Topic: Where to draw the line?

Alrighty.  This post is about our relationships with others around us and if we should draw a line and separate “us and them”  or if that is just duality playing its part.  I have been contemplating the idea that we are all one, the idea that we - may - create/attract our reality/experience and the actual experience itself (how others perceive and act towards oneself).

Now if someone acts in a negative fashion towards oneself, for example, at work I was discussing with a co-worker why he thought that having the radio on is comfortable whereas silence is awkward.  Another guy jumped into the conversation stating he agrees with that statement.  I replied “Well I guess I prefer it the other way”  (silence being more comfortable) where he replied “Yeah, that’s because we’re straight”  implying that I was gay.  I didn’t reply to that, I didn’t even know what to say.

So my main question is – if somebody takes a shot at you, how can you say “well that is their problem, and not mine” ?  If some people attack you, what is the relationship between the inner self and the created/attracted external experience?  Can we really draw a line between the two?  Where there is really only one?  If there is only one, then why may an energy transfer occur between two people fighting?  If someone is attempting to take another’s energy (either consciously or subconsciously) they are not viewing the experience/reality as one – whereas the other person may be viewing it as one.

On a grand scale, it’s the same if we look at the people’s relationship to the government.  Where the government is taking energy from the populace while the populace continues in the same fashion, feeding off those who deem themselves prey.  If the predator/prey dualistic symbol is where the line is drawn – wouldn’t taking a step back an observing the experience be a way to dissolve this line?

Even if this awareness is present, does that change the relationship between internal self and external symbol, that symbol being negative?  Or are we just labeling the symbol as negative, where it may just be “an experience to be viewed” ?

All in all, I am wondering if someone does something “negative”  towards you, is that just a reflection of something “bad”  going on within the self, or is it actually something going on within them, thus meaning we have the ability to shied ourselves from external “attacks” ?

Re: Where to draw the line?

Perhaps it would be like hawks fighting.  If you as a peacefull pigeon were to interfer, or get to close you will get torn up.  Your best choice is to avoid the attack and the hawks, and let them go there way.

I use the hawk example as there is a baby hawk in the park behind my house.  Today it landed on our deck and sat there for a while it was really pretty cool.  The other smaller birds that visit our feeder and are allover the back yard weren't in sight, and even after the hawk left the birds took a while to come back.

If you are not a predator and you try to confront one straight up you will probably lose, so why try and do battle with a predator unless you plan on becomeing one.

A WORD OF EXPLANATION: I normally don't comment on individual Messages, but I have received the same question from several people, so I thought I'd add a note of explanation to the above. To "allow" all things is not to be confused with passivity or being a victim. The Message is talking about NOT JUDGING something as "evil" and becoming detached and expanded enough to see things from the "isness" point of view. Everything is just being what it IS. When one is in full consciousness, one can "see" all things for what they ARE. However, the Masters do not normally accept assaults on their person. There are at least two times that Y'shua/Jesus literally disappeared from the midst of an angry crowd, and the Masters in The Life and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East stood upon the parapets of a town and repelled the invading brigands by reflecting their hostile energies back upon them. You are always responsible for your own actions, and your inner voice and intuition will tell you what is "right action" if you can listen to it. There is no need to accept harm to yourself or loved ones. "Allowing" here means to allow everyone to make their soul choices and to not judge one or the other path as being better than any other. They all lead back to God.

Re: Where to draw the line?

This is a very thought-provoking discussion on the nature of relationships.

I like how you introduce the idea of duality vs. oneness.  Although with true "oneness", there really is no duality - no "versus".  In any case, what it comes down to is not so much a case of "us vs. them", but a case of "I vs. me".

There is the one "I" of which we are each an expression...and then there is "me" - the egoic version of "I" - the one that focuses on uniqueness, individuality, and "being special".  When the perceived "unique" qualities of "me" are in any way devalued, that threatens the very existence of "me", in which "being special" is of the highest importance...then comes the unconscious defense reaction.

