Re: The Da Vinci Code

Proof is a difficult one.  If I were to choose among those three options, I would say that the area where the most evidence could be found would be along the lines that a person named Jesus Christ was actually a historical person who lived around 2000 years ago.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

I would argue that a person named Yeshua ben Joseph lived around that time. I don't believe the person we know as Jesus today (miracles, son of god, etc...) is substantiated.

There is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people who ask them.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

The person known today as Jesus Christ probably did have a different name in the time that he lived.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

wandering1, I apologize for my misreading of your post. You weren't stating that it was a fact that Jesus was a father, but that that's what the book was averring. Mea culpa.                            As to the concept of proof, Giordano, it is not adequate to say that since there is no proof against something, then it must be true. If I posit that God must exist because there is no proof against his existence, does he exist? I can as easily declare that, since there is no proof that he does exist, he can't exist. Both declarations are intrinsically true, but result in opposite conclusions and are mutually exclusive. And worthless as proof.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

More on DaVinci Code.  I just returned from a journey through Barnes & Noble.  There is an entire section now (a large "end-cap") devoted to Da Vinci Code books of interest.  Mason Books etc.  I picked up one "Decoding the DaVinci Code" - A dictionary of sorts going into detail about the various names and symbols within the Da Vinci Code.

I had forgotten that the a key element in the book was between those Catholics of the "Opus Dei" and those who held the "secrets" of the Priory of Sion.  Opus Dei does in fact exist - has a new headquarters in NYC.  Priory of Sion is still speculative - Leonardo Da Vinci according to Da Vinci Code was a past Grand Master.

The book has been optioned apparently, with Ron Howard directing and possibly Russell Crowe as the lead.  From what I could find, it's scheduled to begin production sometime in 2005.  So, if they go flat out it might be ready early 2006.  Good timing though with National Treasure coming out in Nov - probably onto video sometime mid 2005.

The public should be well saturated with Illuminati/Mason/Templar/Codes ...

One fact I found fascinating in "Breaking the DaVinci Code" was that much of the book was inspired by the now bible of Sacred Bloodline theory "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" published 1982.  Supposedly the first (popular) book to present this bloodline/Jesus Mary Magdelene theory.

Nope.  Not the first.  A novel by Liz Greene, world famous astrologer, published 2 years earlier was about that theory.

No big deal.  Wrong <grin>  Her brother was one of the authors of HBHG and her then boyfriend the other author of HBHG.

As BB is so found of saying dum da dum dum...

Curious.

Christine

Re: The Da Vinci Code

To those familiar with the book, and its source material: Did you find any mention of the jesuits anywhere? Any help will be appreciated. A new theory is hatching in my head, but I have no current access to the books. I'm thinking that what has been left out will tell me much.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

I don't remember if the Jesuits were mentioned in Da Vinci Code.  I have come across other sources but cannot recall the names (you could do a google search), that do link the Jesuits with the Illuminati, but I think this occurs primarily at the highest levels and not so much with rank and file Jesuits. Now, I'm not saying these sources are credible- just that some people have written about that issue.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

I'm pretty much up to speed on the jesuits, it's whether or not they are referenced in the da Vinci/HBHG books that I'm wondering. Sometimes the best clues are found in what is missing and not in what is found.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

The "substance of things not seen" or faith, is not corruptible; however, the beliefs people have about it are. I'm glad that I don't need to believe in material "bloodlines" and "explanations" for things which are so pure, so spiritually high, that no words can ever define or penetrate them. Words are just pointers to what's always beyond human ability to define.
Having said that, the Da Vinci Code sounds like an enjoyable read. None of the essential "debates" are anything new to me. The debate was going on when Jesus was around, and apparently will continue until Absolute Truth settles the question.

As soon as you anthropomorphize Diety, you "make" it finite, and since He/She is necessarily infinite and unlimited in nature, there is no "final answer" except  Him/Her.
Isn't infinity enough? How can there be more than All?

Hope I don't sound pompous, it's a subject dear to me so I want to be careful how I put things. I'm all for fodder, though. After all, if someone thinks they know, then they probably don't. More likely they just enjoy the mystery of if all, the symbols, and the intrigue of "not knowing." Hey, there's nothing wrong with that, so long as you always consider the source and the motive of the author. In fiction, one can create the most enlightening or obfuscating effects on the mind, through imagery, evocation, and so forth. So watch the wizard behind the curtain!

Re: The Da Vinci Code

Well said, Sedna!

Re: The Da Vinci Code

Thanks! It had me sweating to post anything about (gulp) God.

I made a quick stop at Barnes and looked through the indices and glossaries of 4 Da Vinci code "explanatory" books (all anti, BTW) and not one of them had any mention of Jesuits.  Even though each of them had lots to say about Knights Templars, Opus Dei etc.

I no longer have a copy of Da Vinci Code - and I don't remember any mention of the Jesuits.  Although I think in his first book "Angels and Demons" they are mentioned.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

Thanks, Christine, for your kind assistance. It's possible that the jesuits didn't figure into the material covered in the da Vinci code and related books.   I suspect, though, that the society of "jesus" will definitely figure into the messiah construct of TPTB.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

Well if The Da Vinci Code movie wasn't already likely to be a massive hit, it just got even bigger. Although I'm not sure if it's 100% confirmed it looks very likely that Tom Hanks will play the lead role.

I'm not sure what I made of the book. While certainly not a literary masterpiece, I did really enjoy reading it and I think that ultimately it's good that it became a bestseller. Obviously the whole jesus bloodline thing is disinfo, however I did think the book contained more postive messages than negative.

It's awhile since I read it, but I seem to remember that it portrayed paganistic spiritual beliefs in very positive manner and that will hopefully encourage more people to look more deeply into the subject. Most people just have no idea what spirituality is, outside of dogmatic organised religions like christianity. My personal opinion is that the Da Vinci Code will turn more people on to spirituality, and that can only be a good thing.

Re: The Da Vinci Code

True spirituality IS true Christianity, in my estimation. The fact that so many have gotten lost in their intellects, vi-a-vis ego, is the ultimate tragedy for the one dimensional  mind set. Yes, the truth is simple. Simple like a mental bomb. Suprise, suprise!

Well..the ones who seem the most lost usually have the best ideas of the truth.
