Topic: Now only "eight" planets in our solar system...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/5282440.stm

Astronomers meeting in the Czech capital have voted to strip Pluto of its status as a planet.

About 2,500 experts were in Prague for the International Astronomical Union's (IAU) general assembly.

The ninth planet will now effectively be airbrushed out of school and university textbooks.

Airbrushed out with a whole bunch of other stuff...

Not that their re-branding makes that much difference.  I guess they just didn't want us living in a 12 planet system.

Kinda funny really... big_smile

Haha lol

Fascinating news!

Here we reserved this place especially for you. We kicked Pluto out of here. Please don't be mean to us. We love you.

Best regards,

They are airbrushing Mickey Mouses' dog out of the textbooks? big_smile

Yeah, it's interesting that this comes on the heels of all the talk about a 12 planet system...interesting in the sense that it is just such a transparent effort to dispell new found info. roll

The Scorpio sun sign is ruled by Pluto...guess this means us Scorps are "homeless" now lol...I wonder how all the astrologers are going to take/handle this one!

LipstickMystic/Jennifer, what's your take on this?

Ferit, you're always cracking me up, dude! lol

EDIT--I think it's pertinent to note that it was only 300 astronomers who voted on this. That's not very many voting voices wink .

That plan proved highly unpopular, splitting astronomers into factions and triggering days of sometimes combative debate that led to Pluto's undoing. In the end, only about 300 astronomers cast ballots.

LOL!!!1 OMG ROFL.  See how they keep trying to make it be about Pluto? Whether or not Pluto is included but then there's the 'reserve bank' of 'Pluto like' bodies in reserve in case they need to add or subtract some!!! LOL!

Could it be that we are indeed in orbit around a new Sun and that we are actually part of a _new_ solar system altogether?