We can turn the devaluation around and say, "that's their problem, not mine", but this statement calls into question the defensive reaction, as well as the source and nature of the problem, i.e. "it's my problem in the first place that it's their problem and not mine".  Why defend and rationalize unless we sense being attacked and devalued in the first place?

The true "I" can never be devalued, for it simply "is" and shall "be".  The true "I" needs no defense for it cannot be attacked.  It occupies no space, unlike the ego, so there are no lines that can be drawn.  Attacks, defenses, struggles, relationships, and boundaries only exist within the realm of the duality.

As you correctly state, "observing the experience" (to become the unencumbered observer) is to know the truth - to transcend the duality and, in effect, see it for what it is.  This is the standpoint of "no-negative/no-positive".  And while the duality still exists so long as it is being observed from the other, the need to become defensive no longer exists.  Being a part of the "negative/positive" relationship is derived from being unconscious of the duality and one's involvement in such.

As to your question of perceiving negativity from the other as reflective of the same negativitistic internal state, you are probably quite correct with your assessment.  As to your question of whether the present-awareness of this condition enables a way to "shield" one's "self" from external attack, I think if one reaches a truly enlightened state, the need to "shield" one's self will no longer be necessary.

Neo asked whether he'd be able to dodge bullets if he were truly "The One".  Morpheus said to Neo if he were truly "The One", he won't have to.

Re: Where to draw the line?

NaturalMystic,

I honestly believe we attract and/or create our own reality.  Most of the time is a reflection of all the fears we have buried within ourselves.  I have a friend, a very well known civil engineer, who sort of ridicules me when I discuss or mention zero energy or anything associated with perpetual motion machines.  He continuously spits out mathematical terms, one after the other, as well as the position taken by high level scientists on this subject.  Sometimes I smile and ignore him because he is not capable of seeing pass his ass.  Well, a few weeks ago during one of our outings he proceeded to spit out the same bullshit in front of everybody but, he caught me at the wrong time.  I calmly looked at him and said "Well, if you would have been born during Copernicus's or Galileo's times I suspect you would have been on the side of science asking for their immediate death, stop beeing and ass and open your eyes and mind to new ideas!" .  He was speechless and did not know how to reply to such a statement.  I continued to drink my vodka & cranberry juice and politely changed the conversation.  That was the end of his tirade.

Re: Where to draw the line?

Okay, for starters, this whole "we're all one!" thing gets taken waaaaaaay too far.  It gets taken to the extreme of "If you're arguing with somebody, you're really arguing with yourself!"  "If somebody insults you, they're really insulting themselves!"   That really annoys me to no end.  !

People don't understand what "All one" actually means.  It doesn't mean we're one pile of indistinguishable goop that's wrestling with itself.  We're individualized expressions of the prime creator source.  Free thinking, independent sovereign units that have control over what we do and say.....and that yes, connect back to the creator source.  But we have a say in how our lives go, and have a responsibility for the things we do, versus an indistinguishable pile of "ALL ONE!" goop.

So with that said.....!

When we're truly confident in our own skin and really and truly know ourselves, it won't matter what anybody says to us.  We'll just be able to look at them and smile and think, "Huh.  Their issues.  Not mine."   They can say whatever they want to you, but you'll be at a point where you won't care what they think and it won't matter, because you'll *know* that it's them.   By *know* I mean knowing/feeling something on a core level, versus only intellectually knowing it.  I'm getting to that point recently in my own life, and actually wrote a post about it yesterday, then changed my mind and decided not to post it.  So interesting coincidence to see you talking about the exact same concept a day later!

When you get to that point it's like moving up to the next level.  People's attacks or rudeness will sound muffled and far away.  Because you'll *know* who you are.  You'll see them, and the situation for what it is, and so it won't affect you.  We get upset by people's rudeness or attacks because we take it personally.  The ego gets bruised.  Part of that moving up to the next level involves naturally getting to a point where we no longer take things personally.  We just don't care.  It doesn't matter.  It's them.   Our ego is no longer so inflated and hyper sensitive that it gets all ruffled by the things people do.  It's a cool place to be, but it everybody has to get their on their own.  Someday an incident will happen to a person that will just make it all "click" and come together.  Then they'll know it on a core level, versus just intellectually knowing it.

