Topic: playing the game to win?

If anyone has any feedback on the post I'm about to make, it would be greatly appreciated.  I am in a little societal bind.  Have no idea what direction I want to take "in life" but seems like there is a game to play, an its happening even if I don't acknowledge it, and its called "reality".

I was having a conversation and someone told me the following;

no offense, you might have your ideas and thoughts about stuff but in all honesty that's not how the real world works...its all a game, and you play to win...

So here is the scenario, last year I attended my first year of University (moving out on my own, getting a job and going to school) and at first I loved University, but then that feeling quickly faded as I had loads of homework that I didn't want to do.  I ended up failing most of my classes throughout the year and ended up being on probation the following year (this coming school year).

The house I began to rent when I moved out is intresting to note.  The land lord was into "spirituality" and I use that word loosly.  She had read the likes of David Icke, Stuart Wilde etc, and is into meditation and other healing techniques.  So I thought "Cool, I've met someone with the same intrests as me, metaphysically"  and was very excited.  But of course there we're (are) still problems between us.  Lack of communication, boundry issues and the little things that are taken out of context.

Anyways, after the first year of school, I was still going to work, but just couldn't work there anymore, so I quit.  It turned out to be a "bad" idea, although it is up for interpretation.  Everyone around me said "You can't just quit your job" and "what are you going to do?"  But I remaind calm, and worry free and am still enjoying my summer.  And of course, this mentallity lead me to receive money out of thin air.
AND here is the kicker,  I began to play poker online, my brother had gave me $5 to start... and somehow I had made it into $900.  Sounds good right?

So here I am now, and I can't make rent next week and I've received eviction notice if I can't pay rent in 10 days.  A month before this time, I had asked if rent would be 2 weeks late and I'd pay with student loans, as I'd be going back to school.  It was a done deal at first but (again here is the kicker), as I came back from a trip out of town, the eviction notice was posted saying that "through meditation, it is not in both of OUR HIGHER INTRESTS to not go this route (of paying the rent 2 weeks late)".  When did someone else get to speak on behalf of my higher intrest?  It was disturbing.

The thing is too, that $900 from poker that I had won... would have payed for rent.. but I ended up loosing it (down to $300) which taught me a lesson in patience and getting out while "ahead".  So this money still allowed me to have money right now.  (So close to avoiding this whole situation!  But it seems something else is in store.. a big change?).

Right now I have no idea what I want to do, and this is what the topic of the thread is.

Over the extent of summer, I've had people tell me that there is a "real" world and that it must be lived.  And I'm am not saying that "I won't work, pay rent etc..." but that there is MORE than the "real" world.  That's all I've been proposing throughout the summer and through my actions.  But everything would always fall back on "the real world" which lead to "being responsible and an adult".  Am I wrong in my actions?  Should I be seeking a different route than the norm?  For some reason I couldn't grasp the idea of...

but you have to play, and that start of a game is always slow and it sucks

there's no debate, that's how it is

unless your born rich...

or unless your born in a poor country, then you really don't have much of a chance

... but then I started reading information and again to quote the band Tool (this was meantioned in the Insider thread)

the universe is hostile, so impersonal, devour to survive so it is, so it's always been

and I realized (or maybe this is just my perception/ attracted experience) but that the world, and people don't have compassion for one another.  Noone cares about others and only care about their bottom line STS needs. (Not everyone)  Someone at work told me that I had to much hope and trust in people (I actually got my bike stolen earlier in the year) and maybe he's right.

So my question is, is what everyone is telling me right?  Is there this "real" world out there?  I honestly don't know anymore.  I've just been doing what I've felt I should do all summer.  I haven't been hanging out with my old friends (getting drunk, stoned etc) anymore.  I've been keeping to myself and don't go out into society as much.  Have I lost touch with reality?  I still feel that all the choices I've made we're the right ones for me. And most of all I've learnt a great deal.  I know that I still have to "operate" somewhat in this world, but I think that there are alternatives to the "real" world that everyone speaks of.

The kicker is (yes the third kicker in this post!) big_smile is that I'm not scared of the uncertainty of my future, I actually feel.. free.  When I first heard that I needed to move out, and at that moment had nowhere to stay, I felt relieved.  And I know that somehow.. someway it will work out.

My final question is, do you play the game? do you play to win?

Thanks for reading. smile

Re: playing the game to win?

