Re: The Music Thread

songs of the day:

K-OS - Patience

        &

Beef - BDP, check the lyrics:

Beef – what a relief,
When will this poisonous product cease?
This is another public service announcement,
You can believe it, or you can doubt it,
Let us begin now with the cow;
The way it gets to your plate and how,
The cow doesn’t grow fast enough for man,
So through his greed he makes a faster plan,
He has drugs to make the cow grow quicker,
Through the stress the cow gets sicker,
21 different drugs are pumped,
into the cow in one big lump,
so just before it dies, it cries,
in the slaughter-house full of germs and flies,
off with the head, they pack it, drain it and card? it,
and there it is, in your local super market,
red and bloody, a corpse neatly packed,
and you wonder about heart attacks,
come on now man, let’s be for real,
you are what you eat is the way I feel,
but the food and drug administration,
will tell you meat is the perfect combination
see cows live under fear and stress,
tryin’ to think what’s gonna happen next,
fear and stress can become part of you,
in your cells and blood, this is true,
so when the cow is killed, believe it,
you preserve those cells, you freeze it,
thaw it out with the blood and season it,
then you sit down and begin eatin’ it,
in your body, its structure becomes your structure,
all the fear and stress of another,
any drug is addicted by any name?,
even drugs in meat, they are the same,
the FDA has America strung out,
on drugs and beef, no doubt,
so if you think that what I say is a bunch of crock,
tell yourself you’re gonna try and stop eatin’ meat,
and you’ll see you can’t compete,
it’s the number one drug on the street, not crack,
‘cause that was made for just blacks,
but brown beef, for all American teeth,
life brings life and death brings death,
keep on eatin’ the dead and what’s left?
Absolute disease and negative,
Read the book, How to Eat to Live,
By Elijah Mohammad, it’s a brown paper back,
For anybody, either white or black,
See how many cows must be pumped up fatter?
How many rats gotta fall in the batter?
How many chickens that eat shit you eat?
How much high blood pressure you get from pig feet,
See you’ll consume, the FDA could care less,
They’ll sell you donkey meat and say it’s FRESH
For 1990, you suckers !

Well I'm not sure how many of you are into Drum-n-Bass but here is my most recent DnB mix, "Recluse".

Listen and/or Download (I recommend download) at:

Recluse mixed by Risen 04-2006 192k stereo, approx 52 mins long.

If you like it you can find other mixes by myself + associates, by clicking the big "n" logo.

Send any critisizm to dev/null ;-)

No, for real, its good.  Lots of sweet tracks there.  Enjoy.

Ok I didn't want to double-post but just realized some funny things with some of these songs.  For instance the lyrics to the 10th song, "Sleepless":

i'm sleepless
you've got me wide awake
i'm dreamless
my soul is yours to take
i'm haunted
when i look in your eyes
i want this
and i wont be denied

^^ Does this sound like an abductee syndrome or what? LOL ;-)

Oh hell. It's 71Mb. And that d-load button prevents my d-load manager.  *sigh*

That must be one hell of a mix thou!

I will download tonight. Because that one will take me, you know, about five hours.

Tool's new song "Vicarious"  from the new album titled "10,000 days"that comes out may 2nd .

Lyrics :am a monster

Frown out your one face

But with the other

Stare like a junkie

Into the TV

Stare like a zombie

While the mother holds her child

Watches him die

Hands to the sky crying,

"Why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance

Vicariously I live while the whole world dies

You all need it to don't lie...

Why can't we just admit it?

Why can't we just admit it?

We won't give pause until the blood is flowing

Neither the brave nor bold

Are right as the story's told

We won't give pause until the blood is flowing

I need to watch things die... from a good safe distance

Vicariously I live while the whole world dies

You all feel the same, so...

Why can't we just admit it?