I'm not picking on you when I say this, but in your case, the attack is showing you that you're working at a job that's grossly incapatible with who you are.  Yet, you choose to work there.  Why?   You have people that "jokingly" call you "gay" because you prefer silence over noise.  You don't treat people like that.  So....why do you put yourself into a situation where you yourself will be treated that way?   Ultimately, that's what the big lesson/relationship is here.  You're putting yourself into an incompatible realm and that incompatibility is mirrored back in the form of an obnoxious working environment.

In these times, the name of the game seems to be about realm compatibility.  We'll become increasingly more sensitive to places that aren't compatible with who we are, whether it be where we live, or where we work, and definitely our interpersonal relationships.

Be more careful and selective with where you choose to work, otherwise you'll just keep running into these situations.   Intend that you'll find a nice place to work - make a mental list of what you'd like at a job, the kinds of people you'd prefer to work for, the type of work you'd like to do.  When you interview at a place, put out your intuitive feelers.  As they walk you through the place take a look at the people around you.  Do they seem friendly, relaxed, happy?   Or are they tense, busy, bustling, amidst chaos?  How about the person interviewing you?  Are they nice?  What kind of feeling overall do you get from the interview?  These are all the things that everybody needs to start doing I think, if we're going to begin moving ourselves into a more positive reality/realm.   There's all this talk about "the shift" and "ascension" but we have to start living it in our day to day lives, and it starts by requesting what we want, using intution, and making better choices.   You can't get *there* if you remain *here.*   smile

Anyway.  That's my fortune cookie post for the week.  wink

Re: Where to draw the line?

Very good answers so far.  I'll add what I can.

There are many levels to every interaction.  The main requisite for seeing through these interactions is knowing yourself.  Knowing yourself you then ask yourself if the interaction is reflective of something inside.  From my personal observations there are times where the interaction has no reflective nature.  Someone calling me gay because I don't like the radio would be one such example.  That is an ego-robot meme that is used when the person has nothing real to add and needs a way to counter a point.

There are many worlds.  Many realms.  Many levels.  There is a world for ego-robots.  I don't wish to take that away.  But that is not the world I wish to partake in.  So I'll draw the line.  If nothing more than to let the universe know where I stand.  It's nothing against anyone.  It's simply acting in favor of myself and my own growth.

I can't honestly take the 'others reflect self' axiom to that extreme.  The other has their own world, their own choices and their own lessons.  We all occupy the same reality overall but each occupies their own subjective reality as well.  Just by the law of probability you will get someone else's subjective reality bleedthrough to your own that has nothing to do with what you need to work on.  But again, you have to know yourself in order to make that determination.

'Law of attraction', 'others reflect self', 'create your own reality' are all valid concepts.  But there are more forces at work.  I see a much more complex system of interaction.  If you have two magnets they can attract each other.  But add another magnet and the interaction takes on a different shape.  A much less direct result occurs.

Another thing I just thought of.  Maybe we are supposed to draw lines.  One school of thought says that this realm is the realm of choice.  I can't say if that's true but it makes some sense.  In a realm of choice, drawing lines would be necessary.  It has nothing to do with judging others (as long as you make sure it doesn't) and everything to do with defining self.

For instance, let's take some general violent action.  I may look at this action and define it as bad.  But that definition is for me.  It's something I don't wish to do because I don't like the outcome (hurting others).  It's not judging the other person since they are free to choose whatever experiences they want.

All in all, I don't see these concepts as black and white.  You can't just say that every situation is a reflection of something inner because it will cause confusion if a situation arises that doesn't follow that.  Although yes, since we contain all in potential, then ultimately it's all within.  It's good to hold the concept as part of self and use it in all interactions.  But, other levels of interaction are required depending on what one wishes to accomplish.  Ok, back and forth here.  It's difficult to get the nuances into language.

