I'm glad this is in the humor section.

It's one thing to get 3 billion people to jump at the same exact time.  It's quite another to do it in order to knock the Earth out of orbit.......and then believe that in doing so it's going to end global warming.

I wonder if the parasite colonies that live on us humans ever come up with wild schemes like this...........

Law of Conservation of Momentum. When people jump off the ground, they start moving up while earth starts moving down. When they start moving back down, earth moves back up. When they hit the ground, their motion stops along with the earth's, returning things to their original state. Ah well, it's the thought that counts.

the earth is moving in more then one direction obviously, so would 3 billion people jumping at the same tiome, even with the law of conservation of momentum, cause enough of a momentary shift to subtely alter the rotation enough that in 1000 years it will be noticeably changed?

and this gives a great idea of how effective this would be, how much do you think it would affect you if 3 billion amoebas decided to jump all at once.  Even ignoring the law of conservation of momentum, the Earth is just WAY bigger than even three billion humans, and realistically, they'll be lucky to get 1 million. 

Now, the law of conservation of momentum could be gotten around, if that were the only problem.  Say by everyone jumping in a specific direction instead of up, and then doing a sweet tuck and roll on the landing, they could at least slow down or speed up the rotation of the Earth.  Sort of like how it is possible to move a skateboard on a level surface without touching the ground (with your body, the skateboard of course is grounded). Too bad (or good thing) we are just so infathomably tiny.

Well technically a comet wouldnt have to be that big to wipe out 3 billion people... Would still be a fun experiment though :-D

I think changing earth orbit is what the wind farm conspiracy is all about. Under the guise of clean energy and environmentalism, they're installing these wind farms everywhere. And once enough of them are installed, they're going to activate them and fly earth to a new orbit. big_smile

im not going to be as cruel as i could be on that topic, so ill just say that that is probably the most unlikely conspiracy theory i have ever heard. how would something which is designed to use the earths atmosphere move it through space? that would be like a prop plane flying to the moon. Yes, an unimaginable number of high powered fans could change weather conditions, but the planet wouldnt move at all.
