Re: The Music Thread

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tool_%28band%29:

Tool has long been associated with outlandish April Fools' Day jokes, such as a falsified bus crash in 1997 which originated on their leading fan site[7]. Most recently, on April 1, 2005, Maynard James Keenan collaborated with that same site that he had "rediscovered Jesus" and that Tool would have to "take the backseat." Many media outlets, including MTV, fell for the pranks and reported them as true. Maynard later clarified that Jesus was a drunkard and "a total punk" whom he encountered while "location scouting" in Los Angeles.

Re: The Music Thread

You guys rock.

I thought you should know that.

Between being able to carry on an intelligent conversation about spiritual, political, and economic issues,  AND having great tastes in music, I have to say I found my new favorite forum for sure.

So yeah I don't know how much of this has already been said, but not by me.  Tool, Alice in Chains, A Perfect Circle, Disturbd, Lamb of God, Hallucinogen, Shpongle, Infected Mushroom, to name just a few.

Somewhere between page 2 and 3 of this thread I decided to skip to the end, so I'll be going back, but first, some shameless self-promotion. My band, and some of our older tracks that we have older recordings of (ie its crap in comparison to the new stuff we've written, and the rewrites of these songs have yet to be re-recorded)  But at least it gives you an idea of the "flavor"

Re: The Music Thread

I love Tool and APC.  Shongle's divine moments of truth is a pretty neat tune too.

Here are some lyrics by Incubus.  They may be in the know.  I'll let ya decide.

Incubus - A Certain Shade of Green

A certain shade of green,
tell me, is that what you need?
All signs around say move ahead.
Could someone please explain to me
your ever present lack of speed?
Are your muscles bound by ropes?
Or do grudges cloud your day?
My sources say the road is clear,
and street signs point the way.

Are you gonna stand around 'till 2012 A.D.?
What are you waiting for,
A certain shade of green?
I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate.
What are you waiting for,
A certain shade of green?

Would a written invitation
signed, "Choose now or lose it all,"
sedate your hesitation?
Or inflame and make you stall?
You've been raised in limitation,
but that glove never fit quite right.
The time has passed for hand-me-downs,
choose a new, please evolve,
take flight.

Are you gonna stand around till 2012 A.D.?
What are you waiting for,
A certain shade of green?
I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate.

Green? What are you waiting for?
Said what are you waiting for?

A written invitation?
A public declaration?
A perfect constellation?
Remember when you procrastinate you choose last
I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate.
Are you gonna stand around till 2012 A.D.?
What are you waiting for,
A certain shade of green?
I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate.
What are you waiting for?

Excellent album... if you have the chance to listen to it, check out the Remixed Silent Alarm album, with remixes from Four Tet and M83

Q: (L) Whatchu know about that?
A: We know all about that.

Re: The Music Thread

K-Os has a lot of metaphysical stuff in his rhymes.  This song is about him getting back to his cosmic self.  "I've been across the universe and inside of flowers, but what is it worth, I'm just a man on this Earth"

Almost all his songs address this stuff.

"...But Nothing is Lost:" "Nothing lasts... nothing lasts. Everything is changing into something else. Nothing's wrong. Nothing is wrong. Everything is on track. William Blake said nothing is lost and I believe that we all move on." - Terrence McKenna - Shpongle - But Nothing Is Lost

i noticed your quote at the bottom, Capitan --- i discovered K-OS a few years ago - he happens to be from the same place as where i grew up - i really enjoy his music very much - just like so many people, i'm sure - his sound is dynamic and fresh to me because it incorporates so many elements - and it feels like it's all coming from the heart - plus his lyrics are amazing ...

i used to think his name, "K-OS", stood for "Knowledge of Self" - but on his forum a long time ago - and i might be wrong on this - but I think he cleared it up at some point and mentioned that it stood for "Kheaven's Original Sound" ... so ya - his parents named him "Kheaven" with that spelling ...

actually - it was through K-OS that I learned about J. Krishnamurti - the K connection - K-OS actually has a link to one of Krishnamurti's sites on his own site ... and if you know all his songs - there's one in there that makes a reference to K - kinda sums it up for me - so many of the things K sings and raps about in his music

the K-OS message board and NR have been 2 of my favorite places to visit on the net for some time now ...

i'm really looking forward to his new album, Atlantis - it's due out in October - woohoo !

Ok komputer - nighty night ...