Basically what I'm trying to say is balance.  Draw a line but understand that it's for you and is not against another.  Know yourself so you can tell if an interaction is reflective or not.  Understand the nature of the world of interactions around you so you don't get trapped in a black/white mindset that ultimately causes confusion when something isn't quite black or white.

I'll try to bring it back full circle.  Even though I would see the given example as non-reflective I would also not see it as an attack.  Simply because I know it's an ego-robot meme that I've heard many times before.  It's just a program being run by someone that's asleep.  I can't take that as being against me in any way.  But I'll draw the line very quick to show that's not the reality I wish to experience.

Lyra:  You must have been writing yours as I was writing mine.  And we were thinking on the same lines.  The "all is one" concept really needs to be put in perspective.  I think you did a wonderful job clarifing what I was thinking.

I agree.  Thankfully, that was my last shift, and I am free from that place. wink  I've felt for awhile that the work environment wasn't for me.  I feel though, that I had to talk about certain ideas around there, to help some others see that "there may be another way".  Intrestingly enough, while working there I met one person who believed that "Only 1% of the worlds population can become self-aware", another who supported capitalism, George Bush and Canada's new prime minister, three people who thought that WW3 is inevitable/that the world cannot be healed and it shall always be this way, while the boss had begun his "spiritual" journey reading books on the subject (mostly The Celestine Prophecy) but we had a few discussion on free will/reincarnation while a few people understood the corporate America/Illuminati conspiracy.  So it has been quite an experience seeing other people's views on the subject of life.

Re: Where to draw the line?

This is your journey, this sojourn through the perceptions of your world. If you are to grow, you will want to see those parts of you which are fragmented and lost to your consciousness.. Each lesson is valuable; each day has meaning; every valuable moment increases your awareness. Do not avoid those opportunities placed in your path--for these are the reflections of the human soul; each fragment, a slice of the whole of God. Value what you will, and discard nothing, for each is an important piece in the puzzle of life.

Have gratitude for rejection; without it you would blindly wander amougst those who give you little insight into your greater being. Have compassion for those lost fragments of God, and be aware that you also reflect the lost parts of others. Embrace rejection with acceptance; gladly own those parts of you that are revealed in others; pay attention to the deeper hidden secrets which they reveal beneath the outer image of composure; forgive yourself, and be a glad  receiver of wisdom.

Re: Where to draw the line?

Great comments all around. I would just add two things. First, "you" do not end where your body ends. Awareness and consciousness have no boundaries. The awareness of all things overlaps, between and beyond time and space. Don't get caught up in the ego, that part of your self that has boundaries and fights against other consciousness to protect those boundaries. If you sit alone quietly for a moment, you can will your consciousness to expand outward from your body a few feet, a few miles, or a few lightyears, on so infinitely. Go ahead and try it, give your awareness some breathing room. Spread it out instead of being unconsciously defensive of itself, tucked away inside your meat-body. But you must be willing to share the space with everything else around you. If you do this you will feel the beingness of the things around you, whether it's a "person" or an "object", they are the same thing and embued with the same essence. Consciousness is only limited by form. Beyond form there are no limits, and at that point, which is right now, there is nothing separating your awareness from the awareness of everything around you. It's just your conscious focus at this moment that's causing the sense of separation.

Secondly, consider this. Suppose you're sitting at home and you hear the phone ring. As you hurry over to answer it, you stub your toe on a chair. What do you do? Do you get angry at the chair and curse it? Shove it out of your way in a fit of frustration? Pick it up and throw it aside? The chair was just there, being itself. It did not do anything to you. It was just being a chair. Would you hold resentment against a chair because it got in your way? Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it? And yet, we do this when people get in "our way" (the ego's way). Why would you be resentful toward an entity for being what they are? They are just being, like you are being. By resentfulness I'm speaking of that sense of separation. Ideas are what separates stuff. As long as you are caught up in ideas and thinking and ego you'll feel that separation. Keep your thinking mind under control. Don't let it drag you around from one thought to the next, from one "goal" to the next. You can have peace and understanding within your existence right now, if you wish to. Just *feel* what's around you.
