Serving others is a joy once you learn to appreciate the small pleasures in life.

So true!

One of the small pleasures I have in life is taking a nice cool shower after a hot sweaty day in the shop--building something special for someone's home. I get great satisfaction out of  making people's personal environment a better place, even if they don't appreciate it while I'm there. I know at the holidays my name will be at the tip of their tongue and safe in their mouths.

What are your simple pleasures?

Re: Small pleasures

I try to have pleasure in anything I'm doing, and with love in my heart that's always possible.  My favorite things, however, are puttering around the garden, playing with the dogs, and nature walks.

Re: Small pleasures

Right now I enjoy sipping tea and working on my beading, making necklaces and bracelets and things.  Last night and into this morning I painted the covers of the home made dream log/journal book that I have.  It's been waiting to be painted for a couple of months now, so it was nice to be sipping my fruity foo foo alcohol drink while painting.  smile  It's just nice after working nonstop from March-July on my book.   I hadn't bought beads in almost two years to replace the ones I left behind in Florida, partly because I literally couldn't enjoy doing something so frivolous.  I felt like there was something more important I needed to be doing instead.  As the book was winding down, I had the tug to get back to beading, and used it as a motivator to get finished with the book.  "Nope...can't buy beads until the book is done!"  smile  So now I can just really enjoy it.   I also enjoy watching my cat play, and interacting with her.  It's so much more entertaining and adorable than a movie or anything on TV.  (not that I own a TV anyway....)  Another thing is going to the bookstore now and reading through books on various languages.  Latin, Italian and so on, just for the fun of it.  smile   Things have more meaning now, only because I literally put my life on hold for 4 months and did absolutely nothing but the book, either writing or research, both at work and for hours every night at home.  I just feel like I can enjoy small pleasures now, when I couldn't before.