Blood like rain falling down

Drawn by the brave and proud

Part vampire

Part warrior

Carnivore and warrior

Still have the transmitter

Sink to the death rattle

La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie (x4)

Credulous at best

Your desire to believe in

Angels in the hearts of men

But pull your head on out

Your head, please, and give a listen

Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile, so impersonal

Devour to survive... so it is, so it's always been

We all feed on tragedy

It's like blood to a vampire

Re: The Music Thread

crazy video, pieceofnothing ... very graphic ...

that's the 1st thing from this thread that i've looked at - and all this time i've been sharing stuff i listen to, without checking out what other people are putting up ...

interesting how the video uses images ... we all hold different associations with those images, although some (if not most), especially for people in a forum like this, would have similar associations ...

but still - the way images, symbols - the impact and affect they have - the whole deal with how memory works - it's amazing, and maybe important to understand ...

that video makes me think about our problem as a species - we all share the same problems - in different faces, maybe ... but our problems are the same, essentially - when we look into them deeply - they all stem from inside ... that's my thought/feeling on it ... and so our problems as a whole, have to be solved by each of us individually - of course it's complicated (and maybe simple at the same time) - but methink it takes facing life completely.

Re: The Music Thread

Great song.  I think he also has many valid points in his lyrics.

THAT'S my kind of story
It's no fun 'til someone dies

As a society, we keep watching the "news" showing violence, the moives about "war", lies, deceit, gore... and thats how we get off.  It's mostly in the form of entertainment!  Right there in front of us, and we say "Ohhh, thats too bad" and just go about our lives.  Guns are all over the place in our society, movies, video games, "water guns", toy guns etc.  And.. we don't say anything about it, we just sit and watch thinking "What can I do?"

Last night at work this song came on the radio, and we started discussing Tool.  And I asked what my co-workers thought about their lyrics, and they said that they don't really "listen" to them.. or "they don't remember".

Then someone said "People just DON'T CARE!" saying it like he was defending something.  So I asked "Why?".  And they responded "Because it's easier to follow the pack"

I don't know why I am still amazed. LoL

Could he be talking about our Shadow Selves? (Vampires/Ego)?

This CD is amazing BTW, very inspirational just like Lateralus.

Very well said.  What are we going to do?  Keep repeating the same pattens? Choose ignorance? Or the infinite other possibilties?
And to elaborate, I think that its really easy (silence) and we make it difficult (our ego's).

YAAAAAAAAAAA I was wondering when this would happen. I was at SpiderHouse yesterday and my new bassist friend [synchronicity] said he had it in his truck when I asked him if he was anticipating it.

This Tool video REALLY breaks the 'tradition' of them having that same theme from Aenima, Parabola, Sober, etc. I was really suprised that they came full on with all the political 'eye-openers'. I always felt that was one of the major things which was an attractive quality of the band was the mystery and uncertainty of their whole 'weird' image [??] Guess they may have decided to move on from that aspect of themselves . . possibly . . ?

Thanks for posting this!! The song reminded me of Lateralus, specifically The Grudge.

Re: The Music Thread

Yeah that Tool vid is cool. It's definitely a fan vid and not official tho.

Here's one I just got a link for a couple minutes ago, catchy, I like it:

http://dojo.fi/~rancid/loituma__.swf

I managed to track down what the song is now...

Artist: Loituma
Album: Things of Beauty
Song: Leva's Polka
~1998

"Loituma is a young quartet who combine the Finnish vocal tradition with the exquisite sounds of the kantele (Finnish harp). At ease with four-part unaccompanied vocals as well as four-part kantele instrumentals, Loituma were selected Band of the Year at the 1997 Kaustinen Folkmusic Festival. "

and here's a link to the full song I found:

Yea, it was just a fan that put together some pictures. He did a good job though.

Re: The Music Thread

I have been having some weird syncrhonities with tool.  A couple of months ago I started listening to Aenima, and I started noticing all these hidden meanings and all this other stuff.  I started reading into Bill Hicks, a la "third eye".  When I began to notice all of these deep meanigs I got this really overwhelming feeling.  Anyway I then thought that if Aenima had all this stuff, maybe Lateralus had some really deep things as well that I had overlooked.  I pulled up the Lateralus album lyrics and as I was reading the hair stood up on the back of my neck.  I understood exactly what all of these previously obscure and cryptic lyrics meant.  I now believe that tool was a major factor in my awakening.

