Topic: Leaky Gut Syndrome---Any Advice on Cure?

I am pretty sure I have Leaky Gut Syndrome, which developed after a nasty bout of amoebas....left undiagnosed for too long.

I have fatigue, inability to concentrate, skin problems (psoriasis on one elbow), muscular aches, mild constipation and just feel tired, unrested, and junky when I wake up in the mornings.  And really a mild to medium depression.

I practice yoga asanas almost daily, and I'm relatively physically active and fit.  I eat reasonably well, try to eat as much whole foods as possible.  Yet I still have these symptoms.

It seems wheat in any form is an absolute no-no.  All the whites (sugar, flour etc) are out.  I can feel the adverse effects immediately.   But generally I eat very little processed sugar, favoring instead stevia, maple syrup, agave nectar.

Anybody have any advice/experience/suggestions?  I'm willing to do drastic diets and cleanses.  I am really feeling defeated by this and ready to fix it.

Re: Leaky Gut Syndrome---Any Advice on Cure?

Diet is huge. Limiting exposure to various toxins. I'd suggest juicing organic veggies. Some people have success with juice fasting. Look into acid/alkaline balance of the body. Generally people load their bodies down with toxic things and overload their body's ability to deal with it, and disease results. To undue the mess the general idea is to unburden the body so that its natural abiltity to heal itself can do the work to repair the body again. I just started to play with the blood zappers, you might look into that, http://forum.noblerealms.org/viewtopic.php?id=3794 ...

You might want to browse http://curezone.org/ ... last time I was there they had lots of good stuff. I like Dr Clark because she warns about chemicals and toxins. I'm a fan of vegetarianism, and especially raw food vegans. I think it's healthier that way, but others probably disagree.

Re: Leaky Gut Syndrome---Any Advice on Cure?

Diet is indeed huge. I would also recommend some probiotics, which increase the good beneficial bacteria in the gut and balances out everything there. Have you recently taken antibiotics? That may be one of the causes of your condition. At any rate, I would invest in some good quality probiotics along with what sinaptix said about juicing and balancing out the acidity/alkaline balance in ur body. I read this book called "The Maker's Diet" by Jordan Rubin that could probably help your condition. The author went through Chrohn's disease and is pretty similar to what you are going through. I'll send you the links of both the book and his website. Hopefully, you will benefit in some or all ways from it:

Fiber.  Lots of fiber to "sweep" out the intestines and get rid of the accumulated gunk, along with lots of (clean) absorbable water.  A mild colon cleanse wouldn't hurt either if the problem is severe enough.   I had a bad experience with one of those, but in retrospect if I'd done a different, milder verison of it then things would have turned out differently.  And like proto said, Probiotics.  Definitely a must.  So yeah, fiber, mild colon cleanse, lots of water and probiotics.

Also if you're prone to amoebas, like you mentioned, or parasites in general then cayenne capsules might be another supplement to include into your routine.  Cayenne (as well as black walnut) are supposed to be highly effective for killing the intestinal buggers.

I would echo Proto on the importance of probiotics.  Also, the symptons you list are also symptoms of systemic yeast infection, and you may benefit from looking into anti-yeast protocols, probiotics being an important part of that.

I agree with the diet changes everyone mentioned in this thread so far.    I also think the zapping mentioned by sinaptix is a great idea too, you could do all the suggestions plus the zapping at the same time and really giet rid of your problems quickly.

I good website for zappers is:

I have one of these and like it alot.   Also, with this type of zapper you could get some help with your depression, since it has a mood lifting effect besides the other benefits.

Good luck!

Leaky gut and irritable bowel syndrome are caused mostly by exposure to infectious agents such as viruses, bacteria, yeasts (Candida), parasites and other toxins but may also be caused through poor diet, stress reactions and shock.  This can lead to many common problems such as diarrhea, food allergies and poor assimilation of food.  It is often associated with more serious illnesses such as Crohn’s disease, hepatitis and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

For probiotics consider Kefir, its very cheap and easy to make at home.  http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~dna/Makekefir.html

Yes, what a great addition Barefoot Doc to the probiotic part of it too! Kefir is absolutely delicious (if you like yogurt, then you will find a friend in kefir too)!

Also, I want to add, as lyra said, is fiber. Try to find a fiber that does not have wheat, gluten, etc. Judging from your post tilli, you seem very knowledgable with natural health, so try your local health food store and/or Whole Foods and others that are similar and I'm pretty sure you can find fiber that is on par with your condition. Just stay away from that metamucil stuff that you find in the average joe-shmoe drug store. Are you vegan? If not, I would add some Cod Liver Oil or any omega-3 oils from a cold water fish source. That is a powerful anti-inflamatory agent that will sweep up your psoriosis, aching muscles, improved cognitive brain function and not to mention, some pretty neat skin wink. I assume that will, in conjuction with all the tools everyone has mentioned, will help you out.
Here are two health websites that I frequent daily. Both are fine and give the general basics of great health, but don't believe everything both authors say. Take what sounds/feels right and leave the rest behind:

www.mercola.com <<This one has a great search engine on pretty much whatever you want to look into health related and some non-health related issues.

www.newstarget.com <<This guy's story is truly amazing and also has a great database on health issues, therapies, information.

Zapping? Seems very interesting and very unconventional. Never heard of it, but would like to see what that is all about. Very interesting stuff, indeed. Thanks for the link, PleiadeanHealer!

Re: Leaky Gut Syndrome---Any Advice on Cure?

I had gastrointestinal problems for AGES. I tired every sort of treatment, even did a week long fast with colonic irrigation daily. I finally can say I'm 'cured' though I have to admit that I had to overcome emotional tension I was storing in my stomach. Even when my diet was perfect, if I was holding onto stuff in my abdomen, then I still had serious symptoms.
I agree with all the advice. Proboitics works wonders, though I did not that sometimes they are killed by stomach acids. Fibre is key as well, but hydration is a MUST. If you have all the fibre and none of the water in your gut, you can sometimes make the problem worse.
A 'potion' I take every morning was really the key after trying all sorts of combinations. Take a coffecup full of yoghurt (organic is best.), and put two tablespoons of flax meal. Flax is super high in fibre as well as the 'good fat' Omega-3. Take a few capsules of probiotics and pour them into the mix and eat it with fruit, honey, or just plain raw. What it seems to do with me is the yoghurt nurtures the probiotics (as well as has it's own probiotic flora.) and the flax acts as your intestinal 'broom' as it sweeps, it leaved behind the yoghurt and biotics.
Like I mentioned, I've tried biotics, yoghurt, and fibre sources individually with little result but this combo really worked for me.
Good luck and try to find times in the day when you are holding too much tension in your abdomen....