1.  No, there is no "real world."  Not technically speaking.  The "real world" that people are speaking of - or rather, trying to push on you - is the "matrix" reality of work, pay bills and die, the end.   It can be hard to have a swarm of sheep around you trying to pound it in your head to do what they're doing, but just remember....misery loves company.  And the sheep like to police the other sheep.   Their reality is NOT your reality.  Each and every one of us is responsbile for carving out our own - unique - niche in this world.  And we are NOT obligated to just follow along with the status quo and be coerced into living the way everybody else lives.   If they want a "work, pay bills, die" reality.....then that's their choice.  But it doesn't have to be yours.  !   The world of the sheeple is all about trying to round up as many of the strays as possible and herd them back into the pen of the conventional status quo.   There's a difference between concerned love ones trying to offer up well intentioned advise that unfortunately conforms to the status quo and then having more than one person coming at you at the same time trying to pound the same matrix sheeple idealogy into your head.   The latter is obvious manipulation.  That's the sheep herders trying to round you up and reel you back in.  When that happens you'll have multiple people suddenly expressing the same fear and control-based matrix idealogy of "work, pay bills, die" and "Why do you have to be different!!   Just do what everybody else does and be 'normal'!  Stop rocking the boat!!!"  I've experienced it myself, in a related money/work way, so I know.  So hang tight and stand your ground and know your own truth/way and be confident in it.  Eventually they give it up.

2.  Losing $600 of your $900 is just one of those little life lessons.  You'll get the money back.  smile  Money comes and goes.

3.  Being evicted by your kooky landlord who has a penchant for petty misunderstandings and issues with communication and understanding boundaries, and who believes she knows what's best for you according to your higher good is a blessing in disguise.  Be glad you got out now, before something even worse happened (!) and file it away in the ever expanding file of Interesting Life Experiences and Colorful Characters.  wink  We all have one of these files.  Life would be so boring if we didn't!  wink

4.  Keep your frequency up and maintain a confident, optimistic mindset that everything WILL work out for you.  Because it will...as long as you know this to be true.  Whatever it is that you'd ideally like, get an image of it in your mind and know that things will rearrange themselves and come together to work out for you.   Back in 2004 when I "made my first jump" and abruptly up and quit a secure job position in South Florida which was experiencing some major job and employment issues, I gleaned a bit of insight from my higher self that I'll pass on to you.  I had registered with a temp agency after quitting that job, and worked at my first assignment through them at this law firm.  Yucko job, and it's the same job that inspired the title of my article "What Are You Going to DO with Your Life?!?"   I had people surrounding me at this job doing something that sounds amazingly similar to what you described in your post.  I decided not to take a permanent job with this law firm and take my chances that I could find something better through my temp agency, despite the troubled job market.  And this was the real leap of faith test.  I knew that I just had to KNOW that I could get a better job, and it'll happen.  So one morning as I was thinking about this "big risk" I was taking, that's when my higher self came through the line and stressed some advise to me, "You HAVE to keep your frequency up.  You HAVE to, NO MATTER WHAT.  You may go as long as one month without working, but you HAVE to keep a positive mindset."  So, it really stressed to me how important my mindset was in ensuring that things would work out and come together for me.  That no matter how bad the situation got, possibly even going without working for over a month, worst case scenario - keep the chin up, think positive, and maintain a high frequency, because it has a major affect on the outcome of things.   So, I'll pass that tip along to you!  smile

Anyway, that's my feedback...

The way we develop and grow in life is not the same for everyone. Each gain is balanced by a loss. When we believe we are winning, we actually may be losing, and vice versa.  Life's lessons are best evaluated from multiple dimensions. A win at one level may lead to a greater loss at another.

Sheeple are passive achievers in an insane system. Losing now and then means you are thinking outside of convention. What brilliance is manifest through subsidy and security?

Most great thought is born of tragedy and discomfort. The value of the human experience is found in human tragedy. When we are 85, sitting at the beach looking out into the blessed beauty of this miracle, we won't be discussing how easily won-- this revealed wisdom of ours.

Haha this is funny. I also have had little direction for years, play poker on the side to support myself after going to uni and getting stoned often, missing classes and not giving a toss and opting out. Lost $1000 of my bankroll with a bet on Michael Owen to be top scorer at the World cup and have often been threatened with eviction from my dad. Strange this is, you're also getting attention from people trying to grind you down with all this 'grow up and be responsible' shit.

The 'real world' and 'reality'. Two phrases my parents love to use when telling me how to live. These people are trying to do a number on you when they offer advice. You say you feel free. Superb. Now take their advice, get a nice job, meet a girl, get a mortgage, get married, have kids and see how much freedom you have then. You scare people because you are not like them and they'll do their damn best to reel you in.  And the bastards are everywhere. I'm antisocial because wherever I go there are people who will try and feed me their stupid theories of how the world works and what I should do. It may get so frequent that you'll wonder if it's you that's got it all wrong and them who have got it all right. These idiots are mad.