So at this point the music of tool began a resurgence into  my life as I listen to Lateralus almost daily.  For instance in the song "The Patient"  the lyric "must keep reminding myself of this"  has been my mantra for quite some time.  I use it every time I encounter some major negativity in my life and begin to start drowing once again in the illusion.  The line is used by Maynard with the same meaning,  in the song he speaks how living an awakened life is very tough, and he "certainly could have walked away" (Suicide, I believe)  but he "must keep reminding himself why he is here, to awaken others.  There is also the idea that he chose to be here right now and he must trust that his higher self made the right decision and his higher self did not come here to quit.

Back to my synch; I have randomly reimersed myself in tool after 5 years of stagnation, and all the sudden, a new album is coming out.  I found out the day they anounced it, and the day they anounced the tour because I have been doing a lot of reading on tool to find out if there are any others who understand what Maynard is talking about.  I definately feel there is some sort of synchronity in my resurgence in intrest in tool and the release of there new album.

Lastly I am totaly bummed out today because I went to buy tickets to the tool show at 11:00 this morning, having no clue that there are so many people in KC that love tool.  I show up at ticketmaster at 10:40, and there is a huge line.  As the tickets go on sale the girl in front of me tells me that the show is supposed to sell out in 7 minutes!  I was like WTF!!!  How the heck did this sneak up on me, and where the heck did all these die hard tool fans come from.  So 14 minutes into the sale and before the line has moved 14 ft the tickets are sold out.  I checked e-bay, tickets are already over 200 dollars a pop.  I checked other venues, all of them are sold out already.  I feel like I got totally hosed on this one.

I'm going to post a detailed discussion on this in "walking the walk" Section so it doesn't get drowned out really quickly.

"...But Nothing is Lost:" "Nothing lasts... nothing lasts. Everything is changing into something else. Nothing's wrong. Nothing is wrong. Everything is on track. William Blake said nothing is lost and I believe that we all move on." - Terrence McKenna - Shpongle - But Nothing Is Lost

Re: The Music Thread

Hey Capitan.  I feel what you're saying!!! It's soo amazing because I first came into contact with Lateralus about 2-3 months ago, and then heard about them at work.. and had another intresting synchronosity with them.

I am very curious as to why so many people like Tool when they don't even understand what they guy is saying! (see post above).  Anywho.. Lateralus has been the most inspirational CD of my life to date, and the new one is also amazing!  And if you read into it a little more, Maynard hints as himself being an "angle".  Seriously.. he knows what he is talking about.

I would love to discuss your thoughts on their songs.  Every song in Lateralus is symbolic... hence the quotation in Xenopope's signature.

I think the song "The Grudge" outlines ours Ego's will to dominate everything.. which enevitably leads nowhere "Clutch it like a cornerstone. Otherwise it all comes down."

I don't even know where to start really... I remember when Schism came out in the mainstream, and everyone was like "wow", but until 3-4 weeks ago, I never knew how symbolic his message is.

There is this one song on the new Album called "Right in Two" - maybe symbolizing duality that we experience.

tool wrote:

Right In Two - Tool
Angels on the sideline,
Puzzled and amused.
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused.

Don't these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly old monkeys,
Where there's one you're bound to divide it
Right in two

Angels on the sideline,
Baffled and confused.
Father blessed them all with reason.
And this is what they choose.
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
Over pieces of the ground.

Silly monkeys given thumbs,
They forge a blade,
And where there's one
they're bound to divide it,
Right in two.
Right in two.

Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
Over pieces of the ground.
Silly monkeys give them thumbs,
They make a club
And beat their brother..down.
How they survive so misguided is a mystery.
Repugnant dismal creature who would squander
The ability to live, to die, and have a conscience
Brothers live inside here

Cut it all right in two (x4)

Fight over the clouds, over wind, over sky
Fight over life, over blood, over prayer, overhead and light
Fight over love, over sun, over another
Fight...

Angels on the sideline again
Been so long with patience and reason
Angels on the sideline again
Wondering when this tug of war will end

Cut it all right in two (x3)
Right in two

Right in two...

He makes the world state look ridiculus.. and thats because it is.

This is an internet station called Progressive Soundscapes
Usually on the weekend they play some very good ambient music which has become a style I enjoy more these days.
Winamp works well for this and you really need a broadband connection.
