Gadu-Gadu
Tlen
Netsend
And more...

Go to Trillian Preferences --> Identities and Connections (or simply click the drop-down menu at the connections icons and click 'Manage my Connections . . .') Click the round IRC icon and then click the '. . .' box next to your connection (2nd field down) A window should come up showing a long list of chat servers, you may have to click to refresh the list.
