Topic: Mass to energy and applications

I've been pondering. The energy held in a kilo of mass = 9x10^16 joules Or enough to burn a 100 watt lamp for 28.5 million years.

Imagine if one had the ability to convert ones internal mass (fat for example) into pure energy, one human has enough mass to sustain the worlds power production for a very long time.

So, 1 kilo of mass = 28.500.000 Watt-years Or 28.500 kilowatts or 28,5 megawatts.

so the average 80 kilo person is 80 times that

2.280.000.000 watt years or 2.280.000 kilowatts or 2.280 megawatts or 2,280 gigawatts.

So one fairly average guy has enough energy to 2,2 gigawatt years. That is, to produce 2,2gigawatts for 2 years

To put that in comparison

2.1 GW - Tech: peak power generation of Aswan Dam

3 GW - Tech: approximate peak power generation of the world's largest nuclear reactor

I could be completely wrong as i remeber that one human has enough mass to power the whole plant but that seems to be incorrect. If someone has a more accurate source then correctios are welcome

The point behind this is that imagine if you somehow gain the power to freely convert your own weight into energy. That would mean in practicality that by spending a couple of grams of your bodyweight and converting that into energy you could superheat a cup of hydrogen so high that it would cause a thermal-fusion detonation (nuclear explosion)...

So lets get cranking our minds and learnign of ways to convert our physical energy to something else tongue

Thinking that if a mountain has a mass of 100.000.000 kilos, the weight of gravity is 9.8m/s and energy of an object is the weight times speed which is (300.000.000m/s) So with a kilo of of your bodymass you could lift up for 1 second an object which is 100.000.000 times heavier than the mass you used. Mustard seed and mountains tongue

This is, ofcourse, assuming that i know anything of physics big_smile

So creating things like walking on water oughta be real easy as you only need to lift your own weight while spending an infinitely small amount of your own bodymass. That ofcourse, is assuming you get a 100% mass to energy conversion rate tongue

Really cool topic, Hkelukka!  The problem with converting mass into energy lies in the method, which brings us back to chemistry and the key to the future of successful energy conversion (imho) is understanding the dynamics of the particles themselves (getting deeper into quantum mechanics and applying that knowledge to chemical reactions).  Currently, we only use destructive methods to "manufacture" energy... mainly fire (fission.. breaking molecules apart to release energy). Burning natural resources is the quick & easy caveman method.  The science for clean, stable and more efficient (non destructive) energy already exists (ie. Nikola Tesla), and I believe cold fusion has been successfully achieved, although the information would never be available to us lay people.  The crazy obsession of money is too overpowering to those lizards that "control" information for the masses.  See, the hidden agenda is still very Matrix-like (the movie)... We, as a mass of humans, create more energy (both physical and metaphysical) by continuing with the same destructive use of "modern technology" (that was supposed to make our lives easier so we could have more leisure time)...in order to cause more stress and have less time for us to think clearly... because *gasp*... if people had more time on their hands, they might actually be able to begin thinking for themselves.... and they just can't have that.  The government actually spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year on propaganda for the US civilian population. (yes, I know that for a fact... father used to be in psy-ops)

I can just see the insane advertising campaign for liposuction, too!.... "C'mon baby, light my fire..." lol Fat people would be all the rage... Fast food industries would flourish even more than they already are... The average life expectancy would plummet, and I have a feeling that everyone would be fine with that.... "Soilent green is people...."  *cringe*  But the problem of "over population" would be solved... *double cringe*

But back to the question at hand.... My first instinct in determining the best energy source in any given environment is to look at what there's the most of.... In the Earth's case, it's water... Salt Water, to be more specific.... Salt Water is HIGHLY conductive (for electricity).... Now, I'm not a scientist (not by a long shot), but I think we should be able to develop a method of extracting energy from the Oceans in a way that will not negatively affect any life forms (either terra or aqua).

I have come across some information that this process is already being looked at.... it's called Osmotic Energy. http://exergy.se/goran/cng/alten/proj/97/o/
But, again, the web page states: "The major fact when it comes to the disadvantages is the high cost. Osmotic-produced power is much more expensive than for example fossil fuels. There are also engineering problems to be overcome."
Gee, we always come back to that little green demon (money)... big surprise.  Money is a fiction created by man.... and a self-imposed limitation that will eventually lead us to our destruction... oh wait.. that's already happening... silly me, I forgot.  (sorry for the sarcasm, but I really despise the entire backwards idea of currency on this planet)

*stepping unceremoniously off her soap box*

Anywho.... I still believe that the key to energy lies in our oceans (in one form or another wink )  Wish I was more proficient in molecular physics, so that I could devise a protype, but I don't think that's in the cards for me.... If things get to the point of Matrix-land, tho, I'll be in line behind CortexVortex! tongue

Re: Mass to energy and applications

Well, what I have to say is that we should start by trying to "live on light".

Yes, that's all.

The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

Re: Mass to energy and applications

There are probably as many ways to create/ transfer energy as can be imagined.

So many different techniques for extraction of energy from nearly limitless sources, and yet here we are in the 21st century stone age.

The sad reality is, when anything novel and revolutionary begins to reach critical mass, it will be "pulled".

By whatever alphabet agency, or strictly by corporate interests.

I can imagine what a different world we would live in using all of the methods and devices which have been supressed.

If we could do something like phase-shift (?) dark matter, pull energy from
the aether (yes supposedly it has been done- I'll believe it when I see it) and repolarize it at will, think of all the transmission lines (hi tension and home wiring) that would be eliminated. If every home only required a small 'generator' , there would never be a power outage issue.

For all the utilities to sell devices like this (assuming they exist and function) would be every bit as profitable, albeit a one time sale as opposed to being robbed monthly.

I for one think other nefarious forces
are at work to maintain the status quo on the surface world.

I seem to remember reading (Branton files perhaps) that some other races did indeed feed off radiation of whatever variety, as a form of loosh I guess.

I'm veering here I apologize, but Hkelukka, I do think some of the ideas like the one you presented in this thread already exist- in human hands or otherwise.......

Re: Mass to energy and applications

I do believe that they are possible and that energy generation out of "thin air" is very easy. Even if one dosnt believe in the possibility of forbidden technology that humanity has, even at the moment there are several ways produce enough energy for the whole humanity if we only made the effort to do so. But we dont and the simple reason for that war and separation is what humanity wants. We lack the integration as a species to really know what we have. "The left hand dosnt know what the right hand is doing". And our system built on war and suffering is so only because we desire for it to be so. It is a great way to spend time and learn some things. But all that aside. Technically, if we can get our hands on antimatter we can use that to convert matter to pure energy. And as our minds can obviously create things. Like turning the PH value of water by thinking bout it and so forth. We can probably create antimatter and use that to "collide" with the layer of dead cells on the surface of our hands and thus generate energy in the hands. But the situation is a bit dicy in the way that it requires alot of antimatter to cause anything and to create it requires energy from within ourselfs. So what we would possibly need is bigger than the amount of energy we can generate. Tho i am curious as to how we can really increase our energy potential. I know of a few ways but they too are fairly subjective in their increase of power so what i would want to figure out is if i am correct in my theories about increasing the power of a human.

I'll be happy when i can move objects with my mind. Tho that is very dangerous in that if you become angry you can just close off an artery in a persons brain and kill them with no signs of you ever doing it. And we have all been angry at some point with someone so it is a power i might not want to have. I would prefer being able to levitate tongue