Don't be a mug and lose that $300 you have. www.twoplustwo.com will be a good place to start and if you're interested in playing 6 handed no limit cash games I can teach you a few things I've learnt. www.bonuswhores.com for some more money. I love a trainwreck, how'd you lose $600? If you stay positive things will work out. After I lost $1000 on that bet I had $300 to my name, entered a $5 satellite and won a $110 tournament entry chip. Later that day I log on and go to the tournament lobby to enter the $100+$10 $10000 guaranteed. I enter, get knocked out with no money. Fine, only cost me $5. I look at the cashier and I've still the damn chip! Misclicked when signing up to the mtt and wasted $110 which was about  a quater of my bankroll at the time sad I try and get a refund but it's not possible, so I enter the next $10000 guaranteed and use the chip this time. Play like Stu Ungar, take 3rd and pocket $1350 and the universe has provided again wink

Ha, you reminded me of something I would have totally forgotten Mahatma.  When I was 18-19 and living on my own in SoCal and taking care of myself, working three jobs, I was on the phone with my dad one afternoon.  We were talking about this and that, and I guess I must have expressed a "different opinion" from the norm or something - don't even remember what it is by this point, it was 12 years ago - but MAN ALIVE did that stir up my dad's anger and societal programming!!!!   I suddenly got from the other end of the line this angry "put me in my place" rebuttal about "Yeah, well, WHEN YOU'RE IN THE **REAL** WORLD...." blah blah blah.  And he continued on with his rant, stressing "WHEN YOU'RE IN THE **REAL** WORLD...!!" all mad and full of venom like two more times before he was done.  It wasn't the first time I'd heard this "REAL WORLD" speech though....he'd said it throughout my childhood, always stressing about how much I just didn't have a clue about anything or the workings of the real world.  So now I'm 19, and not a kid anymore, and I frowned and was like, "Hey....I live on my own, I work three jobs, 85 hours a week, I rent my own place, and I take care of myself.  I think I *AM* in the real world."  It was like, HELLO, stop falling back on your broken record rant speech that I've been hearing for years.  Wake up and get with the program - no pun intended big_smile - time to play catch up about how old I am and what I'm doing in life.  I'm not still 12.  But yeah, suddenly there was silence on the phone, and he reluctantly conceded, but in this sourpuss tone of voice, that yeah you're right...basically saying, My bad. (back before "my bad" was a slang term.  hehe)

Seriously though......the zombies and puppets of the program just LOVE to spout on about "THE REAL WORLD."  They can't seem to get enough of it.  My dad fell into the zombie category, as somebody who believed the only viable way to go in life was to be married and trapped - own a home that you can't afford, and live above your means so you're always forever owing money to somebody, on that neverending gerbil wheel, and eventually becoming a zombie on autopilot who just trudges mechanically through each day doing the same routine, with the same people.  Day in.  And day out.   365 days a year.  Life becomes about just keeping your head above water, not truly enjoying being alive.   And for these types, they often times want to drag everybody around them into the same misery!   Since they can't get themselves out of their own self-made prison, they want to see their kids go down the same road.  So, I got that for years.  Why don't I want to get married.  (because i saw you and mom for 17 years, that's why)  Why don't you want to have kids (because i saw and heard how resentful my own parents were for the burden, among other reasons)  and I got the "grapevine" gossip from my brother Joe about what Dad was sayin' about me back in Connecticut...."Your sister, being a f*cking flake out in California...."   Um.  Niiiice.   All because I was living unconventionally.  Not going down the same road he did, refusing to be trapped, refusing to set myself up for a life of being a zombie in a prison.

Refusing to go along with the game plan INFURIATES the puppets and zombies who do.  So to anybody who finds themselves in that position it really is just what Mahatma said:

A person really can start to wonder.......Is it me?!  Or is it them???   No, it's them.  Trust me on that.  They ARE mad.   They fall for the programming, set themselves up for a lifetime of imprisonment, then want to see everybody else around them go up in flames too so they don't have to feel so shitty about themselves and their own predicament.   It's nuts!   Don't fall for it.

Re: playing the game to win?

Ok, Completely not bombarding you with aliens, matrix, all that other crap.. Let me put it very simply

Define "win", Well i can tell you you wont be taking any of your money to the next place, or your car, and, nobody really knows what happens then, or what could happen tommorow, i agree with the statement misery loves company but it is a sad truth that money DOES help to be happier, so really its striking the balance between earning money, which maybe not for some people on this forum, but i find work quite rewarding you know, HELPING OTHER PEOPLE, and getting the bonus of having a bit to spend is nice too.

So, if you want my advice, take it slow, do what you love, normally you'll make it through so long as you give a bit of effort, but dont forget that this whole economy system is designed so we can get our food without hunting etc, it actually gives us more free time, and a much easier existence whether you like to believe it or not.

