What was/is your preferred game ?

For me I always loved the Ultima Series(1 to 9).
I started playing Ultima 1 +- in 1985 with my Atari 800XL. Heheehhe old times smile
Ultima 7 Part 2 was the best and Ultima 9 also impressive.
The graphics(at the time), the game story plot and the music WoW!
You play as the Avatar, the good guy from Earth to save Britannia(most of the time)
curious, the last one Ultima 9 the title name is Ascension

Lots of info about Ultima series

Ultima music:

To have a taste of the good music Ultima had, get this

We can still play old Ultima 7 with our modem computers!
Windows – Linux – MAC OSX    http://exult.sourceforge.net/

Ohh, Ultima UnderWorld was good too and there is a “modern
incarnation" named ‘Arx Fatalis’(not based on Ultima Story plot)  http://www.arxfatalis-online.com

One of the cities in Ultima was Skara Brae, the true Skara Brae existed
look here http://www.orkneyjar.com/history/skarabrae/index.html
well, I liked the name so much that I named my ex small business Skara Brae. smile

I also like very much the Thief Series(1 to 3), the last one
‘Thief: Deadly Shadows’ in the abandoned asylum part(The Shalebridge Cradle)
was the creepiest game I ever played, terrific atmosphere truly… hehehehe

More info on the Thief series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thief_(com … me_series)

Re: What was/is your preferred video game ?

Hey, good topic!  The first most memorable game to me is Shining Force 2 for the Sega Genesis.
And just like you meantioned... old games have the best tunes!

Well this is the amazing game!

http://www.videogameconnection.com/images/GENshiningforce2box.jpg

It's a tactics game (move players like a chess board] and its awesome because you start out with three characters, and along your journy you meet other characters that join the "shining force" and your in search of a princess taken by one of the three ancient greater devils named Zeon.  It's a great fantasy game!

The other game is Earthbound for the Super Nintendo... one of the best stories ever.

Q: (L) Whatchu know about that?
A: We know all about that.

Re: What was/is your preferred video game ?

Half-Life 2 and Counter Strike: Source, flight/combat sims like Pacific Fighters, and I used to have ROMS for various old school games and systems.

Re: What was/is your preferred video game ?

On my Amiga 500, I think my favourites definately Sensible Soccer.

On the Sega, Micro Machines 8 players on 4 controllers at school, happy days. 1 driver would have half the controller you know? <A> was turn left <B> was brakes <C> was turn right and the accelerator was down all the time.

Final Fantasy on the PS1 was probably one of my favourite games ever.

Re: What was/is your preferred video game ?

Hi Pictus!  The Longest Journey now has a sequel out, too.  Also, Zanzarah has action as well as adventure, but is very reminiscent of TLJ.

Another great adventure game series I forgot to add is Gabriel Knight.  It has a lot of humor, but a darker twist.

Re: What was/is your preferred video game ?

I never got the dark, epic games.   I realized after my last post that I've always just like the fun, cartoony games that have a kid-like mentality to them.  Life is dark enough....do we really need to further program ourselves with morbid, dark games where people shoot up other characters, blow shit up, and tangle with demons and stuff?  Those kind of games (to me) kill the kid inside people.  All the TPTB have to do is create the games and sell them.....the public does the rest by buying them, playing them and then effectively helping to program themselves and kill their inner kid.  sad   I researched some of the games mentioned here, and while I can see the appeal of how they involve "solving" mysteries and puzzles, tracking clues amongst a sea of bizarre and crazy characters, or being on some epic adventure, the overall vibe and elements that make up the games however are dark, involving murder, deception, phantasmic nightmares, twisted characters and all that.   Yeah, like THAT'S reality.   I don't know about anybody here, but not only does that NOT represent my reality, it also doesn't represent where I'm trying to go.  Games like that just  program the masses to think in a way that is not natural to human nature.   Throughout humanity's history we've been continually manipulated though by dark forces to be who we actually aren't.  This is just one more giant extention  of that into the modern world.   If left to our own devises we wouldn't gravitate to material like this.  It's all programming.   Negative, dark, demonic.  All wrapped up in an intriguing alluring puzzle mystery or epic adventure.  Keep humanity's focus on the dark and demonic instead of aiming for the light.  Oh, but these games are so fun!  They're escapism!  It's just a GAME.   No, it's programming.  If it involves you picking up a gun and killing people, blowing shit up, and purposely going into a twisted dark world to interact with twisted, dark characters then it's programming.

Anyway, that's just my opinion though.  Don't take it personally anybody... !

Yup, the key word there is escapism.
Man there's so much more in the universe to experience. That's one thing I've learnt.