If you really do choose to do something you love, make sure you do well in it whatever it might be, even if its something you dont it has to be done and it like anything else has its purpose. Sometimes doing what you love be it say for example music, art, writing, anything, it might take a lot of effort and a lot of hard work before it pays off but so long as you enjoy yourself then you win.

That is the only way to "win" enjoy yourself, everyone knows this but few of us actually put it into practice because of the "difficulties" of it, when it really isnt that difficult unless you have priorities like luxury toilet paper and flash cars.

And in the "me them" arguement its all of us so both of you cut the crap there are bastards, there are nice people, there are many many different people. it all depends on how capable you are of accepting that.

Re: playing the game to win?

For many, the big home is a castle facade disguising a prison. For others it is a dream that propels an otherwise unsatisfied life. Then there are the rare few who don't really need the mortgage deduction. Taxation policies build empires.

Winning may be escaping.

Re: playing the game to win?

Thanks for the responses so far everyone.

Funny the "Dad" conversations came up.  The last one I had with my dad (which is the last time we've spoken for the year) he totally insulted my intelligence, my appearance AND my current life situation.  Talk about family support.  wink

Anyways, I understand what you're all saying, and it makes sense.  Most times during the summer it was always the other people that would bring up "the real world" talk.  People would always ask "Well what are you going to do when THIS happens...?"
I always just wanted to say "Well it ain't happening now, now if you'll excuss me..." and just go back to what I was doing.

Spirit, I agree, some jobs can be rewarding, but others not so.  There is a difference between helping people,  and being a slave for a mechanical line, so to speak.  But to land that great job where I'm doing something I like to do, is my next goal.  "Do what you love and the rest follows".

Well, I'll see how my situation develops in the next few days.  It's also a moon period, should be exciting.  Again, thanks for the replies!  Helped put things in perspective.

Hehe, yea I cashed out after going on a loosing streak.

How did I loose $600?  Wow, I don't really remember... all I remember is sitting down one night at a $50 Max buy-in Pot Limit omaha high low game.  It was a VERY loose game, and this one guy sitting down was playing very horrible, playing every hand.  So I thought, "hey, let me make some money" forgetting my main rules "patience, discipline, timing and most of all HAVE FUN" which is how I won the money in the first place.  So anyways, at first I was patient, but then had a bad beat - hit a flush, board paired on the river.  That put me on tilt and all night long this guy (who ended up being up $200 at the end of the night) kept beating my made hands - higher kickers, bigger boats etc.  So that was my first bad night.. lost maybe $100-$150, after that I kept thinking about the money I had lost and didn't want to loose anymore - which of course lead to the fall out.

Good learning experience nonetheless.

Wow, you play high stakes!  But thats cool how it came back around.  Do you play a lot?  What kind of game, texas hold'em?  Any Omaha?  Omaha is my favorite, not so many swings and if you play tight, which happens to co-inside with being patient wink
and a good sense of timing and intuition, its pretty easy to make final tables and all.  When I was on my winning streak, I was flying... I KNEW each time I was going to make it, and I knew when I had the best hands.  It's cool how mentallity affects the game and even the cards you're dealt in a game.

Hey Mystic,

I think if you gave a hint or two about what it is you do like doing, it might produce some more specific help for your thread.

Doing what you love is something to shoot for, I might add, that combined with applying IT in a way that has not been done.

A large portion of industry and commercial business is only doing the same services they always have, in a newer and better way all the time, for example.

I won't lecture or anything about gambling, but life is a gamble without adding to it in my op.

It will be difficult at times swimming against the tide, the "norm", but it can be fulfilling in it's own eccentric way. Never forget the part of you that compels you to be your own unique self. It will never betray you.

One mans hatchet job on society. His writings on Nietzsche are very good imo, aswell as his ideas on love, marridge and 'poison containers'.

NM,

me playing high stakes? only in my dreams unfortunately, whenever I get my bankroll into the $1500+ range and have a good foundation to make decent $50hr+ money I do something stupid like bet $1000 on a hopeless striker or buy a $1500 mountain bike. I'm my own worst enemy sometimes. Now I play the $50nl holdem on Fulltilt under Mahatma7, on the 6 man tables for around 30 hours a week, that's my main game now. I tried a little PLO before but the variance was too much for me and I didn't want to spend my money learning to play when I could hop over to the holdem tables. I was successful at the PLO mtt's however, and entered a few of the $10 ones on fulltilt, making a 1st, 2nd and a few other money finishes. The players are indeed terrible. I take it you play omaha hi/low? That's the only omaha game with low variance. And you're spot on with the intuition observation, I think if you've a good feel for where you're at in a hand and trust your 'gut' then you're halfway there to being a formidable player. But as in all things, we people have an almost unlimited potential to sabotage out best efforts with our stupidity and lack of emotional control.
